Chapter 687: Extra Story Two: Sang Chen Chapter (1)
Xiao Song sat with his three children on the porch, frowning, his body exuding a sour air.
He had just denied coming to spy, but the children insisted on dragging him here. Now after seeing, he supposed he would lose his appetite!
Well, actually, he had generously allowed Ran Yan to meet Su Fu, but he had never agreed to a hug! His wife had taken the initiative to hug him! And something about barbecue... They had even barbecued together before!
"Daddy, you’re wearing a green hat," Xiao Lao Da said with big, watery eyes full of sympathy as he stared at Xiao Song.
Xiao Song was initially furious, but when he heard his child, only five or six years old, utter such a shocking phrase, he paused for a moment, then suppressed his raging anger and asked in a slightly calmer tone, "Who told you about the green hat?"
Although Xiao Song didn’t need to ask, he knew it was nobody but Liu Qingsong. However, he always demanded conclusive evidence before condemning someone.
"Uncle Qingsong," confessed Xiao Lao Er immediately.
Xiao Song abruptly stood up, donned his wooden clogs, and strode outside.
Wan Lu was about to have a meal prepared when she saw Xiao Song, quickly bowing and asking, "Where are you going, Husband? It’s almost time for lunch."
"I’m not eating! I’m full of anger!" Xiao Song’s voice trailed off as he disappeared down the path.
Wan Lu, puzzled, walked into the courtyard and saw the three little ones sitting on the porch with their cheeks in their hands. She approached them and asked, "Why is your father angry? Is it because Xiao Lao Da was naughty?"
Although Xiao Lao Er was the most mischievous and active, he didn’t have the capability to infuriate Xiao Song to this extent.
Ruoruo looked up pitifully at Wan Lu and said, "Lu Lu, Daddy’s wearing a green hat."
"What?" Wan Lu’s mouth hung open, the news too shocking for her, especially coming from such a well-behaved child.
Wan Lu immediately came back to her senses, muttering discontentedly, "Imperial Physician Liu really shouldn’t teach children such things...," she sighed, sat on the porch, but then curiously whispered, "What did the Lady and Su Fu do together?"
"They hugged," Ruoruo said innocently.
"Hugged...?" Wan Lu was utterly shocked.
Xiao Lao Er still puzzled, wondering why Father was so angry.
Wan Lu quickly instructed the three children, "You absolutely mustn’t speak of this matter. Do you understand? Never tell your grandparents, or you won’t see your mother again."
Ruoruo nodded like a pecking chick, on the verge of tears.
"Good," Wan Lu gently patted the heads of the three children, praising them.
"Wan Lu, have you seen your husband?" Ran Yan just came out of the kitchen. Despite having many servants, she still preferred to cook for her husband and children herself.
Before Wan Lu could answer, Xiao Lao Da said, "Daddy went to fight that handsome Su Fu."
"What?" Ran Yan paused, then immediately ordered, "Wan Lu, take good care of the children, I need to go out for a while."
Ran Yan left in a hurry.
Wan Lu, with her voice stuck in her throat, quickly asked Xiao Lao Da, "Did your father really go to fight Su Fu?"
Xiao Lao Da, seeing Wan Lu’s agitated and nervous expression, innocently shook his head, "Uncle Qingsong said that wearing a green hat leads to fights."
Wan Lu sighed deeply, feeling that Imperial Physician Liu was really in for it this time.
Ran Yan asked the gatekeeper which direction Xiao Song had left in and then rode off with two guards in pursuit.
Along the way, she could vaguely see Xiao Song’s figure, but since many people were traveling in the autumn, Ran Yan did not want to create gossip like "Assistant Minister Xiao runs heartlessly, Lady Sang chases on horseback."
It wasn’t until they were near Ci’en Temple that she actually lost track of him. Ran Yan was worried when Liu Qingsong leisurely approached on horseback, "Sister-in-law, are you also out enjoying the autumn?"
"Hmm." Ran Yan replied noncommittally, glanced in the direction he came from, and said, "You had a drinking appointment with the people from the Imperial Medical Bureau, and you’re just arriving now?"
"No, I ran into the valiant Su Fu sending Princess Jinyang back this morning, so I helped him escort the princess back to the palace," Liu Qingsong dismounted, "I came back to see if everyone had left. Hehe, and incidentally scrounge a meal from Sui Yuan."
Ran Yan frowned, "He still needs to scrounge for meals, yet you come to scrounge from him?"
Directed by a capable wife, it’s important to save where we can," Liu Qingsong said with a helpless, bitter face.
Mentioning Sang Chen, Ran Yan looked around for Xiao Song while casually asking, "Hasn’t he married the Du Family’s lady yet?"
Once Liu Qingsong heard Ran Yan’s words, he immediately cleared his bitter face and laughed loudly, "Sister-in-law, you use the word ’marry’ excellently. After the Li family and Du family broke off their engagement, the Du’s lady went a bit mad; but don’t you think that lady might also be from another time?"
"Are there really so many bizarre things in this world?" Ran Yan did not believe it.
"Is this considered strange? The Great Tang is a highly sought-after era. The sky has long been like a sieve; nothing is surprising. However, this lady’s behavior and style really do not seem like our bold type."
"Marry none but Sang Chen, isn’t that bold enough?" Ran Yan felt if this wasn’t considered bold, then what was?
"Do you know why she insists on marrying only Sang Chen?" Liu Qingsong asked.
Ran Yan shook her head.
Liu Qingsong held the reins as he said, "I’ll tell you, the girl said it’s because Sang Chen saw her face. I figure she’s either gone mad from the breakup or she’s from another time. I’ve logically concluded that the latter is more likely!"
"Your logic?" Ran Yan gave him a sidelong glance. It wasn’t that she looked down on him, but he had never been one to think logically.
"If you’re interested, I could analyze it for you," Liu Qingsong said with a smile.
"Not interested." Ran Yan knew that even if she spoke the truth, Liu Qingsong wouldn’t be able to restrain himself.
As expected, no sooner had she finished speaking than Liu Qingsong continued, "That Lady Du, originally very aggressive, could only do two things after being jilted: either go after Dejian with a knife or go after Dejian with a knife. So, if she could be driven mad by it, where would I, Liu Qingsong, put my reputation? There’s only one truth—"
Liu Qingsong’s voice suddenly cut off as he looked at a spot three feet away, where Xiao Song was leaning against a tree trunk with a dangerous smile on his lips.
"Sister-in-law, I just remembered, my wife asked me to go deliver a baby." Liu Qingsong neatly flipped onto his horse, preparing to flee, but Xiao Song’s leisurely voice arrived from behind, "You can run today, but can you evade tomorrow?"
Ran Yan thought to herself, wasn’t he looking for Su Fu to fight? He seems to be settling scores with Liu Qingsong instead.
Liu Qingsong slowly dismounted, "Jiulang, I have in-laws above and an unborn child below. Spare my life so I can meet my future son."
Xiao Song frowned and asked coldly, "What nonsense are you teaching my son?!"
Without thinking, Liu Qingsong responded, "Which day are you talking about?" Seeing Xiao Song’s expression darken, he immediately added, "I never taught them anything ridiculous."
"Hmm, I’ve decided not to discipline you after all." Xiao Song’s face suddenly softened with a smile.
Liu Qingsong felt chills all over, with no sense of relief in sight.
Xiao Song continued, "I’m actually more interested in disciplining your soon-to-be-born child." (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote with recommendation tickets and monthly tickets at Qidian (qidian.com). Your support is my greatest motivation.)
