The Slime Doesn't Die from Mana Transfer-Chapter 29 : Demon Seed

Chapter 29

A slime start, chopping trees for god-tier loot. Six-six-six, brothers, I’m finally playing the real thing.
“This is… a sword?”
Rozelite bent down in puzzlement to pick it up.
But just then, arcs of lightning suddenly burst from the silver-white short sword.
It wasn’t ordinary lightning—it carried some kind of repelling force. The moment Rozelite tried to grab the hilt, a sharp sting lashed across her hand as if she’d been whipped, forcing her to yank it back immediately.
“Hiss… that hurt!”
She glanced at her reddened, swollen hand.
“Hm?”
Russell’s eyes widened.
【Name: Demon Seed】
【Race: Magical Construct】
【Level: 30】
【HP: 1000/1000】
【MP: 980/1000】
【Status: Weakened】
【Skills: Demon Seed lv9, Expelling Lightning lv6, Symbiosis lv6, Hero (False) lv1】
“?”
…What the hell?
Four lightning-quick thoughts shot through Russell’s brain:
1. So chopping trees really can drop god-tier gear?!
2. Wait, this thing’s alive?!
3. Hold up—you’ve got 【Symbiosis】 too?!
4. Doesn’t matter. I’m eating you. Not even Jesus can stop me.
“Rozelite,” Russell’s voice trembled with excitement in her mind, “give me control of the body!”
“O-okay…”
Rozelite rarely refused him. Her body quickly went slack.
As she fully relaxed, her frame pitched forward, but in the next instant, Russell seized her body’s control.
Not with 【Symbiosis】—but with 【Parasitism】.
Compared to the weaker 【Symbiosis】, 【Parasitism】 let Russell wield more of his true power. And in this state, anything devoured through 【Insatiable】 wouldn’t be shared with Rozelite.
That thing had 【Symbiosis】 at level 6. If Russell shared it, he might not get enough to reach the same level himself.
And then there was this weird skill called 【Demon Seed】… who knew what nasty effects it might carry? Best not to install it in Rozelite recklessly.
“Rozelite” straightened her borrowed body.
A tentacle with an eyeball peeked from her collar, glaring intently at the seemingly harmless short sword lying in the snow.
Looking closely, the blade wasn’t solid silver-white after all—it was inscribed with faint glowing runes in a ring, delicate but incomprehensible.
“A magical construct, huh… If I damage it, will it vanish?”
Safer to take the cautious approach.
Russell raised a hand out of habit, then thought better of it. Instead, a tentacle extended from her back, inching toward the sword.
Zzzt—!
The moment the tentacle neared, lightning crackled fiercely across the blade, arcs wrapping its surface menacingly.
When the tentacle pulled back a little, the lightning faded again.
“Interesting.”
Without hesitation, Russell thrust the tentacle forward. Lightning exploded, striking hard enough to fling the tentacle back.
No matter the angle, the arcs always found their mark, repelling his advance with uncanny precision.
But that was all—repelling force, barely any actual damage.
So, he extended a second tentacle.
Same result.
Even with two striking at once, the lightning intercepted them both.
Russell glanced at the sword’s status:
【MP: 940/1000】
So every discharge drained mana. If he kept pressing, it would burn itself out eventually.
But Russell had no patience for a war of attrition.
“It’s just a magical construct. And I’m supposed to avoid it?”
【Mana Strengthening lv2】
【Shapeshift lv7】
A third tentacle lashed out.
Then a fourth. A fifth. A sixth.
He could control up to eight at once. Beyond that, their speed and precision dropped sharply.
But with six tentacles swarming, the lightning finally couldn’t keep up. One slipped past, wrapping tight around the sword.
Then the tentacle pulled it in whole and swallowed it.
Bzzzt—!
The sword thrashed violently inside, bolts firing in rapid succession, making the tentacle spasm like it would burst apart at any moment.
But that was as far as it got.
Russell revealed his trump card.
【Insatiable lv∞】
The moment the skill activated, the short sword that had been struggling to escape went utterly still. Its silver sheen crumbled, fragmenting visibly as the blade dissolved piece by piece.
Maybe it was just his imagination, but Russell thought he saw something within—something flickering, trying to flee. Yet against 【Insatiable】, there was no escape. It too was devoured utterly.
【Level: 53 → 54 ↑】
【HP: 1500 → 1600 ↑】
【MP: 971,990 → 973,990 ↑】
【Demon Seed lv0 → lv8】
【Expelling Lightning lv0 → lv5】
【Symbiosis lv4 → lv6】
【Hero (False) lv0 → lv1】
Russell sucked in a sharp breath.
YA☆DA☆ZE!!!
Every nerve in his body buzzed with exhilaration. He felt incredible, like he could fly, like he was going to burst into song:
“Since youth I’ve known life was harsh, yet still I long to soar through the clouds—”
“Mr. Slime, are you okay?”
Rozelite’s confused voice cut through.
“…I’m fine.”
Russell calmed himself down. He didn’t immediately test the shiny new skills or his upgraded 【Symbiosis】. There was something far more urgent.
The task at hand—more trees!
If one had dropped loot… what else could fall?
Russell gripped the axe, took a deep breath, and hacked at the trunk with all his might.
Thud—!
The dull impact shook the branches, leaves rustling faintly.
The axe barely bit into the bark, leaving only the shallowest notch.
Well, what did he expect? Even with him swinging, it was still Rozelite’s frail body.
Just as he raised the axe for another strike—
Thump—!
Something heavy tumbled from the branches, slamming into the ground.
Russell’s eyes gleamed.
“Another drop?!”
But when he looked closer, he froze.
It wasn’t loot.
It was a girl—eyes closed, arms streaked with blood—collapsed in the snow.
