Chapter 527: Chapter 527: He doesn’t want to repeat the same mistakes; he doesn’t want to see her again
A few days later, the Vice President of the Vancouver Chinese Chamber of Commerce filed a lawsuit against Delphine for intentionally causing injury a year ago. The trial was held in the Imperial City.
By the time the news reached Southeast Asia, the trial had already concluded.
Arthur White received the news with a shocked expression. Wasn’t the Vice President of the Vancouver Chamber of Commerce settled a year ago? How did he suddenly reappear, and why did the trial end so quietly in the Imperial City?
"Apparently, Miss Delphine confessed to intentionally causing injury and was sentenced to two years in prison." Arthur dared not hide the matter and quickly rushed to Emerald Hill Villas to it.
Ignatius Leclair had recently been sleep-deprived due to Big Bao and Little Bao making a fuss. Upon hearing the news, his tall and imposing figure froze for a moment before he angrily asked, "What on earth is going on?"
"Before Miss Delphine returned to Southeast Asia, her life was exceedingly difficult. She often took on temporary jobs just to earn enough for travel expenses." Arthur, well aware of the situation, quickly explained. "When she arrived in a small town near Vancouver, she worked as a private tutor and was sexually harassed. Miss Delphine injured the Chamber’s Vice President in self-defense. He then used her lack of power and influence to threaten and coerce her before filing a lawsuit for intentional injury."
Each word Arthur spoke deepened Ignatius’s expression.
"At the time, I had Magnus step in to bail Miss Delphine out, on the condition that she return to Southeast Asia. The Chamber’s Vice President assured us he wouldn’t pursue the matter further. Now, I’m unclear as to why he’s resurfaced."
Ignatius’s face grew even darker. His slender fingertips rubbed his chin, a hint of cold menace flashing in his eyes. He erupted, "Why is someone like him still being allowed to harm others? Arthur, you’re getting worse at dealing with things."
Arthur, chastised, didn’t dare offer any defense; indeed, he had mishandled the situation.
"I’ll send someone to deal with this."
"File an appeal." Ignatius struggled to suppress the fury rising within him. He hadn’t yet signed the divorce papers—technically, Delphine Carter was still his wife. His wife’s name tied to intentional injury? Ignatius let out a bitter laugh, his mood sinking into gloom.
Arthur lowered his gaze and murmured, "Miss Delphine willingly pleaded guilty. Even if Magnus brought ten teams, it wouldn’t overturn the case."
Pleading guilty to intentional injury—what appeal could there be? Arthur chose not to voice his suspicions aloud; Miss Delphine deliberately went to prison to escape the chaos in Southeast Asia.
"Your treatment of her really went too far. Miss Delphine has already suffered too much. A divorce is one thing, but denying her custody of the children entirely? Anyone would lose all hope in life after that." Arthur muttered quietly, "And I wonder if her depression has returned."
Ignatius’s face was terrifyingly grim. After a long silence, he broke it with a cold, emotionless question: "Where is she?"
"In the Imperial City, already imprisoned," Arthur responded, his voice a shade darker. "I applied for visitation rights but was turned down by Miss Delphine."
Over the years, battles among men and the dark games of power and profit-taking had led to the innocent bearing the brunt of the consequences. Arthur himself had begun to doubt the morality of the choices he’d made all this time.
"Notify Leah," Ignatius instructed, frowning. He knew Delphine would meet Leah.
"Aren’t you going to the Imperial City?" Arthur asked cautiously, startled. Ignatius had regained his memories—no matter which iteration of his personality had fallen for Miss Delphine, he couldn’t possibly remain indifferent now.
The more detached Ignatius appeared, the more unsettled Arthur grew with worry. There was a saying that extreme suppression often rebounds violently, and Arthur feared the situation would eventually spiral out of control.
Ignatius narrowed his deep, piercing eyes, silent and unmoving. Years ago, he had loved this woman with fervor, down to the bones. He didn’t want to repeat history—he didn’t want to meet her again.
