Chapter 627: Chapter 627: He Just Likes Her, Wants to Be Close to Her, Wants to Madly Possess Her
Delphine was kissed by him and began to struggle violently. She had already been feeling uncomfortable earlier, having cried while watching a film tonight. Now, as memories from the past resurfaced, her heart felt sour and pained, and tears unexpectedly fell in front of him. The last trace of defiance in her bones surged to the forefront, and without thinking, she struggled even harder.
Ignatius Leclair was worried she might hurt herself, so he restrained himself and leaned back, though he still didn’t let her go. That brief moment of contact, the kiss, had stirred emotions and desires he had suppressed for days, making the depths of his phoenix eyes even darker and deeper than usual.
"Ignatius Leclair, we’ve been divorced for a long time. There’s no emotional connection between us. Don’t show up in front of me again. If you want to see Nicholas, just have someone pick him up." Delphine’s wrist was firmly gripped by his scalding palm. On this cold winter night, it felt as suffocating as being seared by fire. She raised her eyes, her tone serious and clear as she spoke. After crying, her voice carried a faint raspiness.
Ignatius Leclair’s thin lips pressed tightly together. The fiery emotion in his chest plummeted into an icy abyss. He hadn’t been unprepared for her resistance or even disgust toward his advances, but in the past, when he couldn’t see her, he had managed to keep it under control. Now, however, he couldn’t hold back at all.
"Feelings can be cultivated," the man said in a low, hoarse voice, restraining his emotions. "I just want to give our child a complete family."
Delphine let out a cold laugh, shaking her head. Her tone was indifferent as she said, "A loveless marriage hurts a child even more. Back then, I only mistook you for Magnus, which is how Nicholas and Benjamin came to be. But that won’t happen again. You are you, and Magnus is Magnus. I won’t develop feelings for a stranger. Besides, even if there were feelings between us, they’d be hatred, nothing else."
She forcefully pulled her hand back, making her stance abundantly clear. She would never fall in love with such a cold and heartless man who had caused her so much pain.
Ignatius Leclair’s face revealed a trace of menace. His long, narrow phoenix eyes turned nearly frosty as he stared at her and said coldly, "Even if I fight for Nicholas’s custody? You still wouldn’t consider being with me?"
Delphine suddenly smiled, a mix of bitterness and mockery filling her heart. In a hoarse voice, she said, "Ignatius Leclair, do you think emotions are transactional? If you’re intent on giving the child a complete family, there are countless women from the South Seas to the Imperial City. Surely one of them is suitable—it doesn’t have to be me. And if you claim to have feelings for me, is this how you treat a woman you like? By threats and force? This is your so-called ’love’?"
Delphine laughed softly to herself, her voice desolate and detached. "Do you know the biggest difference between you and Magnus? He understands emotions—you don’t. Your world is a snow-covered wasteland, frozen and barren. Any woman who gets close to you will freeze to death in that loveless expanse."
Only in these past two years had she gradually come to understand Ignatius Leclair. He had given all his sensitivity and warmth to his second personality. What remained was coldness, rationality, cleverness—the perfect heir to a prestigious family, but not a living, breathing person with love, hate, and passion.
Ignatius Leclair’s handsome face revealed a tinge of despair. His thin lips moved faintly, as if he wanted to say that his world had been dark and lightless, cold and silent for so many years. He, too, wished to be like Magnus: warm, empathetic, and capable of earning genuine affection. But he didn’t know how. The only thing he knew was how to use the power in his hands to possess the things he liked, the woman he liked.
He only knew that he liked her, wanted to be close to her, wanted desperately to possess her. Was that so wrong?
