The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1193

Chapter 1193
Davey had definitely sensed something present, yet it had vanished without a trace.
Without a word, he looked down at the spot where it had appeared, then slowly placed a hand on the ground and drew out his spirit mana.
Following his action, the most recent memories imprinted on the earth began to surface.
However, nothing came up.
“Don’t tell me I’m seeing things?”
Even though he knew that wasn’t possible, thanks to his perfect memory, it was still a strange situation.
It definitely seemed related.
None of the heroes of the Hall knew much about it—they had only heard about its existence. Since Goddess Freyja remained silent, Davey had no choice but to track down the remaining witness.

Ah,
there’s one.”
Recalling a certain someone, Davey sliced space open without hesitation. Beyond the gently sliced space, something gradually appeared.
“So, warp magic wasn’t enough for you,
eh?
You’re just tearing through dimensions now?”
“It’s more convenient this way.”
After gaining divinity, he had gotten even more accustomed to moving between dimensions regularly.
The one Davey went to see was none other than the World Tree Al.
As always, she was in her own space, petting animals and tending to the Divine Tree's Land. She seemed a little intrigued by his visit.
“So, what brings you all the way here? Are you here to check on those troublemakers living on the outskirts?”
The troublemakers on the outskirts. He knew exactly who she was referring to, as he knew the Princess of the Abyss Verdandi, her adopted son, and beings like Isildi and Skuld stayed there.
Given that she was referring to them as ‘troublemakers,’ he figured they must’ve been causing problems nonstop.
“Do you happen to know anything about rainbow slimes?”
The curiosity in her previously calm eyes deepened. “
Ohh.
That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time. Yeah, rainbow slime,
huh...

She thought for a moment, then nodded. “Of course I do. They say it brings good luck for a whole year to those who see it, right?”
“So you’ve never seen one yourself?”
She casually dropped a bombshell. “No, I have.”
“You’ve actually seen one?”
“Technically, it was quite a while ago. Just once—one of the children of the land encountered a dazzling, colored slime in the forest.”
She let out a bittersweet smile as she reminisced about an old memory.
“At first, the child thought it was just a normal slime. As you know, slimes are generally divided into those that are harmful and those that aren’t. Since most slimes around the Divine Tree's Land pose no threat, the child was going to just ignore it. Alas, the colors were too strange. It looked like it was shimmering with all sorts of iridescent hues.”
Even for the World Tree herself, seeing a rainbow slime wasn’t commonplace.
“So, what happened next?”
That was the important part. While it was clear that the thing brought good luck, it didn’t make sense for it to come without a price.
If there was already a precedent, Davey needed to check.
“You ask what happened? Just like the legend says, the kid had unusually good luck for a whole year. Sure, there were some misfortunes here and there, yet overall, that child had a very lucky year.”
Surprisingly, that was the end of the story she shared.
“That’s it? But as you know...”
“I know what you’re trying to ask. How could a mere creature grant luck so closely tied to the flow of the world? That’s what you want to know, right?”
“Yes.”
She shrugged and reached behind her. Then, one of the garden branches quietly extended and offered her an apple.
Plop!
“Have one.”
“I’m good.”
She shrugged again. “Come on, eat it. It’s been a while since you visited. If I don’t offer you anything, it’ll hurt my pride.”
Unlike the Divine Tree's Land the former World Tree took care of, the current Divine Tree's Land was quite hospitable.
Of course, it made sense. Despite the occasional grumbling, the current World Tree was in an alliance with Davey.
He technically held their diplomatic rights as a representative, though that didn’t matter much to the elves since they avoided unnecessary contact with outsiders anyway.
“Well, if you insist.” A crisp texture and refreshing flavor spread through his mouth.
“Want me to get to the point?”
“That’d be nice.”
She crossed her arms with a firm expression. “Nothing happened.”
“Excuse me?”
“Really, absolutely nothing happened. At first, I thought the same as you, but... well.” She shrugged again and gave a dry chuckle. “Seriously, nothing happened. That’s it.”
“Is that even possible? You expect me to believe that such a creature can exist?”
“The rainbow slime brings luck to its target; that's just how it is. I also wondered back then where the misfortune that person originally carried went. I've thought about that a lot...”
The World Tree Al trailed off and fell silent.
“You know when people get the most pissed off? It’s when someone stops talking mid-sentence.” He smiled while flaring up black flames in one hand.
She sighed in response. “There wasn’t anything I could find.”
“Sorry?”
“There really wasn’t any problem. Your concern is valid, but there are still things in this world even I can’t understand.
Tsk, tsk.
What’s a being with divinity and even the authority of the Great God doing, worrying this much?”
“Then do you know anything about a black slime that has yellow eyes?”
“A dark slime?”
“No, it’s a little different from that.”
She shook her head. “That’s the first I’ve heard of it.”
She fell silent, as if she had nothing more to say.
From the start, Davey had been suspicious, and she’d been able to help with her firsthand knowledge of a rainbow slime.
“But judging by what you’re saying... you saw a rainbow slime, didn’t you? So? Who saw it?”
He didn't know how to respond.
“You didn’t see it yourself. Knowing your personality, if you had, you would’ve caught it.” Her eyes narrowed lazily. “So, who was it?”
“Evangeline.”

Huh.
That child... So? What about it?”
“I don’t know. It just suddenly appeared right next to Evangeline one day, and hasn’t left her side since. And it’s not just one, there’s seven or eight of them...”
She nodded with a serious expression, then quietly said to Davey, “This is important.”
“What is?”
The air around them seemed to turn cold with tension.
“Give me one. I want to taste that luck too.”
“You’ve gotta be kidding. They aren't free. How much are you willing to pay?”
“You little! Just hand one over already. Why are you being so stingy?”
“What, you think I’m running a charity here?”
* * *
In the end, it became certain that his worries were nothing more than baseless fears. Even so, there was just one thing that continued to nag at him in a strange way.
‘What exactly was that black thing I saw back then?’
Meanwhile, completely oblivious or perhaps not caring about her father’s concerns, Evangeline was having the time of her life.
“Okay, let’s go!” Moderation shouted with absolute confidence in his victory. “Full house! You see that? Not even a big deal!
Hahahaha!

Having taken quite a few hits from Evangeline already, he gloatingly put his hands up to celebrate a fiery round of poker.
Moderation was not only a senior streamer to Evangeline, but also the only one who kept in regular contact with her. He had essentially scouted her, recognizing her potential and helping her gain traction.
Perhaps that was why, unlike her passive attitude in other collab streams, Evangeline bantered playfully with Moderation despite the age gap. They got along surprisingly well.
As Moderation smirked in triumph, her lips curled up into a slow smile. “Sorry. Looks like I’ve got the higher full house.”
“This is so rigged!!” Shock spread across his face on the stream. “Hey! How could you cheat like that?!”
[LOL Moderation loses again]
[All-in with shit cards again? LOLS]
[LMAO]
[Lmao]
Their viewers shared a similar sense of humor. It made sense, given that many of his viewers had migrated over to hers in the first place.
From his perspective, he’d basically had some of his viewers stolen. Still, thanks to Evangeline’s growing international popularity, his viewer count had also been climbing steadily every day.
Moderation slammed his keyboard in frustration. His full house was in hearts, while Evangeline’s full house was also hearts, just with higher numbers.
“How is this even possible?! You better explain what kind of shady stuff you pulled off!”
Ignoring his frustrated wails, the computer calmly transferred his chips over to Evangeline.

Hmph.
Who are you blaming for your bad luck?”
“You’re one to talk! You blew your allowance on a gacha pull and got nothing just a few weeks ago!”
“Are you going to shush it, or shall there be no tip money for you?”

Oh,
my bad, Your Highness.” He crumbled instantly under the weight of capitalism.
He glared at her with a face full of barely contained irritation. He saw an absurdly beautiful girl with a colorful slime perched on her shoulder.
He had visited her lair before, so he’d heard about the kind of luck those rainbow slimes supposedly brought.
At first, he just thought it was a legend, like a fun sign of good fortune. He never imagined it’d make her so blatantly lucky.
‘There we go!’
Park Seung-Hyun pushed all distracting thoughts aside and sharpened his focus. He couldn’t even remember how many times in a row he had lost against the little brat he was facing.
To Moderation, who prided himself on unmatched luck, the repeated losses were the ultimate humiliation.
That’s why he had to win the round.
‘Whoever goes last wins. Time to push for an all-in.’
He glanced briefly at Evangeline’s expression.
Since he hadn’t revealed his hand yet, there was no risk of the snitches in the chat leaking it to her.
“Half!” he called out with determination.
Evangeline matched it without hesitation. “I’ll call and raise!”
He figured she must’ve been riding the high of her win streak, and had foolishly kept going forward with the bet.
After confirming both his and her remaining chips, Moderation saw the perfect moment to force an all-in.

Aw
man, guess we’re all in now. Don’t chicken out.”

Ha!
My butt! I never back down.”
Moderation knew she was more prideful than she let on. As such, he provoked her just right, slowly baiting her into shoving all her chips into the pot.
With significantly more starting capital, Moderation had more than enough to push her into an all-in.
[What’s with the tension here?]
[Moderation must be holding something huge.]
The viewers were already betting their points on who would win.
The tension peaked when both of them pushed everything into the pot.
Moderation revealed his hand first.
“Here! Check this out!”
[Wow.]
[How lucky is this guy?]
[Say what you want, his luck is insane.]
[Unless boss has a royal flush, there’s no way she wins...]
Everyone fell silent as they looked at what he had.
It was a royal straight flush. The kind of hand that only showed up once in a blue moon. The almost unbeatable hand.
Moderation grinned with confidence and taunted Evangeline. But she said nothing and quietly laid down her cards.

Hehe.

She laid down her cards.
“...”
[???]
[??? What the hell ???]
[For real?]
[No way that actually came out.]
Stunned speechless, Moderation slumped back in his chair, dazed.
‘Sure, she could get luckier... but this?’
* * *
At the same time, in Evangeline’s lair, something round and black began bouncing around the inside of the cave.
It was the same thing Davey had seen before.
While they’d said there was no real problem, the black creature bounced through the cave like it owned the place, rowdy and hyperactive like an innocent child.
After it roamed around for a while, it made its way to the area where the rainbow slime eggs were gathered. Without hesitation, it slipped into the water.
Then, it swallowed one of the eggs whole.
A moment later, it spat it back out. Unlike the others, the regurgitated egg began to squirm and twitch, moving ever so slightly.
