Chapter 608: Chapter 608: Blacklist Delphine Carter After Returning
The snowy night was profoundly silent. The man sat by the furnace, sipping local strong beer and frowning slightly. This coarse-grain brew seemed to have only one function—to ward off the cold.
"You’ve come all this way. Not going to take a look?" Constantine Stewart raised an eyebrow at the man who arrived at the snow mountain, looking sharp and stern even in his heavy winter coat. His eyebrow arched as he smiled.
"No need." Ignatius Leclair drank another can of cheap beer, his eyes lowered as he gazed at the furnace. When had a privileged heir like him ever endured such hardship, using such crude tools to fend off the cold? In this icy wasteland, the wind cutting against his face felt as sharp as a blade.
Even a man found it grueling—Ignatius simply couldn’t understand why she insisted on enduring such trials. She was never short of food and drink, surrounded by an endless throng of admirers, possessing a perfectly respectable background. She could have lived a much more comfortable life.
"I have to say, your ex-wife really knows how to stir things up. To think of something so extreme in a place like this?" Constantine Stewart spoke with bitterness barely concealed beneath a sarcastic grin. If it weren’t for all of Delphine Carter’s troublemaking, he and his young wife would still be snug in their warm bed at home, far from this hardship.
"Just like the average crowd, do you think she’d catch my eye?" The man spoke unhurriedly. "This is a matter of her script; it has nothing to do with the director."
Seeing Ignatius’s stony-faced demeanor, Constantine let out a cold chuckle. Well, he had already sent people to fetch his young wife. Soon enough, someone would share his bed for warmth. As for this detached fellow, let him stay cold and lonely.
Once this production wrapped, Constantine vowed to put Delphine Carter on his blacklist—and ideally never deal with this stoic man ever again, either.
Constantine took his young wife away to warm themselves, but the man remained awake. By the latter part of the night, noticing unusual commotion from the production crew, his brows furrowed. He instructed his subordinate, Old Liu, to investigate.
Constantine woke abruptly as well. Someone stationed at the crew’s side returned in panic, urgently ing, "The crew says that Miss Chloe Winston is missing. Director Carter and Mr. Cassius Turner went out to search for over two hours but haven’t returned yet. They’ve already called for rescue."
Ignatius Leclair’s face instantly turned as cold as ice. He issued orders to Constantine in a frosty tone: "I’ll take Old Liu and search for them. You stay by the crew’s side and keep everyone calm. No one is to run off."
The members of the crew had absolutely no wilderness survival skills; they’d only be liabilities if they wandered off.
Constantine nodded and said, "Don’t worry, you can borrow my men. The helicopter will conduct a broad search first, then focus on the targeted area. The snowfield is treacherous, and since the director is a woman, the radius should be within three kilometers. What’s most worrying is if they’ve fallen into a snow cavern or an ice pit."
Ignatius was already on his way out with Old Liu, carrying his backpack.
Meanwhile, Constantine woke Chloe and took others to calm the crew.
The flashlight’s beam grew dimmer and dimmer. The two of them kept their silence to conserve energy, huddled together tightly, occasionally calling out to each other.
Delphine gave Cassius Turner some water and administered an emergency needle to him, then waited for rescue.
She, too, had encountered similar predicaments before—or perhaps even far too many akin to them. Life and death had long ceased to phase her. Yet she couldn’t bear to leave behind her two young children who still relied on her, nor did she want to drag down a highly promising professor from a notable family.
"Delphine, tell me about the man you loved. Why did you two break up?" Cassius Turner murmured softly, having regained a bit of lucidity under the effects of the emergency needle. He coughed lightly a few times and asked.
"Parting—whether by life or by death," Delphine replied in a low voice. "Cassius, this year will be my first Chinese New Year’s Eve in Imperial City. You must remember to come to my home for the holiday."
So, we must fight to survive.
