Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 143: Spend a Day with Me

Chapter 143

Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Spend a Day with Me
After Claire Hale returned home, she immediately took a shower, and when she came out, she curiously unwrapped the gift Sean Lockwood gave her.
As she opened the seal and saw the clothes inside, Claire was taken aback.
In the bag, a bright red dress was lying inside.
The fabric was soft, and the style was bold.
Claire put the dress back in, sealed the bag, and took it back to her car.
On her way to the office, she sent Sean Lockwood a message: [President Lockwood, your gift is too expensive, and you also bought me drinks last night. I can’t just take advantage. When you have time, I’ll return the gift to you.]
After sending it, she got busy with her own matters.
It wasn’t until she got off work in the evening that she remembered it, only to find Sean hadn’t replied to her.
Claire thought for a moment and decided to return the gift to Sean in person.
When she drove to the entrance of Lockwood Group, she saw Sean coming out, surrounded by people all in submissive postures.
Claire parked the car to the side, wanting to wait for an opportunity when Sean was alone.
However, after the group of people dispersed from around Sean, another car stopped in front of him.
Claire glanced at the license plate, finding it familiar, and after a few seconds, she recalled it was Jared Jennings’ car.
The last time when Joy Sharp and Jude Jacobs had a big fight, Sean was also present with Jared Jennings.
Claire suddenly remembered that Renee Lynn had mentioned last time that Jared had also returned from abroad.
She had a sudden intuition that in the team Sean mentioned last night that he had abroad, Jared must be one of them.
As the car gradually drove away, Claire instinctively followed it.
During her years as a lawyer, she had done a few tracking tasks and was quite proficient, but Jared was clearly skilled in counter-tracking, losing her quickly.
Claire parked the car by the roadside, feeling a bit frustrated.
This Jared really wasn’t easy to deal with.
It seemed that it would be truly difficult to get any follow-up on Renee’s matter.
The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she became. Just as she was about to restart the car and leave, someone knocked on her window from outside.
Claire looked over.
Sean stood outside the car, looking at her with a calm and deep gaze.
The car windows had anti-peep stickers, so Sean couldn’t actually see inside.
But since she had been tracking someone just moments ago, being caught now made her feel a bit guilty.
Claire grabbed the bag from the passenger seat, got out of the car, walked up to Sean, and handed him the bag: "President Lockwood, this gift is too expensive for me to accept."
He glanced at the bag but didn’t take it.
Claire said, "I messaged you during the day, and when you didn’t reply, I thought I’d bring it over to you."
"So you followed me?"
Claire was taken aback, pursing her lips without speaking.
The person she intended to follow wasn’t even him, but now, she couldn’t tell him the truth.
So she simply remained silent.
Sean glanced at her face lightly, not knowing what he was thinking, he just said, "Things I give out, I don’t take back."
Claire tightened her grip on the bag and couldn’t help but say, "So, when President Lockwood gives people things, does it never matter whether they like it or not?"
Sean raised an eyebrow: "You don’t like it?"
Claire: "I actually dislike it."
"Then what do you like?" Sean asked, "I’ll give something else."
He reached out and took the bag from her hands.
Claire was slightly stunned, lifting her eyes to meet Sean’s smiling gaze.
She naturally couldn’t handle situations harshly, and with the gift-giver having compromised, she felt embarrassed to insist further, but still evaded by saying:
"Originally, you also bought me drinks yesterday. It’s not quite appropriate for me to accept your gift."
Sean raised his eyebrows, looking at her: "So how will you thank me?"
"Hmm?"
Claire paused.
Sean smiled: "You said thank you to me three times yesterday. Surely you weren’t just being polite and saying it casually, right?"
"Of course not."
Claire remembered favors well, and since Sean had brought it up, she quickly followed along, saying: "I don’t know much about President Lockwood, so I’m not sure what you like. Let me arrange something."
"Whatever I like, you’ll give?"
Claire: "As long as it’s within my ability, yes."
Sean’s gaze dropped to the bag he was holding: "I want to see you wear this red dress."
Claire’s expression changed, her eyes showing clear resistance.
Sean raised an eyebrow: "Seems like you weren’t entirely sincere when you said it."
"..."
Claire regretted her words. Sean, a capitalist, surely wasn’t interested in any small gesture from her as a lawyer. She had definitely shot herself in the foot.
Sean stood there with hands in his pockets, gazing steadily at Claire, a faint smile playing on his thin lips.
She probably wasn’t aware that at this moment, her usually calm and cool face showed a rather amusing vexed expression.
"Forget it."
Sean pretended to be disappointed.
"Since you don’t want to, I won’t force you."
His obvious disappointment made Claire feel even guiltier.
Could it be she misunderstood Sean’s intention in asking her to wear the dress?
"Sean..."
"You’re unwilling to wear this dress, so I’ll take it back. But you must agree to do something else for me."
Hearing this, Claire quickly agreed: "President Lockwood, just say the word."
"This weekend, spend a day with me."
Claire paused.
Sean: "What, not willing again?"
"Willing, of course willing."
She quickly agreed.
Sean nodded in satisfaction, walked to the passenger side of her car, glanced back at her, and said, "Open the door."
Claire walked over and opened the car door for him.
Only when she sat back in the driver’s seat did she realize something, and she looked at Sean, asking, "President Lockwood, didn’t you leave with Jared Jennings’ car? Why did you suddenly come back?"
Sean looked at her deeply: "So you weren’t following me, but Jared."
Her heart skipped a beat, not expecting Sean to be so perceptive. She quickly shut her mouth and didn’t ask further.
Sean didn’t continue questioning her, simply said lightly: "You know where I live, right?"
"Yes."
When she had handled his and Jade Sutton’s divorce case, and Jade had caused a scene with Joy Sharp, she had been to Sean’s house once.
After dropping Sean back home, Claire drove home herself.
As she idly flipped through her phone calendar, she paused for a moment upon seeing the weekend date.
After returning home, Claire finished her skincare routine and was in the middle of applying a face mask when Nathan Quinn called.
"Sister-in-law, it’s old Sean’s birthday this weekend. He’s been busier than a dog lately, up all night like an owl. Jared and I are planning a little birthday party to help him relax. You should come too."
