Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 148: Is It Because of Sean Lockwood?

Chapter 148

Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Is It Because of Sean Lockwood?
Claire withdrew her gaze, but the next second, Tristan Lockwood had already walked up to her.
"You’ve drunk quite a bit."
He smelled the scent of alcohol on her.
Claire ignored him, lowered her head to stare at her phone, and frustratingly found that no one was accepting her ride request home.
Tristan glanced at her phone and said, "I’ll take you home."
"No need."
She put her phone back in her bag and started to walk outside on foot.
Tristan grabbed her hand: "This place is quite far from the city center; it’s hard to get a taxi."
"I’ll take route 11."
"Route 11?" He was stunned for a moment, glanced at her straight legs, and realized she meant she planned to stubbornly walk back.
He amusedly raised an eyebrow: "If you walk back, your legs might break. If you’re not worried, I am."
Claire frowned: "Stop saying things like that to me. I don’t want to hear it."
She really didn’t want to engage with him; she just wanted to quickly shake him off.
However, perhaps due to the alcohol, her cheeks were slightly flushed. Despite her usual cold demeanor, the alcohol affected her, and even cold words seemed quite teasing to Tristan’s ears.
He reached out to grab her arm again.
"I know you don’t want to see me or talk to me, but it’s already late. It’s not safe for you to be wandering around alone."
Being with you is the least safe.
"If you don’t hover around me, I’ll be perfectly safe," Claire said clearly. "Now everyone is fine; stop looking for trouble."
She pushed against his body which was blocking her, but Tristan was as immovable as a small mountain.
Unable to budge him, Claire glared at him angrily: "What do you want? I’ve already stayed away from you as you wished, so what now?"
Tristan looked at her for a long time before saying, "Back then, you weren’t really unable to live without me, were you?"
She was taken aback, not expecting him to see through her.
However, upon reflection, she couldn’t pretend to be complacent forever in front of him, so she admitted, "Since you realized it, you should know how much I don’t want to have any more involvements with you."
By now, the effect of the alcohol wasn’t as strong, and her eyes were clear, her expression very cold.
She seemed particularly unfeeling.
"Is it because of Sean Lockwood?"
He suddenly asked offhandedly.
Claire had no idea what line of thinking led him to connect her with Sean Lockwood. After all, Sean was his uncle, and even if she found a new man, she wouldn’t literally go for the low-hanging fruit.
But she had no patience to explain to Tristan and just said, "No matter who I find, it has nothing to do with you. Tristan Lockwood, I’m not your plaything to summon or dismiss at will, amusing when you’re interested and discarded when you’re not."
"So, you admit it’s because of Sean then."
His words were stated as a fact.
His tone was also colder than before.
"No wonder you wouldn’t attend my birthday this time, all just to accompany him."
Claire was preoccupied with how to get rid of him, so she just went along with his words: "Yes, I did it for Sean. What, can you make Sean disappear from my life forever like Dylan Skinner?"
Tristan’s cold gaze suddenly shifted from her to behind her.
Claire turned around and met Sean Lockwood’s meaningful look.
Her scalp tingled.
Why did this guy show up here again? Wasn’t he sent home after drinking too much?
This Sean Lockwood was Tristain’s own uncle, speaking with one voice. If he exposed her in front of Tristan, it would have been so embarrassing for her.
The more Claire thought about it, the more she wanted to dig a three-bed, one-living-room apartment into the cement ground with her toes and crawl into it.
Sean at this point wasn’t as embarrassed as Claire.
His awkward moment was in the booth when he said the wrong things and did inappropriate things.
So he only thought about leaving quickly and ended up leaving her behind.
But later, in the car, his mind quickly sobered up. Knowing that he had forcibly brought Claire to accompany him that day, crossing the river and destroying the bridge was truly unkind.
So, he came back.
Of course, hearing Claire’s words wasn’t something he expected.
However, her ghost-seeing look when she saw him made Sean a bit unhappy, too.
So, he deliberately looked at her and calmly said, "Don’t worry, Tristan will never be able to make me leave you."
"..."
Claire was suddenly silent.
She knew there would be no good coming from dealing with this uncle and nephew pair.
Instead, it was Tristan who said, "Uncle, do you mean you’re developing something with her?"
Sean: "Does that have anything to do with you?"
Tristan’s face instantly became much more somber than before.
Sean looked freely at ease as he glanced at Claire and said, "Let’s go. It’s very late, and I’ll take you home."
"When you abandoned Claire here earlier, didn’t you think about how late it was to send her home?"
Tristan suddenly stepped forward, blocking Claire and glaring sharply at Sean.
"Come and go as you please. What right do you have to stay by her side?"
Sean paused, giving him an unexpected glance: "Isn’t that a question you should be asking yourself? Who is it really that calls her as they please and dismisses her?"
Tristan’s eyes flickered.
Then, he turned to Claire and said, "Did you tell him about us?"
Claire didn’t bother with him or Sean.
The car she called had arrived.
Whatever drama these two men were performing in front of her, Claire had no interest in dissecting.
After all, the Lockwood men acted however they pleased, none having a normal mind.
She stepped directly into the taxi.
Rolling up the window, she didn’t glance at the two and drove away.
Tristan and Sean both watched as the taxi disappeared into the night.
"You’re serious about her?"
Tristan suddenly asked.
Sean looked at Tristan for a moment.
His impression of Claire, though initially dismissive, had become somewhat appreciative now but wasn’t near the point of liking.
Even if seeing her reminded him of someone else, he once had a marriage treating Jade Sutton as that person’s substitute and wouldn’t cling to illusory feelings now.
So, even though he deliberately said those things earlier, it was just off-the-cuff remarks, not sincere.
He was also confident Claire wouldn’t take it seriously.
But Sean hadn’t expected Tristan to seemingly take it earnestly.
Given how he knew his nephew, Tristan’s judgment shouldn’t be this poor.
"What about you?" Sean countered, "Are you serious about her?"
Tristan didn’t reply, but his expression was very cold.
Sean raised an eyebrow: "Don’t tell me, when you married her, it was all just a game, and now that you’re divorced, you actually want to pursue her seriously?"
