Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Afraid I’ll Do Something Bad to Her?
Tristan Lockwood had his reasons for thinking this way.
Since coming back from Seacliff, Claire hadn’t been intimate with him.
During this time, Dean Dawson had popped up like an unexpected twist.
Claire glanced at him, not understanding his line of thought.
But she couldn’t be bothered to explain and just said, "Tristan, why do you care about who I like? Just mind your own Princess Pea, won’t you?"
Maybe one day, when she’s in a bad mood, she’ll go straight to Sean and tell him his nephew gifted him a hat.
By then, Tristan would surely be full of regret.
"Didn’t you say last time that there’s someone you’ve liked since childhood? And now you’ve changed your mind?" Tristan stared at her coolly. "Claire, how can you be so heartless?"
Claire gave a slight, indifferent smile: "I’m not as sentimental as you. After all these years, you’re still pining for that Princess Pea who wrote you letters. Such a pure love warrior you are."
Tristan frowned: "Why bring her up again?"
"What? Afraid I’ll do something bad to her?"
Tristan now had no interest in continuing this discussion.
He released her hand, gave her a subtle glance, and then went into the bathroom.
Claire had originally thought that the whole Dean Dawson thing had blown over.
But she didn’t expect to see him again at a company team-building event.
Dean wore casual clothes, looking more approachable than when in a suit. The female colleagues flocked around, wanting to take pictures with him.
When he saw Claire, he immediately pushed through the crowd and ran towards her, saying, "Claire, long time no see."
Claire felt indifferent and asked, "It’s our company event, what are you doing here?"
Dean smiled: "You misunderstood, it’s purely a coincidence. I’m a hiking enthusiast; I often come to these mountains."
Claire was skeptical of his words.
These mountains were near Riverbend, and Dean bypassed a whole range of mountains in Seacliff just to come to Riverbend? That seemed unlikely.
Nevertheless, the mountains weren’t hers, and she couldn’t drive Dean away, so she simply ignored him.
But upon seeing Tina Hayes, she walked over, gave her a cold look, and asked, "Were you the one who leaked the event location to Dean?"
Tina laughed awkwardly: "I accidentally posted about the team-building on my moments, maybe Attorney Dawson saw it."
Claire looked at her quietly: "And you have him on WeChat too?"
Tina: "President Hale, if you’re jealous, I’ll delete him right away."
"..."
Claire: "Do you keep trying to match-make Dean and me because you’ve forgotten I’m married?"
"Not really."
Tina held a camera and casually took a picture of Claire.
She was good at playing with lighting, capturing Claire in the sunlight with her hair blowing, looking strikingly beautiful.
Tina continued: "That Tristan has his precious Princess Pea, you can have your dashing top-notch lawyer too. Let him see how warm it is to wear a green hat!"
Claire gave her a side glance: "Should I be thanking you then?"
Tina blushed and smiled: "President Hale, you’re too kind!"
Claire: "..."
Just as she finished talking to Tina, Dean walked up beside her.
"Claire, I’ve thought a lot about what you said the other day. There are some things I still want to tell you."
"What things?"
Claire was absent-minded.
Dean said: "Even though you’re married, I can tell you’re not happy in your marriage. Otherwise, you wouldn’t avoid mentioning your husband. I wouldn’t mind developing a special relationship with you, like I’m your emotional harbor."
If words could convey emojis, Claire really wanted to send Dean a smiling face and add four words:
Are you out of your mind?
"I’m very satisfied with my current life, so don’t waste your efforts."
Claire quickened her pace, distancing herself from Dean.
She thought that knowing she was married would make Dean refrain from bringing this up again.
But unexpectedly, his moral compass was so skewed he wanted to drag her into an affair.
Initially, though she wasn’t interested in Dean’s pursuit, she could see he was sincere and thought they could be friends.
But now, with his current antics, Claire was starting to think it’d be better to keep her distance.
Deep in thought, she unknowingly reached the top of the mountain.
The top had a beautiful view, with clear skies that refreshed the mind. Many people would stay overnight to watch the sunrise the next day.
Claire arrived early and, while it was still not crowded, began looking for a place to set up her tent.
She found a spacious spot with a great view. Just as she was about to contact Tina, she looked up and saw Tristan Lockwood.
Beside him was Jade Sutton, holding his hand, the two of them standing like a perfectly matched couple.
Almost at the same time, Jade noticed Claire as well.
Jade, without a mask this time, opened and closed her full, rosy lips, seemingly speaking to Tristan.
Claire’s gaze roamed shamelessly over the two, and as Tristan walked towards her, looking slightly cold, he asked, "How many times have I told you to stop doing such things?"
She was momentarily stunned and only realized that he thought she had followed them on purpose when she saw the accusatory look on his face.
"Company team-building."
Claire looked at him calmly, but her peripheral vision was assessing Jade standing not far behind him.
Tristan sneered: "Find a better excuse if you’re going to lie. A one-person team-building?"
She rolled her eyes at him: "Believe it or not."
Just as she finished speaking, Tina led a group over in her direction.
Of course, Dean was among them.
Seeing Tristan and Claire together, he quickened his pace, stepped forward, grabbed Claire’s wrist, and shielded her behind him.
Then, courteously addressing Tristan: "Dr. Lockwood, what a coincidence."
Tristan nodded slightly, glanced over the group behind, then looked at Claire.
Claire turned her head, wanting to pretend she didn’t know him.
Tristan’s gaze lingered on Dean holding her wrist, and perhaps deliberately, he asked: "Are you two in a relationship?"
"Not yet."
Dean smiled politely.
This "yet" was quite suggestive.
Jade, who had been standing behind, walked over and tugged on Tristan’s sleeve, her voice delicate: "Let’s find another place to set up the tent."
Claire’s gaze locked onto them, and she said, "Since we’re here, we might as well set up together."
She then looked at Tristan, her lips curling slightly: "What do you think, Dr. Lockwood?"
Tristan stared at her for a long time, seemingly pondering what she was plotting now.
After a while, he said indifferently: "Okay, since we know each other, it’s good to look out for each other."
Jade pursed her lips, reluctantly nodding.
Seeing Claire take out a tent from her bag, Dean proactively stepped forward and said: "Let me help you."
"No need."
Claire brought her own small, automatic tent and had it set up quickly.
When she looked up, she saw Jade, alone, struggling with her poorly set-up tent.
