Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Who Told You She Married Him for Money
Tina Hayes became increasingly angry, somewhat unrestrained in her words:
"Moreover, the fact that you’re engaged to someone like Kiara Vance indicates that your judgment of women is really poor. Your words are not very credible."
"Who I choose to get engaged to is none of your business to judge."
Nathan Quinn’s voice suddenly turned cold.
Tina Hayes froze suddenly.
Nathan Quinn smirked slightly, mocking, "If you can casually judge my taste, then can I also say that you, a woman who knows nothing, can’t do anything besides relying on your mouth to prove yourself?"
Instantly, Tina Hayes’s face turned ashen.
Nathan Quinn continued to stare at her aggressively, wanting to say more, but was stopped by Claire Hale: "Nathan, Tina is still young, there’s no need to take her seriously."
High society marriages come with an unavoidable bitterness. Tina Hayes’s words indeed hit a nerve with Nathan Quinn.
Just like herself, always dancing in Sean Lockwood’s minefield.
No wonder Nathan Quinn suddenly got angry.
Claire Hale glanced at Tina Hayes, whose eyes were red, looking quite aggrieved.
She pondered for a moment and said calmly: "Tina, Nathan is right, it was indeed by any means necessary that I tricked Tristan Lockwood into this marriage. I have nothing to hide about this."
Then she turned to Jenson Jennings and asked: "Did Jade Sutton show those letters to you?"
"No," Jenson sounded puzzled by her question, "Why?"
Claire Hale: "If you haven’t seen the truth with your own eyes, you still believe it?"
Jenson chuckled: "Letters are too personal, even if Nathan and I have our thoughts, we’re in no position to delve deeper. Moreover, whether we believe or not doesn’t matter, what matters is that Tristan believes deeply."
Claire Hale lowered her gaze as if contemplating something.
Jenson: "Though you are at odds with Tristan, you understand him. He’s a cautious and serious person, won’t easily trust others, but once he does, it’s hard to shake that trust."
"I understand."
Claire Hale nodded thoughtfully, then looked up and said to Tina Hayes: "Help me draft a divorce agreement."
The words faded away, and the other three in the ward exchanged looks.
Nathan Quinn, being quick-tongued, tried to say something but was stopped by Jenson’s glance.
Tina Hayes simply replied, "Sure."
They didn’t stay much longer.
After leaving the ward, Nathan Quinn asked Jenson: "Why did you stop me from speaking?"
"What could you say, persuading divorce or reconciliation?"
"I..."
Being questioned like that, Nathan Quinn found himself at a loss for words.
From the start, nobody ever believed in Tristan Lockwood and Claire Hale’s marriage. Everyone awaited the day Tristan Lockwood and Claire Hale would divorce. Unexpectedly, it was Claire Hale who calmly decided to divorce now.
Nathan Quinn felt puzzled: "Claire has been with Tristan for ten years. Back then, when she forced him to marry her, no matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t persuade her to back down. How come she suddenly realized now?"
Jenson glanced at Jade Sutton’s ward not far away and said: "Well, you should ask yourself why Tristan runs to somebody else’s ward when both your wife and another woman are hospitalized at the same time."
"That’s it?"
Jenson paused, raising his eyes to look at Nathan with a teasing smile: "Do you think this is trivial?"
Nathan Quinn chuckled awkwardly: "Claire married Tristan for the money he had. It was her choice, and now she’s dissatisfied because she wants both money and love. Can Tristan give her that?"
"Who told you Claire married Tristan for money?"
"Both Claire and Tristan say so, don’t they? Last time at the bar, Claire even told people she treats Tristan like an ATM."
Nathan Quinn couldn’t help but smack his lips.
"Honestly, if Claire doesn’t care about Tristan, you can’t blame him for seeking another woman. Who could tolerate always seeing a cold, unapproachable wife at home?"
Jenson cast a glance as if looking at a fool.
"Remember last time at the bar, when Tristan mentioned Claire’s eighteenth birthday, and she ended up drunkenly confessing to a random person on the street?"
Nathan Quinn thought for a moment: "That did happen, but Claire said only you knew about it. How did Tristan know?"
Jenson: "Take a guess who that passerby Claire clung to was."
"I’m not a fortune teller; how could I know? Could it be Tristan?"
Just as Nathan finished speaking, he saw Jenson’s lips curl up in a half-smile.
"No way... could it be... Claire..."
Jenson raised his eyebrows and interrupted him: "You guessed it right for once."
Nathan Quinn found it incredibly unbelievable.
"How could that be? You mean Claire likes Tristan, and she’s head over heels for him? But she’s always opposing him or nitpicking at him. Saying she likes him is harder to believe than her having a grudge against him. Besides, Tristan was abroad back then, how could he have celebrated Claire’s birthday?"
Jenson glanced at him: "That’s why your relationships never last; there’s a reason."
Nathan Quinn: ?
...
Claire Hale’s fracture this time required her to be hospitalized for at least half a month.
Having left the Hale Family early and without many friends, besides Tina Hayes occasionally visiting her, most of the time she was alone.
At noon, Claire Hale was sunbathing downstairs of the inpatient department.
From afar, she saw Tristan Lockwood in a white coat walking side by side with Jade Sutton.
Perhaps due to being in the hospital, the two didn’t walk closely together, with Tristan Lockwood maintaining his usual indifferent expression as Jade appeared to say something to him.
He lowered his head slightly, looking patient, and even nodded seriously.
The corners of his lips also curved slightly.
Claire Hale emotionlessly withdrew her gaze.
As the two walked towards her, she thought of pretending not to know them, but Jade Sutton spoke first, asking with concern: "Claire, how’s your foot injury? You suddenly disappeared that day. It scared us. Didn’t expect you would take a shortcut alone with Dean Dawson. Did you two...?"
"Of course nothing happened between me and Dean Dawson."
Claire Hale leaned against the bench, speaking nonchalantly:
"I’m still very traditional, even if my husband is never at home, always going out with other women, I won’t stoop to their level without moral boundaries."
Her words were sarcastic, indirectly targeting both Tristan Lockwood and Jade Sutton.
Jade Sutton’s face paled slightly, she weakly said: "There’s really nothing between Tristan and me, he’s simply helping me out of past considerations, Sean Lockwood is someone you might not know well, if he really found me, I’d die a horrible death."
