Chapter 546: Chapter 546: The Kindergarten in Imperial City is Filled with Prestigious Clans’ Children, Including the Little Princess from the Howard Family
Delphine was in the kitchen, making soup.
Nicholas Carter hadn’t started formal schooling yet. He had been sitting in on classes with Delphine from a young age and was far ahead of his peers. The domestic curriculum was too simple for him.
While Delphine cooked, little Nicholas would sit obediently on a small stool in the kitchen, quietly poring over elementary school textbooks from the country.
Cassius Turner stood just outside, observing this warm and peaceful scene with a smile. This mother and son truly cherished quiet moments together. He had been there for a few minutes already.
The man cleared his throat and chuckled softly. "Sorry, I came in without knocking."
Nicholas’s eyes lit up. He hopped up from his little stool and called out crisply, "Mommy, the professor’s here!"
Still wearing her apron, Delphine looked slightly flustered as she replied, "Professor Turner, the food might take a little longer. Please, have a seat in the living room for now."
"Alright." Cassius noticed that her long hair had been casually braided into a fishtail, exuding a lazy but understated elegance. His gaze momentarily deepened, but he politely stepped back into the living room.
Delphine prepared a traditional Chinese meal—two meat dishes, two vegetable dishes, and a pot of soup.
When the dishes were brought to the table, Cassius was bent over, explaining a set of introductory books he had brought to little Nicholas.
He had already discerned that this child’s education was far ahead of the norm. At an age when children in the country were just learning Chinese characters, Nicholas was already fluent in three languages, capable of writing simple sentences, and conversing with ease. If he followed the standard domestic educational progression, it would squander his talent.
So Cassius had taken the time to bring over the Land Family’s introductory books. The Lands, as education leaders, had developed their own system for teaching children.
This set of books, designed to build knowledge progressively, was like an encyclopedia for beginners. Members of the Land Family had been required to study them from their earliest schooling years.
The casual family meal was filled with warmth and ease.
Cassius’s breadth of knowledge was nothing short of remarkable. Despite his young age, he had already been appointed as a full professor. Coming from the prestigious Land Family, he had been exposed to extraordinary things from a young age. At the table, he spoke in a relaxed and enjoyable manner, captivating both Delphine and Nicholas.
When Cassius eventually left, little Nicholas couldn’t help but feel reluctant. He walked Professor Turner all the way to the end of the alley.
"Mommy, I like the professor," Nicholas said brightly, holding his mother’s hand.
Delphine didn’t respond. The night in the Imperial City fell quickly. After dinner, the sky was completely dark. In the deep and narrow alley, only the faint glow of the streetlights cast soft pools of light.
"Nicholas, do you wish you had a daddy?" she asked gently.
Nicholas’s big, dark eyes twinkled briefly. Snuggling up to his mommy, he spoke in his tender, sweet voice. "Having you is more than enough for me."
Monday marked the day Nicholas would officially start his first year in preschool. For his first day, he made a point of wearing the blue plaid suit his mommy had just bought him. With his little piggy backpack slung over his shoulders, he eagerly waited to go to school.
Cassius arrived early to pick up the mother and son for the trip to the preschool. Standing tall and impeccably dressed at the alley’s entrance, he looked like the epitome of sophistication. When he saw Delphine, radiant and fresh-faced like a college student, holding hands with the little gentleman-like Nicholas, he smiled. "Nicholas is joining midterm. I’ll take you there and explain the situation."
It was truly a reason impossible to refuse.
In fact, Cassius had no choice but to make this trip. This prestigious preschool in the Imperial City was attended exclusively by children of illustrious families. Even Benjamin Leclair, the spoiled little princess of the Howard Family, went there. Cassius needed to have a word with the teachers to ensure Nicholas wouldn’t be bullied at school.
