The Rules of Blood-Volume Two ; Chapter 88 (304) - Velakia, The Secret Within

“So you see, Your Highness,” the Daughter placed a hand on Velakia’s shoulder, “Your future fiancé cares deeply about you. For what better gift to receive than a child?”
If Velakia was trying to hold back her tears before, now she could do it no longer.
“Daughter, can I… can I ask a favor?” Velakia spoke through her silent cries.
“Certainly,” the Daughter nodded.
“Could you not mention this to Blanc?” Velakia muttered.
“Of course,” she nodded once, “Is there a reason why you wish to hide this from him?”
“Please,” Velakia sniffed, her different colored eyes slightly red from the tears.
“As you wish, Your Highness,” the Daughter bowed lightly, “I will be returning to Lord Blanc and will leave you to your own thoughts. But do not fret, I will tell him you wish to finish the preparations for departure.”
“Th-thank you,” Velakia muttered just before the Daughter opened the door.
“No, Your Highness,” the Daughter replied, her back still to the princess, “We thank you.”
“In that case, I have another favor to ask of you,” Velakia muttered.
And after hearing her request, the Daughter left the room, a small, hidden smile on her emotionless face.

“What did the witch tell you, princess?” Tahini rushed to her side once the Daughter left.
But Velakia had her palms covering her face, trying to make as little sound as possible as she cried.
For she knew Blanc could hear her if she were to cry loudly.
“Prin- Velakia…” Tahreni muttered, not sure what just happened or if she should comfort her friend or not.
But Velakia did not reply; she remained silent.
She was overjoyed. She was terrified. She wanted to be a mother. But she feared she wasn’t ready at the same time.
She was in love. Yet wished she wasn’t. Yet she wished she were all the same.
She needed to leave. But now, wanted to stay. Yet knew she couldn’t.
For she knew Blanc would not come to live in Iskahul. No… she will return to Iskahul alone.
She couldn’t do that to him or his wives.
Nor wish him all the problems that would follow once her parents learned that she was pregnant. This secret would be hers, and hers alone.
But at least, she had to tell her best friend about it.
“It seems…” Velakia sniffed.
“Velakia?” Tahreni muttered, grabbing her hand.
“It seems I am pregnant,” Velakia said with a wide grin on her face as tears ran down her cheeks.
That sentence, that face, that smile stretched like an eternity to Tahreni as her eyes grew wider by the second.
“Fuck,” Tahreni covered her mouth.
“My dear,” said Blanc as he saw the two of them approach the common room, “All rea- did you cry?”
“No, dear,” Velakia smiled, “I just want to get out of this place as soon as possible.”
Blanc chucked, “On that, I think we all agree.”
Inside the common room, Blanc, Sera, Lendros, and the Daughter stood waiting, backpacks near most of them as they waited.
Sera looked at Velakia intently, a warm smile on her face as she watched her.
Velakia noticed that, but only smiled back without asking anything, just in case Sera had heard something earlier.
She would have to find out more later.
“Still, are you two ready as well?” Blanc asked, “It would be best if we left as soon as possible.”
“We are ready to leave anytime,” Velakia nodded, “Just have to grab the bags.”
“Perfect,” Blanc clapped his hand as he got to his feet, smiling, “I think it is time to go then. The faster we leave, the faster we can get you three on the boat.”

“Yeah…” Velakia muttered, turning to grab her backpack, visibly displeased by his words.
Sera sighed, scratching at her forehead, “That’s my brother, I guess.”
“What?” Blanc frowned, looking her way.
But Sera shook her head, “Nothing, little brother, you just remind me of Valar sometimes.”
“Did I say something I shouldn’t?” Blanc muttered, turning towards the Daughter.
“Yes, Lord Blanc,” the Daughter nodded.
“What exactly?” Blanc requested to know.
But the Daughter began walking towards the door that would take them towards the exit, “We are friends, the Sanguinarch Order and you, Lord Blanc, but we cannot help you with this one.”
“Isn’t this just wonderful?” Blanc sighed.
Only to have Lendros scoff as he passed him, walking towards the door while shaking his head.
“You bastard,” Blanc hissed, “You don’t even understand the damn language. Why the fuck are you scoffing at me?”
But Lendros ignored him, walking out the door.
It was a funny sight for Velakia, who hid behind the corner of the hallway, watching as if she were a child.
It helped her to some extent to think things through.
She couldn’t be mad at Blanc, after all, how could he know why that annoyed her? How could he know what grew inside of her? Or how much joy did that bring her?
So much joy, she didn’t even notice Sera seeing her.
But when she did, she tried to back down, pretend nothing happened.
But Sera confirmed all her worries soon after.
“Velakia,” Sera said, once Blanc left the common room as well, “It was by mistake that I heard. Will you tell Blanc?”
Velakia sighed, stepping back into the common room, “No, or at least not yet.”
“What are you afraid of?” Sera asked, approaching her, “You are carrying my little brother’s child, and that makes you not only Blood of mine, but also my sister. I will not judge whatever reason you may have, but you can talk to me if you want to, and I promise I will not tell Blanc about it.”
“Would you hide things from him?” Velakia asked, surprised.
“Not all of Blood Denegis is like Blanc is, Velakia,” Sera smiled, her mental state getting better now that the engagement got nullified, “Most of us are not as sincere, or open-mouthed as he is.”
“Then perhaps I will tell you more soon,” Velakia nodded, “Now it would be time to go.”
“Let us be rid of this place,” Sera smiled as she tightened the backpack around her.
And with a nod, Velakia, Tahreni, and Sera walked out the door, catching up with the rest.
A maid led them, past the Great Hall and countless rooms, until they were outside, in front of the iron gates of the estate.
Blanc exhaled, relieved as he saw the open, smoke-filled sky.
“These few days were nerve-wracking,” he muttered.
“More than months with me?” Velakia asked, in a better mood now.
Blanc thought for a while, which resulted in him being slapped by both Velakia and Sera.
“I’m joking,” Blanc chuckled, defending himself, “The months it took us to get here, as well as the result of it all, were well worth it.”
“Is that the truth?” Velakia demanded an answer.
“Of course it is,” Blanc replied defensively, waiting for the gates to finish opening.
“You don’t sound convincing, little brother,” Sera sighed, “I pity both Velakia and your wives.”
“Hey now,” Blanc warned, “Let me tell you, I am a great husband.”
“Oh, I doubt that,” Velakia laughed at the words Blanc proudly declared as if ignoring who he woke up next to naked in the morning.
Blanc clicked his tongue, realizing the gap between his beliefs and real life.
“In my head, I truly believe that,” Blanc defended himself.
“Dreams are dreams for a reason,” Sera countered.
“I know a bear who likes to sleep,” Blanc chuckled, using the opportunity to change the subject, “I wonder how she is?”
“That Allegra you mentioned,” Velakia narrowed his eyes, “Does she…”
“She told me once I was handsome,” Blanc replied, smiling, “But Celine was playing with her mind, so I doubt she remembers it.”
“Blanc, that’s the type of Greed the Vita warns about,” Sera muttered, “Are three not enough for you?”
“Huh? Where did that come from?” Blanc frowned, turning to face his sister, “I haven’t even thought about- ow- ow.”
Velakia grabbed Blanc’s hair from the back, pulling him backwards towards her.
“I will kill you, you know?” Velakia whispered in his ear, “I was getting used to the idea of Celine and Miyanna, but another one?”
“When in Vita’s name have I ever… never mind,” Blanc gave up. “But I have good news, my dear, you would get along wonderfully with Miyanna.”
Velakia let go of his hair, “Look at me.”
Blanc turned slowly, his tall figure slightly towering over her, “What?”
“If another one just appears out of nowhere, you better tell me first, understood?” Velakia grabbed his tunic. “Do not do to me what I did to your wives.”
“Selfish,” Blanc grinned, grabbing her chin, “Will a letter suffice?”
“Bastard…” Velakia grinned, pulling him into a kiss.
“...”
“Ahem,” Sera pretended to cough, making the two look around them.
Seeing Tahreni, Lendros, and the Daughter staring at them, the iron gates had now been completely opened for a minute.
The guards, terrified of the Daughter, looked towards the sky, too afraid to move.
“Let’s go then,” Velakia smiled as he walked off, holding Blanc’s hand.
After two steps, she stopped and turned to see why Blanc was not moving at all, but instead, watched the estate they had just left.
Because she stopped, the others did the same, turning to see what was the reason.
Blanc looked at the upper levels of the building.
Velakia and Sera, and all the rest, matched his view, seeing
who
Blanc was looking at.
On the balcony of one of the rooms of the estate, a young horned man watched the group silently. A grim, hateful expression on his face.
“Lord Aidan,” Blanc nodded, speaking loudly, “I would lie to say it was a pleasure, but all the same, good fortunes in the wars to come.”
But Aidan only drew his sword that dangled on the sight of his left hip, “You will see my face soon enough, Blanc of Blood Denegis. Not my mother’s, not my siblings’, but mine.”
Blanc, not intimidated, drew his sword as well, the barely shining sun reflecting on the steel’s surface as he pointed it toward him.
“If you are so quick to see your father,” Blanc grinned, “I’ll be waiting.”
And with that, he turned his back to Aidan and, together with the rest of his group, left the estate towards the second part of their journey.
