Chapter 165: Chapter 165: Your Ex-Husband Is Truly Handsome
Claire watched him warily, "What are you up to again?"
Her extremely defensive posture made him uncomfortable. Clearly, she could get along so well with Stanley, a stranger she hadn’t met before, but whenever she saw him, it was like she was facing an enemy.
"I just want to try to get along with you."
Tristan Lockwood stared at her steadily.
"Counting the years, we’ve known each other for over a decade. In a lifetime, how many decades does one have? Even if we’re not together, I don’t want to lose you. Can’t you just see me as a regular friend?"
"Even if it’s been over a decade, it’s over." Claire said expressionlessly, "You heard me earlier, I will find someone else who is mutually in love with me, who accepts me, and truly loves me. For the sake of my future other half, it’s necessary for me to draw a line with you."
She paused for a moment, and as if thinking of something, she added, "Besides, you already introduced Miss Zhao to your grandparents, and she’s a nice person."
"Do you really hope I end up with someone else?"
Tristan’s gaze turned dark and obscure.
Claire said nothing and went straight back to her table.
Tina Hayes and Joy Sharp had just about finished eating, and Claire turned to pay the bill, but Tina got ahead of her, saying, "I’ve already paid."
She raised an eyebrow in surprise, "Weren’t we going to let me pay?"
Tina replied, "Consider it a punishment for ditching you with Tristan Lockwood!"
Claire chuckled, but out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly noticed Sean Lockwood looking dapper in a suit, walking side by side with Tristan from the private room hallway.
Following closely behind them was the pretentious Shawn Sykes, along with others Claire didn’t recognize.
Judging by the respectful demeanor of those people towards Sean and Tristan, it seemed like a Lockwood Group executive gathering.
Tristan and Sean were already both strikingly handsome, and coupled with the fact that they were wearing well-tailored suits today, their elegant demeanor was even more striking.
Just walking to the entrance, in such a short distance, they attracted many admiring glances in the restaurant.
"Gotta admit, President Hale, your ex-husband is really handsome."
Tina seized the opportunity to whisper.
As she spoke, the group happened to walk past them, and Shawn paused, giving Claire a meaningful look.
Claire’s expression remained unchanged, coldly watching Shawn.
The scandals about his misdeeds were all over the internet, yet they seemed to have no impact on his position at Lockwood Group.
Of course, it might also be because Shawn has thick skin and doesn’t care about others’ opinions.
Noticing Shawn’s examining gaze on Claire, Tristan coldly remarked, "Those who are demoted should stop having crooked thoughts."
"Little President Lockwood, I was just appreciating a beauty, isn’t she someone you know too?" Shawn responded with a smirk that didn’t reach his eyes.
Tristan’s glance swept over Claire and quickly moved away.
He and Sean walked ahead, and after distancing themselves from the others outside the restaurant, Tristan said, "With Shawn’s scandal making such a splash, demoting him from Vice President to Manager seems too lenient."
"It’s all about his personal life, at most he just gets a bad reputation. When it comes down to it, he just secured a project in the suburbs for the company recently, we still owe him commission for that."
Sean said absentmindedly.
Seeing Tristan’s discontent, Sean added, "I know you dislike his ways, but in the business world, profit comes first. After all, good character and morals don’t make money."
While Tristan is actually good at business, his main job is being a doctor. With his scholarly nature and past experiences, he looks down on people like Shawn.
"If he causes trouble for Claire, I won’t let him go."
Tristan’s expression was very cold.
Sean shot him a thoughtful look, and after pondering for a moment, said, "Honestly, what Claire did was too clumsy. To Shawn, it was just a scratch, but she’s baited hatred, easily inviting trouble."
As soon as he finished, Tristan suddenly let out a cold laugh.
Sean calmly looked at him.
Tristan: "She targeted Shawn because she’s helping her client fight a lawsuit. She’s not part of Lockwood Group. Don’t take it for granted when using her."
Sean raised an eyebrow, "I am indeed using her, but once there’s a result, naturally I’ll give her what she wants."
"What if there isn’t?" Tristan said coldly.
"There’s no problem money can’t solve, it’s just a matter of little or much money." Sean said nonchalantly, "Didn’t you also say Claire only cares about money?"
...
Today, Claire drove out, so after the meal, she planned to first drop off Tina and Joy at their homes.
When they reached the car, Joy’s gaze swept over the tail of the car and noticed something seemed to be smeared on it. She went over to take a look, and her expression instantly changed.
"Joy, why are you standing there?"
Tina urged Joy, only to find her staring intently at the back of the car with a frown.
Claire was also curious, so she got out of the driver’s seat and walked to the back of the car. She saw that the white body of the car was covered with dense lettering written in paint: "Damn bastard, go die!"
"Who’s so uncivilized, scribbling all over someone’s car!"
Tina, with her fiery temper, immediately flared up, shouting about going to the police station to retrieve the surveillance footage from around here.
"It’s late, I’ll take you home first." Claire said indifferently, "It’s probably just someone playing a prank."
"A prank? It’s clearly done by someone who knows you, otherwise, how would they..."
The words "bastard" weren’t uttered by Joy.
She was pretty furious too. If she found out who dared to rub salt into Claire’s wound, she wouldn’t let them off.
Claire was much calmer than the two of them. After all, it wasn’t her first time encountering something like this, as a child she was bullied by Cynthia and her group, who carved even harsher words on her desk.
"Get in the car first."
Claire said.
Tina and Joy ignored her and ran back into the restaurant. They returned with a bucket of water and, after a lot of effort, cleaned off the back of her car.
Once the car was cleaned, Joy felt much better and smiled at Claire, "Let’s go now!"
"Wait, I’ll return the bucket to the owner."
Tina quickly ran back into the restaurant.
Claire paused for a moment, her gaze falling on Tina’s busy figure and Joy’s sincere smile, causing her eyes to heat up and her vision to blur.
"Let’s go."
She restrained the surge of emotion and got into the car.
After dropping off Tina and Joy at their homes, Claire returned to the vicinity of the restaurant, found the local police station, and retrieved the surveillance footage.
