Chapter 496: Chapter 442: Ten Years East of the River, Ten Years West of the River
Zhuo Yuqing just saw the wedding invitation samples sent by the wedding company today. It was in the small fresh pastoral style that she liked very much, and the specific date had already been set.
After looking at the samples, Zhuo Yuqing put them into the drawer, preparing to call the wedding planner. Just as she picked up her phone, she heard a sneering voice behind her: "How have you been these days?"
Zhuo Yuqing turned around, and there was Tong Bi’s annoying face in front of her. She frowned slightly, "This is the editorial department, what are you doing here? The desk you used to sit at has long been replaced."
Clenching her teeth in anger, Tong Bi glared at her. If it weren’t for her, she wouldn’t have been transferred to the printing department, where she had to deal with ink every day, dirty and messy, and had to work overtime so often that it nearly made her vomit blood.
She had just passed by the editorial department and recalled when she used to be high and mighty there, with a considerable amount of bonus money each month. Compared to the hardships in the printing department, except for some overtime pay, bonuses were almost nonexistent in her life now.
Seeing Zhuo Yuqing sitting here so well and hearing that she might become the deputy editor-in-chief, Tong Bi felt her inner balance tilt. All of this should have been hers.
"I came to laugh at you," Tong Bi snorted coldly, "Why, your husband still wants you after seeing you with that actor?"
"You’re so boring." Zhuo Yuqing ignored her and turned back to continue her work.
"I hit a nerve, didn’t I? How could a prestigious family like the Bai Family really fancy a woman with no family background like you? Marrying you is just for show. They will kick you out mercilessly once they grow tired of you."
Zhuo Yuqing was used to Tong Bi’s ceaseless chatter, as if she hadn’t heard a thing, focusing solely on her work at hand.
Tong Bi rambled on by herself, thinking Zhuo Yuqing was pretending to be calm because she was guilty. Just as Tong Bi was about to sneer some more, someone suddenly knocked on the office door. Without seeing who it was, only a large bunch of blue hyacinths, probably hundreds of them, was seen as the person holding it panted, "Excuse me, which one of you is Miss Zhuo Yuqing?"
Zhuo Yuqing stood up and looked outside, "That’s me."
The courier said, "Please sign here."
"For me?" Zhuo Yuqing was surprised, seeing the bright blue hyacinths with fresh dew on them; definitely not dyed, but genuine blue roses. It would be impossible to get so many blue roses in Aus City; they must have been air-shipped early this morning.
After signing, the courier helped put the roses on the small conference table in the office, and they instantly occupied half of it.
Everyone rushed over to look, expressing their envy.
Zhuo Yuqing found a card in the middle of the bouquet, which read: To my most beautiful wife!
She didn’t expect Bai Chengxi to suddenly send her flowers, such a blatant display of affection made her both surprised and delighted. Bai Chengxi has never been one to show off, and during their time together, she had not seen him give her anything, let alone directly send it to the office to be the talk of the town.
"Wow, Yuqing, it must be from President Bai, right?" a colleague exclaimed enviously, "So many blue roses, they must be expensive. Ah, it’s worth several months of my salary, President Bai is so generous."
"You’re already married and still so romantic; I’m so jealous of you."
With everyone chiming in one after another, it was like two hands slapping Tong Bi’s face over and over. All the words she had just said were refuted by the bunch of blue hyacinths, without Zhuo Yuqing needing to say much.
Watching Zhuo Yuqing surrounded by everyone, smiling sweetly and happily in front of that bunch of roses, Tong Bi simply found it unbearably dazzling.
Enraged, Tong Bi’s face turned red as she turned and left the office, slamming the door loudly out of spite, which drew a round of ridicule from everyone else.
"What’s Tong Bi doing coming here after being transferred to the printing department?"
"Yeah, she was spreading bad rumors about Yuqing a while ago, I’ve long disliked her."
"Such a gossipmonger is just annoying."
The colleagues discussed Tong Bi animatedly. Some genuinely sympathized with Zhuo Yuqing, while others opportunely chose to side with her.
Zhuo Yuqing just smiled indifferently, her full attention on the card in her hand, feeling sweet inside.
As soon as Tong Bi stepped out of the office, a colleague confronted her, "Tong Bi, someone at the front desk is looking for you."
"Looking for me?"
"Yeah, they have been waiting for you for a long time. The front desk called your printing department, but they said you weren’t there." The colleague emphasized the words "printing department" with a touch of sarcasm, not difficult for Tong Bi to detect.
"I see." Tong Bi left without even offering thanks, brushing past the colleague and heading straight for the front desk.
The colleague snorted lightly, "What’s so great about her? A phoenix that has fallen to the ground is no better than a chicken; she still thinks she’s still the headline queen from before, acting so high and mighty."
The voices of her colleagues weren’t quiet, and Tong Bi heard everything crystal clear. She clenched her fists in the shadow, forcibly swallowing her frustration.
Upon reaching the reception, Tong Bi saw a woman sitting on the sofa, flipping through the magazines published by their magazine, who looked up at the sound of footsteps and asked, "Are you Tong Bi?"
The arrogance in the woman’s tone made Tong Bi uncomfortable, but she vaguely recognized her as someone familiar... seemingly the assistant of Su Yingluo.
"I am. And you are?"
"Miss Tong, please step outside with me for a moment, I have something to tell you." After Xiao Lan finished speaking, she didn’t wait for an answer and picked up her bag, walking out first.
Tong Bi frowned but followed Xiao Lan’s steps, curious about what she was up to despite not knowing what tricks she had up her sleeve.
Xiao Lan got into a nanny van parked at the entrance, opened the door, and Tong Bi climbed in after her.
"Please have a seat, Miss Tong." Xiao Lan sat down on the sofa inside.
Tong Bi didn’t see Su Yingluo; she supposed her status didn’t qualify her to face Su Yingluo directly.
Xiao Lan handed her an envelope, "I have some big news here. As long as Miss Tong can find a way to get it published, this money is yours."
Tong Bi was taken aback by the amount on the check pushed towards her.
She quickly opened the envelope given by Xiao Lan, and upon seeing the photos inside, she couldn’t help but smile triumphantly, feeling a smug satisfaction as if she had effortlessly found what she was looking for after much trouble.
She never imagined that Su Yingluo had such a history with Bai Chengxi.
Xiao Lan leisurely sipped her water, "Sister Luo and President Bai have known each other for twenty years and even lived together for three. They were always close. Who would have thought that after Sister Luo’s return, a third person would come between them? You know this person, it’s your colleague Zhuo Yuqing."
"Zhuo Yuqing turned out to be a mistress." Tong Bi snorted, "I knew it, with her status as a poor journalist, how could she possibly get involved with a grand household like the Bai Family."
Xiao Lan continued, "You should know, this news involves President Bai, and normally no magazine dares to it. You’ve been in the industry for a while now, so I trust you’ll have a way to make it public. Once it’s done, not only will you receive a generous reward, but Sister Luo has also secured you a job offer, so you won’t have to stay in this small magazine company any longer."
Tong Bi couldn’t believe such good fortune had come knocking, but she wasn’t naïve. After the initial joy, she asked suspiciously, "Why choose me?"
Xiao Lan put down her glass and smiled cryptically, "I’ve researched Zhuo Yuqing and know that you two don’t get along. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. I believe Miss Tong would certainly not refuse, right?"
"You’re right, I indeed won’t refuse," Tong Bi said coldly, smiling as she flipped the check in her hand, "Thank you. I’ll make sure the job gets done."
"Miss Tong, Sister Luo hopes you can do it cleanly and beautifully. But remember, taking money to eliminate disasters for others, if there are any problems, you must swear you will never involve Sister Luo. We never met today, and these items were simply sold to you by an acquaintance."
"Rest assured, I won’t mention it to anyone," Tong Bi confirmed as she stepped out of the nanny van, looking at the envelope in her hand and feeling lighter on her feet. She had always said that fortunes could change, and it seemed Zhuo Yuqing’s good days were over.
~
The scent of roses was faint, but the office was filled with the smell of pollen due to the abundance, drawing many colleagues to come and look. They had never seen such fresh blue roses before. After a quick online search, they found that these authentic roses were airfreighted from the Netherlands, not dyed, and naturally grown, making them expensive.
Zhuo Yuqing took out her phone and sent a message to Bai Chengxi, first sending a close-up photo of the roses, followed by typing a message on her screen: Thank you, hubby.
Soon, Bai Chengxi replied: You’re welcome.
Zhuo Yuqing had looked it up online; the blue enchantress meant, "Being with you is a promise." That day, in front of his parents, he had made his vows and then sent her blue roses, seemingly to tell her through his actions that he would fulfill any promise he made for a lifetime.
"I’ll pick you up tonight,"
"Okay, I’ll finish my work quickly." Zhuo Yuqing was in a great mood.
After texting Bai Chengxi, Zhuo Yuqing began her work. During that time, the magazine editor-in-chief visited and did not hold back, happily saying, "Yuqing, I heard you and President Bai will soon tie the knot. Whenever you want to take leave, just let me know."
Upon hearing Zhuo Yuqing was getting married, everyone conveyed their congratulations.
Zhuo Yuqing accepted their blessings with a smile, but when her gaze inadvertently caught Tong Bi standing outside the glass door, she felt an inexplicable panic at the look in Tong Bi’s eyes.
