Chapter 501: Chapter 501 I Don’t Sleep Well
The man had just finished showering, dressed in a sleek gray cotton robe, his hair damp, his gaze deep and ink-like. His entire being exuded an intense aura of masculinity; even under the guise of elegance and restraint, an undeniable sense of dominance lingered.
Delphine avoided meeting his eyes. Ignatius Leclair’s phoenix-shaped eyes were the most profound and bottomless she had ever seen—if he wished, those eyes could drown a person in mere moments.
"I’m a light sleeper, and I don’t sleep well," Delphine racked her brain to come up with excuses.
Leclair leaned against the doorframe and replied casually, "I’m a light sleeper too, but I sleep soundly. I won’t touch you."
Delphine recalled the female doctor mentioning that he had suffered from insomnia for over two months. A trace of hesitation surfaced within her, and noticing it, the man curved his thin lips into a faint smile. Leaning toward her ear, he murmured in a low, seductive voice, "If I stand here any longer, your father will see me."
Hearing the sound of footsteps ascending the stairs, Delphine hurriedly pulled him inside. When regret settled in later, the man had already locked the door behind him. He chuckled softly, his voice tinged with sensuality, "Time to sleep, Mrs. Leclair."
The last three words were spoken with lingering affection, trailing off like an unfinished melody.
Delphine’s heart trembled as her gaze met his bottomless phoenix eyes. For a moment, she was speechless.
Leclair noticed her dazed and foolish expression and couldn’t help but smirk. Wrapping an arm around her waist, he lifted her onto the bed, tucked her in, and murmured in a deep voice, "Sleep now, be good."
His breath brushed against her face, causing Delphine to shut her eyes tightly in fright. She then heard a faint chuckle and, feeling annoyed, let out a cold snort.
When Leclair lay down, the previously spacious bed instantly felt cramped and narrow.
Delphine felt surrounded by his presence—the crisp scent of pine lingered on the tip of her nose, making her want to sneeze.
She tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep, until the man propped himself up on one arm, his deep phoenix eyes locking with hers. In a low voice, he asked, "Can’t sleep?"
"Get off," Delphine’s body tensed as she tried to sound fierce, but the words escaped her lips softly, weakly.
The man’s handsome face lowered, his forehead pressed against hers. His breath heavy, he murmured, "I want to kiss you, Mrs. Leclair."
Ignatius Leclair was a man of action. With these words, he lowered his head and claimed her lips.
Delphine’s mind went blank until the sound of a muffled bang brought her back to reality. Leclair’s body stiffened before pulling away, struggling to suppress the desire that burned within him.
In her earlier panic, Delphine had accidentally knocked over the wooden water cup on the bedside table, or else the situation would have spiraled completely out of control.
Leclair had managed to restrain himself. He reached out, brushing a strand of her hair gently, carefully soothing her emotions.
Although Delphine had passed the first three months of pregnancy, and as long as they were cautious, the child wouldn’t be harmed, Leclair refused to take even the slightest risk. He wouldn’t allow for any mishap.
