Brandy followed the faint traces leading out of Skopje City.
To the west of Skopje lay a withered forest, blanketed by snow and unmarked on any map.
The forest was utterly silent, the only sound being the crisp crunch of snow beneath his boots.
The cold air stung his nasal passages, but he didn’t slow down—he only pulled his collar a little higher.
The trail ended at the edge of a clearing.
Brandy slowly pushed aside the bushes blocking his way and fixed his gaze on the center of the clearing.
Rozelite sat with her back to him on the root of a decayed tree. Her arms supported her as she leaned back slightly, her eyes relaxed as they gazed at the sky, as though she were merely admiring the dusk-stained heavens.
Brandy halted, the cloud of his breath lingering in the air.
He truly hadn’t expected her to wait for him here.
Rozelite turned her head, a faint, elusive smile playing at her lips.
“Lord Brandy, your speed is a little slower than I expected,” she said with a smile.
Brandy didn’t reply. He had tracked her here by following the faint signs she left behind, yet she seemed to have anticipated that. In other words… those traces were intentionally planted, meant to lure him in.
His gaze fell again upon her chest. The mark from his sword’s thrust earlier still remained, but the wound had already stopped bleeding. He couldn’t tell the state of her insides, but he knew he had shattered her heart with his sword energy.
Brandy couldn’t help but mutter, “To survive even after your heart was destroyed? The Rozelite I knew would never have been capable of that…”
He glanced around. No signs of an ambush.
There was only one set of footprints—hers.
Had she prepared an ambush in advance?
“No need to look. I’m the only one here.”
Rozelite rose slowly.
“Lord Brandy, do you really not know why Father wants me dead?”
“His Majesty said only one thing—”
Brandy drew the rapier from within his cane.
“You are the mistake he made in his youth. I don’t know how you survived without a heart, but this time, I’ll make sure. To be safe, I’ll take your head first.”
“I’ll confirm it face-to-face with Father myself.”
“Sorry. You won’t have that chance.”
“No, the one without a chance… is you, Lord Brandy.”
The words had barely fallen when Brandy’s figure blurred into an afterimage. Sparks crackled in the air as he shot forward like a lightning bolt toward Rozelite.
His speed was unmatched.
Even Winnie, who proudly declared herself “invincible within two meters,” couldn’t surpass Brandy in speed. As the Sword Saint of the House Charlotte and the Rhine Kingdom, his mastery of the 【Sword】 had reached the pinnacle of what a swordsman could achieve.
The ten-odd meters vanished in an instant.
But just as the lightning-wreathed rapier was about to pierce through Rozelite’s head, she moved. She raised her hand slightly, her fingertip pressing against the astral silver ring on her little finger.
The next moment, a silver astral longsword materialized in her hand.
Clang—!
The rapier scraped against the astral sword’s blade with a harsh, grating screech.
For a split second, Brandy felt as if he had struck a colossal iron gate—no matter how much force he exerted, she wouldn’t budge an inch.
Rozelite twisted her wrist, the silver blade sweeping in a deadly arc toward Brandy, who was just a breath away.
He retreated without hesitation, swift yet fluid.
Her silver sword whistled through the air, slicing off a few strands of his white hair. Though her strike missed, Brandy had already reset his stance, launching another barrage of attacks.
Steel clashed against steel, sparks flying.
Brandy’s assault was relentless, his rapier stabbing at vital points from every angle. Rozelite, however, blocked each strike with the barest of movements, her silver sword intercepting every thrust with surgical precision.
Suddenly, Brandy leapt back.
Rozelite, ready to seize the momentum, lunged forward.
But in that instant, his rapier flared with violent lightning. With a thrust through the air, arcs of electricity tore free from the blade like flying daggers.
Zzzzzaaa—!
The violent surge engulfed Rozelite entirely.
Her organs quivered as if rattled from within, her movements stiffening, her body sluggish.
“This ends now!”
Brandy surged forward, aiming straight for her head.
But just as he thought this strike would not fail, walls of earth suddenly rose from the ground. Before his eyes, the earthen walls spread with visible frost, swiftly sealing beneath a layer of ice, becoming jagged glaciers that blocked his path.
“Magic?”
Brandy’s heart jumped.
Magic wasn’t uncommon among nobles.
Most nobles received magical education from childhood, even if only a few possessed true talent. Still, that was enough for most to understand its nature.
But to Brandy’s knowledge, Rozelite was not supposed to be capable of magic.
He quickly retreated, stepping back from the frozen barricade.
Sure enough, Rozelite had already leapt atop the ice wall.
Had he chosen to vault the wall, she would have struck him from above.
Not just swordsmanship and strength, but that sharp combat judgment as well…
“Surviving after your heart was destroyed, showing such refined swordsmanship—even traces of Winnie’s style… and now instant-casting magic in the middle of battle. Are you really Rozelite? The Seventh Princess I knew could never do such inexplicable things.”
Brandy stared at the silver-sword-wielding girl standing atop the ice wall, murmuring.
He drew in a deep breath. His pupils glimmered with faint light.
And then he froze.
【Mana Perception Lv8】
A skill that allowed him to directly sense and observe mana.
Not just the mana within a body, but also the ambient mana in the air, marked as glowing white motes within this special sight. In normal people, it flickered faintly like fireflies; in seasoned magicians, it shone like lanterns in the night, impossible to miss.
As for Brandy himself, though not a mage, his immense level meant his mana was formidable, impossible to hide from anyone with 【Mana Perception】.
But in Brandy’s sight, the girl standing atop the ice wall blazed with a brilliance so intense it was blinding.
Like a sun rising upon the earth!
“You’ve got to be kidding me…”
Brandy’s lips twitched. Now, he began to understand why His Majesty had sent him to assassinate Rozelite.
It wasn’t just because he was trustworthy. It was because… that thing before him wasn’t human at all.
