The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1200

Chapter 1200
“I’m not jumping to any conclusions!”
Just as Davey snapped back at Goddess Freyja, a young man with a face full of suspicion strode over, adjusting his hat and glaring sharply.
“Who the hell are you people?”
His crisp military uniform and disciplined movements made it obvious that he was a soldier. He held a magic staff in one hand with a whip in the other, a sword even hung at his waist. It was clear what kind of work he did there.
“So then, why did you summon me here, of all places?” Davey asked her, ignoring the man.
Goddess Freyja lifted her tablet and threw out a completely unrelated phrase.
[
Ahhh,
scary. So scary.]
Snap!!!
Just then, a whip cracked at his feet.
“State your affiliation. Who are you people?!”
The officer’s sharp command drew everyone’s eyes at once.
“Where the hell are you looking?! If you don’t finish today’s quota, there’s no dinner!”
It was as if they were used to this. The people, who had been watching the interaction with lifeless eyes, quickly returned to their tasks.
Once he confirmed no one else was watching, the soldier pointed his staff at Davey. “Judging by your clothes, you don’t look like a slave. Follow me. If you resist, I can’t guarantee your safety.”
Davey responded by simply pointing a finger behind the man. The soldier naively turned his head in that direction.
Wham!!
Without hesitation, Davey smacked the back of his neck and knocked him out cold.
“What a damn hassle...”
With no more reason to keep playing along with her antics, Davey prepared to rip open space again. He had already confirmed the fixed coordinates the others had traveled to, so it was time to open the portal and regroup with them. After all, he felt uneasy leaving Perserque and Reina alone.
Of course, knocking out a soldier wasn’t without consequences. Eyes started locking onto him all at once, and it wasn't long before a strange mana wavelength began to spread through the air.

Hm.
Perhaps it’s some sort of alarm system?”
There was no audible sound, but a unique mana wave was clearly spreading.
It was an interesting kind of alarm, one that only the designated recipients could typically perceive.
It was clearly designed to prevent any chance for enemies to prepare. Davey couldn’t help but marvel at how impressive it was in its own way.
At the same time, he sensed multiple presences drawing closer. He sighed, picked up Goddess Freyja, and tore the empty air.
[You’re just gonna leave like this?]
“Want me to wreck this whole place or something instead?”
‘Not that I’d mind.’
Goddess Freyja hesitated, then tapped her tablet.
[Wanna head north from here?]
While he wasn’t sure what she was trying to show him, if it didn’t end up impressing him, he planned on drawing on her face in place of Nightmare.
However, before they could make a move, numerous people had already gathered to capture him.
“Don’t move! Resist and you die!”
The slaves panicked and scattered, the area soon filled with soldiers who’d come to seize him.
All of them wore stiff military uniforms. They looked ready to draw their swords and cast spells at any moment.
Normally, escape would be impossible once his path had been blocked.
“State your affiliation! Where are you from? Are you with the resistance?”
‘The resistance?’
Something about that term gave him deja vu, but that wasn’t his concern.
“Hey,” he began.
One of the soldiers flinched in response.
“Which way’s north from here?”
“What kind of nonsense are you spewing?!”
“Yeah, didn’t think you’d answer easily.”
As the tension in the air grew thicker, Davey casually stretched to warm up. Then Goddess Freyja held up her tablet.
[I sent back the child of the Abyss who’s carrying your child.]
“Perserque? Where to?”
[Home. The travel would be too much for a child carrying a blessing.]
Perserque was pregnant. She had insisted on coming with him, and Davey had figured keeping her nearby would keep her safe.
However, if the dimensional travel would pose a burden to both her and the child, he figured it was probably for the best.
Sling!!
Accompanied by the sound of metal slicing through the air, someone approached him fast, demonstrating the intent to take him down before he could react.
Their movements were sharp and precise; they were not the kind of movements someone who relied on their fancy gear could make.
In terms of sheer speed, they were close to a supreme expert. It seemed they were confident in their ability, daring to charge straight in.

Aggressive from the start, huh?

Normally, one would try to figure out who their opponent was before attempting to subdue them.
However, their violent behavior was understandable, as he had already taken down one of their own. The foe was fully focused on subduing Davey with their first strike.
If Davey dodged, they’d go for Goddess Freyja. If he didn’t, they’d land a clean hit. They couldn't lose.
The attacker was already too close for Davey to fully evade. Convinced of victory, the man reached out to grab him.
Wham!!!
A heavy impact echoed through the air. Contrary to everyone's expectations, the one who collapsed on the ground wasn’t Davey and was instead the powerful man who had charged him.

Guh?!

The man, unable to understand why he’d fallen, lost consciousness the instant his head hid the ground. His collapse triggered the others, making them extend their wands all at once.
They were all wielding the same type of mass-produced magic wands, designed for ranged casting.
‘As long as the spell structure is uniform...’
[Dispel]
Crash!!!
Then there was nothing he couldn’t break.
‘Even the charcoal magic that the First Lich Nyx used is probably more complex than the thirty low-grade spells y’all are trying to cast simultaneously right now.’
“W-What?!”
“Why isn’t it working?!”
Even the cold, machine-like soldiers couldn’t help but panic facing the surreal scene.
They seemed to realize that their magic had failed because of Davey. Confusion spread across their faces.
“Be careful! He might be using unknown equipment!”
“Watch out! This guy isn’t just a regular intruder!”
“Send a to His Majesty! Hurry!”
As they barked at each other, Davey picked up on something he couldn’t ignore.
‘His Majesty? Is the emperor actually here?’
“Take them down!!!”
“The man’s too dangerous! Go for the woman!”
It was underhanded, sure, but it was also a realistic strategy. They tossed aside personal pride to make the best choice and secure victory.
‘Cold-blooded... and efficient.’
They charged toward Goddess Freyja. However, there was one thing they didn’t know.
“If you’re screwing around with me again this time, I’m done with you.”
His warning made the Goddess pout and stick her lips out in silence.
At the same time, the men who had charged toward her suddenly froze in place.
“W-What the...?!”
One by one, they dropped to their knees and began to cry.
It was as if they had come face-to-face with a divine being. They couldn’t even stand properly, their expressions completely dazed and overwhelmed. It was clear that they were unable to comprehend what was happening.
Of course they couldn’t. Just the slightest release of divine power was far beyond what any regular creature could handle.
Normally, Goddess Freyja never released that kind of aura. Her needless compassion had kept that part of her hidden—that is, until that moment.
“D-Dammit! That woman’s not normal!! Call for backup!”
“Wait!”
Davey watched the ones scrambling to activate their communication artifacts. He then came to the conclusion that no matter what Goddess Freyja had intended to happen, nothing would really change.
He twisted his hands, pulling shapeless mana into his palms by force.
[5th Circle Spell]
[Earthquake]
Ruuuumble!!!
A massive quake surged through the entire area.

Gaaahhh?!

Ahhh!

The soldiers struggled to stay upright, desperately trying to maintain their balance. Alas, Earthquake wasn’t just a spell used to bring down buildings or siege engines. Its versatility stretched far beyond that.
Snap!!
Craaaack!!
With a flick of his finger, Davey designated an additional epicenter for the quake, and the ground split open violently. The soldiers, unable to react in time, were swallowed into the fissures and completely immobilized in an instant.
Davey calmly approached them.
Reina was no longer with him, yet regardless of where that place was, if things could be cleaned up quickly, it was best to do so. His date with Perserque had gone out the window, but he figured he could take her on another visit to the Heavenly Central Plains later.
“I just heard something interesting.”
Goddess Freyja seemed displeased at the thought of Davey facing the emperor directly, but he had no intention of continuing to move at her will.

Guh?!

Davey crouched in front of the man, struggling to free himself from the cracked ground, and smiled faintly. He then cleared the smile from his face in an instant.
“The Emperor. He’s here right now?”
* * *
“Your Majesty, please rest easy.” A massive man bowed his head, his very presence radiating overwhelming power, then turned and exited the room.
The young man left behind sighed, then activated his necklace.
Whummm!!
A surge of mana swiftly gathered around him, and a unique energy shimmered in the air. The youthful figure aged rapidly until what remained was a frail, elderly man.
He was the current emperor of the Nacha Empire, Abzorba Delemanco Prasias Nacha. That was the name of the reigning sovereign.
“My energy’s running low. I need to find it before it’s too late...” he muttered to himself as he stared down at the necklace that was nearly drained of power.
It was that very artifact which preserved his youthful appearance. It was an object essential not only for his longevity, but also for maintaining his godlike image within the empire.
The Emperor Who Never Aged.
The One Blessed by the Divine Beast.
The man who had transformed the small kingdom of Nacha into a dimension-spanning superpower.
All of those titles belonged to him.
In the past, it had been possible to maintain his image. Unfortunately, ever since the divine beast had vanished, he was no longer able to maintain his youth.
To make matters worse, those rainbow slime byproducts of the divine beast's blessing had begun disappearing one by one, causing frequent and serious incidents throughout the empire.
“And what’s going on with that newly discovered dimension? Why is there still no word?” he mumbled, pouring wine into a glass with a trembling hand as he looked out the window.
It was still broad daylight.
The place, regardless of what it may have been in the past, currently served as a resource extraction site. They mined rare minerals there, exploiting the citizens of the dimensions they had conquered for labor.
With those resources and the divine beast, he believed he could live forever. Once that were possible, his deepest ambition could be realized.
Just as that thought passed through his mind, something flickered across the sky outside his window.
At first, one. Then two.
White, flaming rings shaped like donuts floated silently in the sky. They were too calm, motionless for some reason.
“What is that?”
As he mumbled to himself, preparing to summon someone to investigate, a voice that shouldn’t have been there rang out, “You curious about those?”
Startled, the emperor turned his head around.
No one was supposed to see him in his elderly form, except for his personal guards. However, the voice didn’t belong to any of them.
“A living disaster, I’d call them. If one of those falls, the entire area will go up in flames.”
The emperor saw a young man sitting casually with legs crossed, spinning a wine glass in his fingers.
He had no clue when he had entered, or even who he was.
Before the emperor could speak, the young man smirked. “Let’s begin negotiations.”
He then flashed a cold grin.
“Don’t worry. Even if you go along with everything, there’s still going to be blood.”
