Chapter 478

Chapter 478: Chapter 425: Smashing You with Money
Su Yingluo sat in her wheelchair, somewhat bewildered as she watched Bai Chengxi walking out of the hotel with a girl, yet she was closely monitoring every single move he made. He had invested in the production of so many films, yet he had never been involved in any scandals with any actresses. This fact made her quite relieved and also greatly boosted her confidence because she knew that Bai Chengxi couldn’t live without her.
"Xiao Lan, follow them," Su Yingluo said, her voice trembling slightly. If it weren’t for the constant stream of people here, she would have already leaped out of her wheelchair.
Xiao Lan hurriedly pushed her out of the hotel’s main entrance, and Bai Chengxi and Zhuo Yuqing were just standing by the roadside hailing a taxi.
"Didn’t you drive here?" Zhuo Yuqing curiously turned her head, her big, dark eyes exceptionally bright.
"I did, but someone doesn’t have a driver’s license." Bai Chengxi affectionately ruffled Zhuo Yuqing’s hair, "Silly girl."
Zhuo Yuqing shrank her neck: "Or, should I go get a driver’s license? It seems quite troublesome not being able to drive."
"I’ll arrange a driving school for you tomorrow," Bai Chengxi said with a look of appreciative encouragement as if she were a student he could teach.
"Never mind, I’m afraid Aus City’s traffic would come to a halt if I were to drive," Zhuo Yuqing thought about the complex parts of a car and backed off, "From now on, you shouldn’t drink, just be my driver."
Bai Chengxi lowered his head, frowning pleasantly, "A full-time driver, at your beck and call?"
"I’m just joking, don’t take it seriously," Zhuo Yuqing chuckled, she wouldn’t dare to use the famous Mr. Bai as a driver, that would truly be too much for her.
"Alright, I’ll quit drinking," Bai Chengxi said casually, and Zhuo Yuqing didn’t take it to heart.
Just then, a taxi happened to drive by, and Zhuo Yuqing waved her hands excitedly.
Bai Chengxi took her hand and walked over to open the taxi door. After letting her get in first, he quickly followed, closed the door, and soon the taxi blended into the flow of traffic and disappeared from sight.
Su Yingluo watched all of this unfold, feeling as if someone had suddenly drained all the strength from her body. Had she not been sitting in a wheelchair, she feared that she would faint on the spot.
It was as if the bubbles of all her previous fantasies had been shattered, leaving only the bone-chilling mist of cold water, sweeping over her with boundless despair.
Su Yingluo muttered to herself as if she had lost her soul: "How could this happen, how could this happen."
The fortress she always thought was impregnable, the man she always thought would be utterly devoted to her, the love she always thought she could easily reclaim even after a decade apart, was now crumbling before her very eyes, everything surpassing her expectations.
"Sister Luo, Sister Luo," Xiao Lan called out worriedly to Su Yingluo, who had suddenly turned deathly pale,
"Xiao Lan, find out who that woman is," Su Yingluo thought of the girl she had just seen: innocent, beautiful, vibrant, and appearing to be only around twenty years of age, whereas she was already thirty-three years old, far past the age of youthful tenderness. There’s a saying that all men are visual creatures, no matter their age, they all like women in their twenties.
For the first time, she felt deeply panicked and insecure about her own age.
"Sister Luo, that’s Zhuo Yuqing," Xiao Lan had previously investigated the paparazzi who had taken photos, so she remembered their faces, and what she had just seen was Zhuo Yuqing.
"The little er?" Su Yingluo snorted with contempt, "When did Chengxi’s taste become so poor? He has so many female stars under him, any of them would be a hundred times better than this little paparazzo, what’s the use of being young and pretty, it’s all just skin deep anyway."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Lan immediately started to analyze, "Sister Luo, you really don’t need to worry too much. This little er is still chasing news, which shows that Mr. Bai isn’t that into her. Otherwise, wouldn’t he keep her well cared for in a golden house instead of letting her work so hard? Mr. Bai has been lonely for too long, so he might just want to find a pretty plaything to ease his loneliness,"
Su Yingluo seemed to feel better after Xiao Lan’s words, but she immediately remembered Bai Chengxi’s behavior at the dinner,
"What does this little er do besides gathering news?" Su Yingluo felt that she couldn’t just wait for things to happen, she needed to firmly protect what belonged to her,
"She also writes articles and conducts interviews. I heard that she’s currently competing for the position of deputy editor-in-chief."
Su Yingluo looked in the direction where the car had disappeared,

The long holiday of Spring Festival passed in a blink, and Zhuo Yuqing returned to the magazine company to start work officially. The first thing she did was turn the photos Xi Yang gave her into an article and submitted it to the chief editor.
The chief editor seemed to have had some rough days recently, his face etched with worry lines unlike his usual decisive demeanor.
"Yuqing, what’s up?" The chief editor closed the file in his hand and rubbed his temples.
"Chief Editor, are you not feeling well?"
"I haven’t been sleeping well these past few days, it’s nothing serious. Right, Yuqing, I’m sorry, but there’s nothing I can do." The chief editor sighed, "The waters in this circle run deep. There are some things you might not understand. You shouldn’t take it to heart too much, or you’ll end up aging fast like me."
"Chief Editor, it’s fine if Su Yingluo’s news can’t be ed. I have another explosive story here." Zhuo Yuqing placed the well-prepared file in front of the chief editor: "Take a look."
The chief editor put down his hand from his temple and looked at her skeptically, puzzled about how such a young girl could get one big news after another.
As the chief editor opened the folder, "This, this is Xi Yang and Mu Yuan breaking up?"
"Chief Editor, this can make the headline, right?"
"Definitely, absolutely. I’ll submit it right now. I don’t believe the higher-ups have any reason to suppress my news." The chief editor instantly found his confidence, and the gloominess on his face was swept away, "Yuqing, you are truly amazing. Don’t worry, I will definitely speak well of you to the editor-in-chief regarding your promotion to deputy editor."
The chief editor was so happy he was practically floating. Zhuo Yuqing didn’t forget to remind him, "Chief Editor, it would be better to deliver the news directly to the editor-in-chief."
Of course, the chief editor understood Zhuo Yuqing’s intention and nodded seriously: "I know."
After Zhuo Yuqing returned to her seat and just opened her computer to start working, Tong Bi, who usually clung to her like a shadow, drifted over. Other people were in the office, so Tong Bi had to lower her voice, "Zhuo Yuqing, just what kind of impressive ability do you have, to be able to get Xi Yang’s news? Did you hang onto a rich patron who smashed money out for you?"
Zhuo Yuqing really couldn’t be bothered to deal with her, grabbing the mouse to start work. The best way to deal with such people is to completely ignore them.
"Zhuo Yuqing, I’m talking to you." Tong Bi raised her voice but still tried hard to suppress it, "You really are desperate for the deputy editor position."
"Tong Bi, are you mentally ill? Do you have a persecution complex or what?" Liu Lian hurried over as soon as she saw Tong Bi approach Zhuo Yuqing’s place, knowing Tong Bi wouldn’t say anything good, "If you’re capable you’d also get big news headlines. If you can’t do it yourself, you just throw tantrums here. Count for yourself, how many decent news stories have you gotten these days?"
Tong Bi’s face turned red and white with embarrassment at Liu Lian’s words. Indeed, it had been a long time since she had any good news pieces, and Zhuo Yuqing and Liu Lian had been stealing all the limelight in the magazine company. She felt her position was at risk, with Zhuo Yuqing snatching all the attention. If things continued like this, it wasn’t just about competing for the deputy editor position; even the foundation she had struggled to build might crumble.
Tong Bi noticed the glances of her colleagues, which seemed both indifferent and mocking, as if they were watching a joke at her expense. She clenched her fists in anger, yet Zhuo Yuqing simply continued working as if Tong Bi didn’t exist, making Tong Bi feel the frustration of punching into cotton and wishing she could have a fight to vent her anger.
"Yuqing ah." Just then, the chief editor came over, beaming with joy. Seeing Tong Bi there, he asked with a smile, "Are you two discussing something?"
"No." Zhuo Yuqing stood up from her seat, "Chief Editor, what’s the matter?"
"Here’s the thing, Su Yingluo has actually agreed to our interview, and she specifically asked for you to conduct it," the chief editor said, unable to hide his surprise, "As you all know, Su Yingluo hasn’t accepted any media interviews since returning to the country, and it’s a huge deal for her to choose our magazine. If the interview is published, the magazine is bound to be a best-seller."
Zhuo Yuqing listened, puzzled about why Su Yingluo would seek her out, but she immediately thought of Xi Yang. Was he trying to do her a favor again?
"Chief Editor, I’m available too, let me conduct the interview," Tong Bi eagerly stepped forward as soon as she heard about the opportunity, "Zhuo Yuqing is a newcomer, I’m afraid she’ll botch it. I’ve interviewed Su Yingluo before and have a certain understanding of her."
The chief editor shook his head: "No can do. Su Yingluo has specifically named Yuqing for this interview. Tong Bi, I’ll assign someone else to you. Li Jian wouldn’t be bad."
Tong Bi’s face fell immediately. Li Jian was just a second-tier actor; how could he compare to a big star like Su Yingluo? The chief editor actually wanted her to interview a second-tier actor.
"Okay, it’s settled then." The chief editor made the decision immediately.
