Chapter 629

Chapter 629: Chapter 629: Come into My Arms, or Shall I Go to Your Side?
Delphine went up to the children’s room on the second floor, turned on the light, and saw a room decorated very warmly. Half the room was filled with adorable plush animals, as if it could host an animal tea party.
On Benjamin’s pink princess bed, two little children were kicking their blankets. One had slid to the foot of the bed, while the other was sleeping sideways. Benjamin’s little foot was resting on Nicholas’s pretty little face, and young Nicholas wrinkled his brow, sleeping restlessly.
Delphine gently lifted Benjamin’s little foot and carefully adjusted the two little ones into proper sleeping positions. Nicholas was rubbing his eyes and softly murmured, "Mommy, is it time to get up?"
Delphine’s heart softened as she picked him up and kissed him gently, saying softly, "It’s just nightfall, dear. You can keep sleeping."
Nicholas nodded, reached out to hug Delphine, gave her a kiss, and then nestled into her arms to continue sleeping.
Delphine laid him back on the bed, tucked him in, and stroked his little face, smiling faintly. Over the years, she had been moving around with Nicholas. The young Nicholas was very mature for his age; each time he woke up early, he never cried or fussed, always trying hard to adapt to one new environment after another.
When he had trouble sleeping, he would fall asleep in her arms. It was perhaps his first time sleeping in Benjamin’s room, and the little boy was still a bit uncomfortable with the new bed.
Delphine hummed a childhood lullaby softly, stroked Nicholas’s little head, and then tucked Benjamin’s limbs, which had kicked out of the blanket, back in, so that he was snug like a little rice dumpling. Only then was she satisfied with how peacefully the little ones were sleeping.
At only four years old, the child was still a soft and small bundle, like a treasure in a mother’s heart, even though he was very mature for his age.
Delphine watched the two children and couldn’t bear to sleep, until a man entered, his tall figure
leaning against the door, and said in a low voice, "It’s too warm inside, so it’s normal for kids to kick off the blankets."
Delphine’s body stiffened slightly. She stood up and said blandly, "Nicholas is sleeping quite well. If Mr. Leclair has nothing else, I’ll be leaving now."
The man, tall and slender, blocked the doorway, looking down at her with narrow, phoenix-like eyes. After a long time, he curved his lips slightly, saying indifferently, "Are you afraid that living here, I’ll do something to you, hmm?"
Delphine’s face was icy, and she said nothing.
The man chuckled softly and said leisurely, "Delphine Carter, if I wanted to do something to you, do you think you could stop me? Do you think anyone can help you?"
"Wilbur Turner? He’s lying in a hospital now. Your good friend? Leah Squire can’t even remember her own past, or do you mean Reginald Yeager in the South Seas or Griffith Squire who has been missing for three years?" Ignatius Leclair’s voice was cold and sharp, and with each name he uttered, Delphine’s face grew a shade paler.
The man straightened up and approached her tense body, whispering in her ear, "Delphine, I’ll give you time to think it over. Will you come into my arms, or shall I come to your side?"
The man looked down at her face, pale as porcelain, with a sensitive ear tip that reacted at every touch, and he smiled coldly before stepping back, saying indifferently, "Give me an answer before Chinese New Year’s Eve. I sleep on the third floor, and the room on the second floor is yours."
With that, Ignatius Leclair turned and left.
Delphine felt cold sweat in her palms and sat weakly on the sofa chair. She looked at the two sleeping sweetly, clenched her fingers, and thought that not only was this man sick, but he was seriously so. The day after tomorrow, at the very latest, she must go to the Howard Family.
