Chapter 632: Chapter 632 I Knew This Day Would Come
Nicholas Carter thought for a moment and then gave a shy smile, saying brightly, "Mommy works so hard to make money, Nicholas doesn’t have anything he especially wants to buy."
Leah was amused by the young boy and rubbed his little head tenderly, saying softly, "Nicholas is really a good child. Auntie will buy the latest adventure series books as a gift for little Nicholas."
Nicholas’s eyes instantly lit up; he almost exclaimed with joy, then glanced at Delphine to seek her opinion.
Delphine smiled and nodded.
Only then did Nicholas say happily, "Thank you, Auntie, but I read slowly. You can start by buying just one. I’ll finish it and then get another."
Leah laughed and pulled the little boy into her arms, showering him with kisses. Then she turned to Delphine with a smile and said, "In the future, hand over your household’s finances to your son. He’ll certainly manage them better than you!"
Delphine smiled, her heart full of tenderness. Over these years, thanks to little Nicholas, she had found the strength to keep going.
When they arrived at the hospital, it was afternoon tea time. Delphine approached the front desk to find out where Cassius Turner’s room was and then took Nicholas’s hand and walked with Leah to find it.
Cassius Turner’s room was on the third floor in the VIP ward. Before they got close, they noticed the door was ajar, and the sound of sobbing came from within.
"Mr. Turner, Mrs. Turner, Young Master Turner, I came to the hospital only because I had no other options. My father has been bedridden for over ten years. When my sister used to send money home, we could make do. Now my sister is gone." The young woman broke into tears as she spoke.
Leah’s expression shifted; she pulled Delphine aside.
"That doesn’t make it reasonable for someone so young to come knocking and ask for money," Mrs. Turner said with obvious frustration and turned to Cassius Turner, asking, "Wilbur, what exactly is going on here?"
Cassius Turner lay on the hospital bed, his face pale. After a moment’s hesitation, he said, "You—you’re Charlotte Hughes’s sister, Jane Hughes?"
"It’s me. I didn’t expect Young Master Turner to still remember my sister," Jane Hughes replied with a nod. The young woman, barely into her twenties, stood clean and composed.
Cassius Turner fell silent for a moment and then said, "I send money to your family every year. Didn’t you receive it?"
The young woman’s gaze flickered, and she nodded, saying, "We did, but it’s not enough."
"How much?" Cassius Turner’s face grew even paler.
"Is the Land Family willing to give as much money as it takes?" Jane Hughes’s tone suddenly shifted as she sneered.
"Are you here to blackmail us on purpose, young lady?" Mrs. Turner was instantly displeased.
Jane Hughes raised her eyes to meet Mrs. Turner’s gaze. Pointing at Wilbur Turner, who lay on the hospital bed, she sneered, "If you won’t give me money, then give me a life in return for my sister’s. If it weren’t for your son, my sister wouldn’t have died. Do you think throwing some money at us can make this all go away? I don’t want money; I want my sister back. Bring my sister back to me!"
As the young woman spoke, she rushed toward Cassius Turner, and the room instantly descended into chaos.
Leah’s expression grew grim. She pulled Delphine aside and, seeing her distraught face, said softly, "I’ll help you investigate the truth of this matter."
Delphine nodded and replied quietly, "Take Nicholas to the nearby mall or playground for a while; I’ll go take a look by myself and come back soon."
Leah took Nicholas to the nearby mall and playground. Delphine waited for a long time—waited until the young woman was escorted out, waited until the Land family had left in furious frustration—before she knocked and entered the room.
Cassius Turner sat alone on the hospital bed, his expression one Delphine had never seen before: pale, desolate, and tinged with unmistakable despair.
