Chapter 571: Chapter 571: You Were Born to be the Center of Attention
Cassius Turner fixed his gaze on Delphine; she was the quintessential southern woman, her features as delicate as a painting, skin as white as snow, and an extremely cold demeanor, with a hint of solitary indifference etched in her eyes. This peculiar combination made her unforgettable at first sight.
"After moving, it’s best to hire an auntie to pick up and drop off Nicholas. Although your schedule isn’t too tight, the round trips can be quite tiring," Cassius Turner spoke softly and gently. "Taking the subway every day isn’t convenient. If you don’t mind, you can ride in my car. I live nearby too."
"I’ve already ordered a car; it will be more convenient to drive Nicholas myself," Delphine replied with a smile.
Delphine bid him farewell, taking Nicholas by the hand as they entered the alley.
Cassius Turner watched her slender and graceful figure, and for some reason, a surge of impulse rose within him. The man stepped forward, grabbed her arm, and in a low and hurried voice, he said, "Delphine, are you really not considering returning to the entertainment sector?"
Delphine turned back to look at him, momentarily taken aback.
"You were born to be in the spotlight, not to hide all your beauty because of a man. The reclusive life you desire is built on a foundation of power and wealth. Society is real and cruel, and you must position yourself at a certain height, either becoming strong or relying on the strong. This way, no one can coerce or control you," Cassius Turner spoke with sharp words that were brutally realistic.
Delphine remained silent for a long time before she softly said, "Cassius Turner, you are a good person."
Cassius Turner let out a bitter laugh and said, "You’ve misjudged me. In my youth, I was a notorious playboy in the Imperial City, coming from a prestigious family and doing whatever I pleased with my status, believing in the supremacy of power. Even becoming a professor at a school is just wearing a mask. But seeing you, I want to be a good person."
"How does one achieve the height you speak of?" Her eyes, as dark as ink and lustrous like jade, lit up with a strange light, her voice hoarse and inexplicably soft.
If she had harbored fantasies before, they were shattered when she learned that Ignatius Leclair had specially visited Nicholas Carter.
She didn’t want to sit idly by, waiting for the day Ignatius Leclair would come to take Nicholas away while she was powerless to stop him.
Cassius Turner’s eyes brightened slightly as he said, "Be yourself. You won the title of Actress at 23, and by 32, you’re bound to capture the world’s attention. You have six years to squander."
"That’s too long; two years is enough," Delphine smiled slightly, and an odd confidence shone through her smile.
She despised the high and mighty power in this world, but if power could bring her a peaceful life and allow Nicholas to grow up happily by her side, she was willing to try coexisting with it peacefully.
After parting with Cassius Turner, Delphine made two phone calls, one to Finnian and the other to Kyla Zamora.
Finnian arrived at the courtyard the same night he received the call. The man looked even more refined and handsome than three years ago, with a charming smile. He still carried a black umbrella and brought a dessert favored by children as he stepped into the shabby courtyard.
"I thought you would stay abroad forever and not return," Finnian said with a smile as warm as the spring breeze, handing the dessert to little Nicholas Carter, and sitting in the cramped little living room. "Your return is indeed rare. Calling me is even rarer."
Finnian had always been astute in reading people. Delphine Carter’s personality, having been subjected to oppression during her formative years, would either turn completely evil or escape into complete self-isolation. Unfortunately, this girl wasn’t bad enough, naturally kind, and with wounds that couldn’t heal, she could only resort to self-isolation.
