Chapter 131: Chapter 131: No Intention to Marry Again
He spent so many resources on her, making her career a smooth journey till now.
This is something absolutely impossible for other women.
"If we announce our relationship right after the divorce, and it reaches Grandfather and Grandmother, they will have a bad impression of you."
Tristan Lockwood analyzed calmly.
"If you want money, resources, I can give them to you. You don’t have to find opportunities to threaten me like before to get these things. Now that you’re with me, I can give them to you proactively."
Claire Hale shook her head, "I don’t want them, Tristan Lockwood, I don’t want any of these things you’re talking about. I only want you to stay away from me, don’t disturb me."
Tristan Lockwood wasn’t that patient. The benefits he offered her wouldn’t be possible for anyone else even by a tenth, her attitude somewhat chilled his heart.
His face turned cold as he said, "Whether you want it or not isn’t up to you."
He lifted her chin, his expression softened a bit, but in his eyes, there remained an undeniable dominance, "Behave and stay with me, I won’t be bad to you."
Claire lowered her eyes, not speaking anymore.
In direct confrontation, she could never win against him.
But eventually, there might be a chance to escape.
Tristan Lockwood did not know the calculations in her heart. Seeing her suddenly become obedient, he thought she had yielded, and he pulled her leg, wanting her once more.
After that, Tristan Lockwood would visit her from time to time.
However, it wasn’t always for that purpose.
Sometimes, it was just to hold her and sleep, or to have dinner together, unless there was a sudden surgery, even if Nathan Quinn or Jenson Jennings asked him out, he wouldn’t leave.
Actually, even when they were still married, they didn’t do these things together often.
Now that they were in a clandestine relationship, it had become quite ordinary.
Claire laughed sarcastically in her heart, and said, "If Jenson is asking you out, you should go."
Tristan Lockwood gave her a deep look, "When you say that, it makes me think you want to see Jenson."
"I won’t." she curled her lips slightly, her smile not reaching her eyes, "I’m already with you, why would I think about him? Besides, I never liked Jenson."
Her words undoubtedly pleased Tristan Lockwood.
When he held her at night, his movements were much gentler than before, with a deliberate meaning to flatter.
The two of them, almost spending every moment together like a couple, were like this for nearly two months.
Until Claire saw Zoey Adler downstairs at the law firm.
Zoey Adler wearing sunglasses, with red lips and black hair, was still in that flashy and glamorous posture.
Seeing her come out, Zoey approached and greeted, "Lawyer Hale, let’s talk."
Claire didn’t refuse.
Once seated, Claire was even the first to speak, "Are you here to persuade me to leave Tristan Lockwood?"
Zoey laughed, politely saying, "Lawyer Hale, you’re really smart. Tristan has been with you for more than two months, right? The family is pushing for things between him and me, if you don’t cut ties with him, I can’t explain it."
"There’s no use in finding me."
Claire said without much emotion.
"Tristan is the one who wants to keep me bound, not letting me leave. I am also very troubled."
These words were sincere.
But to Zoey’s ears, it sounded like absolute boasting.
Zoey’s smile faded a little, saying, "You should know, you and Tristan have no future."
Claire mildly, "I know."
The more she acted light and breezy, the more uncomfortable Zoey felt, and she no longer spoke politely:
"Miss Hale, I investigated you, you’re an illegitimate daughter of the Hale Family, taken in by Elder Lockwood and the Lockwood Matriarch to be raised. In other words, it means you’re also Tristan’s sister in name. If word gets out about a sister and brother together, that’s incest."
"Mm, you are right."
Claire didn’t deny it.
Instead, she looked at her and asked, "So what? Are you going to expose it? I won’t stop you. Except at Tristan’s end, it might not be easy for you."
Zoey’s face looked even unhappier, "Don’t be too arrogant and spoiled!"
Claire pressed her lips lightly.
She didn’t know how to explain to Zoey that she really wasn’t.
She herself was still at a loss on how to separate from Tristan without angering him.
Zoey calmed down for a moment and, once more collected, continued, "I didn’t come here today to argue. Miss Hale, even if you have a low birth, I think you should at least have the dignity of a girl. Someone of your status, being with Tristan, let alone not bringing him any benefits, just the malicious speculations of others, cannot be blocked even by the Lockwood Family reaching out."
At this point, some coldness finally appeared in Claire’s eyes.
Zoey looked across her face, and for a moment, she was shocked to see a trace of the same indifference that belonged solely to Tristan reflected in her eyes.
She suppressed her shock and said, "You should know better than me that Tristan will never bring you into the spotlight if you can’t bring any benefits to the Lockwood Family. By his side, you’ll always remain in the dark."
Claire stood up, looking down at Zoey, saying, "Originally, I thought Miss Adler, with her noble birth, could come up with some clever way to make Tristan leave me. It turns out that other than seeking superiority by belittling me, you have no other skills."
After saying this, she left without looking back.
Her back was straight, her chin slightly raised.
Zoey sat there in a daze, though angry, she couldn’t help feeling a rare admiration.
She thought, what if what Claire just said was true?
Could it be that the one entrapped would indeed be Tristan Lockwood?
...
When Claire returned home, Tristan Lockwood was already sitting on her couch.
He was on the phone, and as she entered, she heard him say, "I’ll explain to the Adler family. You and Grandfather, take good care."
On the other end, the Lockwood Matriarch paused for a moment before saying, "I heard that because of your feelings for another woman, you are dissatisfied with Zoey."
"Who did you hear that from?"
The Lockwood Matriarch, "Just tell me if it’s true."
Tristan Lockwood lifted his gaze and saw Claire, saying, "I just don’t have any plans to remarry for now."
"It’s best that way," The Lockwood Matriarch reminded, "Your marriage to Claire was originally a strategic move. Now that you’re divorced, your marriage is no longer your decision. Even if you find another woman outside, pay attention to boundaries, don’t bring it to light."
"Mm, I understand."
Tristan Lockwood hung up the phone.
Then he walked over to Claire naturally and embraced her.
