Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 161: Someone No One Can Warm

Chapter 161

Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Someone No One Can Warm
"Didn’t you always say that you and Claire used to be very close?" Jenson took a sip of his drink. "If you were so close, would she not have told you about such an important matter?"
Jade’s smile stiffened slightly, but she still calmly said, "If she doesn’t want to talk about it, who can force her? Her biggest trait is being cold-hearted, like a stone that no one can warm up. Otherwise, how could she have been with Tristan for so many years and now just leave like that?"
Jenson’s gentle expression noticeably cooled upon hearing this.
Jade pretended not to notice his change of expression and continued, "But you can ask Renee about this. Isn’t she Jared’s wife now? Back then, she was Cynthia’s lapdog. It was her who first pushed Claire into the boys’ restroom."
Hearing Renee’s name, Jenson almost immediately frowned.
Although Renee was his sister-in-law, they didn’t interact much. But Jenson always had great trust in his brother Jared; he found it hard to believe that Jared would marry a woman who had bullied others.
Jade could see that Jenson didn’t really believe her.
But she didn’t mind, stood up with her bag, and looked down at Jenson, "Believe it or not, it’s up to you. Anyway, you can go ask Renee, and you’ll find out everything."
Jade said this and then pushed the door open to leave.
When Nathan entered the room, he noticed that Jenson’s expression was not good.
"Did you find out anything, Jenson? Who’s the little angel my sister-in-law is seeing?"
The word "sister-in-law" made Jenson frown again.
He couldn’t help but wonder if he was overthinking, why Jade sounded so familiar when mentioning Jared just now.
"Jade refused to say anything."
Jenson tossed this sentence and got up to leave. Nathan wanted to ask something more, but all he saw was Jenson’s figure rushing downstairs.
He went to the first floor, and upon spotting the familiar figure walking towards the bar exit, he followed and called out at the door:
"Claire."
Claire Hale stopped and turned to look at Jenson.
"You were the waitress just now," Jenson stated.
Claire did not deny it.
When Jenson asked her to pour the drink, she already knew Jenson recognized her.
Jenson: "You heard what I asked Jade earlier; you’re the one involved. Are you willing to tell me who that boy was?"
"He’s dead,"
Claire said expressionlessly.
"His grave is in the cemetery outside town. You tell Tristan if he wants to know who the boy was, he can go find out himself there."
Jenson’s lips twitched uncontrollably: "Tristan isn’t going to trouble him, he just sincerely wants to meet him."
"That’s why I said, let him visit the grave,"
Claire left these cold words and turned to leave.
Jenson rubbed his temples in frustration, but the next day, he still went to find Renee alone to ask her about this matter.
"There was indeed such an incident, but as for who that boy was, I’ve only seen him that one time," Renee recalled the situation carefully. "He should be the young master of some small family, otherwise he wouldn’t have disappeared so thoroughly."
Because of Jared, Renee had been somewhat distant from the Jennings family over the years.
When facing Jenson, her demeanor was also very detached and indifferent.
She said plainly, "If there’s nothing else to ask, I’ll head back first; Joyce is still at home waiting for me."
"Sister-in-law,"
Jenson called her back, his expression complicated.
Renee frowned slightly: "Hmm?"
Jenson: "Did you really bully Claire in the past?"
Renee’s body trembled, her pupils dilated in apparent shock at being found out.
Jenson’s heart sank, asking again: "Is it true?"
Renee’s eyes filled with guilt, as she spoke with difficulty:
"Yes, it’s true."
She opened her mouth, wanting to explain something, but since it was indeed a mistake she made in the past, she couldn’t argue.
Disappointment floated in Jenson’s eyes: "Does my brother know about this?"
At the mention of Jared, Renee’s guilty expression turned colder, saying, "If you want to tell him, go ahead, it would be best if he thinks it’s embarrassing to be with someone like me and divorces me quickly."
Jenson looked at Renee in shock.
Just a while ago, the whole family was sitting together happily having dinner and chatting, why would Renee now say something so heartless?
"I still have plans to go shopping with friends, so I’ll be leaving first."
Not wanting to talk to Jenson anymore, Renee picked up her bag and left the cafe, and once in her car, she made a phone call.
"Jenson came to see me. I followed your instructions and didn’t tell him that the boy who saved you was Tristan Lockwood."
Claire thanked her.
But Renee was puzzled and asked, "How could Tristan not know he saved you? Given his age at that time, he shouldn’t be so forgetful."
"To him, it might just have been an insignificant event, not worth remembering," Claire said without much emotion.
"But you could tell him," Renee blurted out, "I still remember, after he saved you that day, you followed him around like a little tail all day. Even when he was leaving, you were chasing after the Lockwood family’s car, looking longingly for a long time. Had you not been a little short-legged back then, who knows, you might have run for blocks."
Claire’s fingers trembled slightly around her phone.
After gradually drifting away from Tristan, she had deliberately avoided thinking about that memory for a long time.
But with Renee bringing it up so vividly, the pain from that once passionate yet disappointing time suddenly struck her heart intensely.
"I don’t want him to know,"
Claire said softly.
Renee was startled for a moment; how could she not hear the deep disappointment in Claire’s voice?
"Don’t worry, unless you agree, I won’t tell anyone else about this," Renee softened her tone, "And don’t be too upset; being sad over a man really isn’t worth it."
"Okay."
Claire ended the call, realizing it was getting late, and after returning to the hospital room, she bid farewell to the Lockwood Matriarch.
The Lockwood Matriarch asked again about her situation with Stanley Sawyer.
With that mention, Claire remembered that Stanley had sent her a greeting message in the morning, but she had been busy contacting Renee and forgot to reply.
She opened her chat with Stanley and sent an apology.
Stanley didn’t reply.
Figuring he was probably asleep given the time, Claire didn’t continue to disturb him.
The hospital was quite crowded today, and her car was parked in a slightly remote location. As she was walking toward it, she suddenly heard a fierce male voice: "Get lost, who the hell is your dad?"
Claire paused and, stepping around the wall, saw a little girl about five years old being flung to the ground by Shawn Sykes.
