Chapter 136

Chapter 136: Overthinking
He looked up at Rong Zhenqiao in a daze and when their eyes met, he couldn’t help but hiccup.
So... he had been overthinking things all along?
Rong Xingyu’s face flushed slightly as he realized belatedly that he had been crying here.
He couldn’t help sneaking a glance at Ding Yixin, only to find that Ding Yixin had been watching him all along. Though he didn’t smile, there was clearly amusement in his eyes.
Rong Xingyu: !!!
He feels a little bit embarrassed.
"Cough, cough!"
Seeing the two of them starting to exchange glances in a flirtatious way again right in front of him, Rong Zhenqiao couldn’t help but cough a few times.
He furrowed his brows and said, "Xiaoyu, you’re already an adult now. Big brother trusts you, so I won’t interfere with any of your decisions. But in this matter, I still hope you can think it through carefully."
Although he wasn’t opposing it, Rong Zhenqiao remained not very optimistic about Rong Xingyu’s relationship in his heart.
As an older brother, he had to think about more things.
But what Rong Zhenqiao cared about most was whether Rong Xingyu would get hurt in any way.
Rong Zhenqiao didn’t usually care about gossip, but after being in the circle for so many years, it was unavoidable that he would hear some rumors.
At first, people might start with strong feelings, but in the end, things could get messy, jealous, and out of control, sometimes even turned deadly.
Rather than that, Rong Zhenqiao hoped Rong Xingyu would find someone whose background was at least similar to theirs.
Even if it wasn’t perfect, it didn’t matter; as long as that person always treated Rong Xingyu well, that was enough.
But if Rong Xingyu truly liked someone...
Rong Zhenqiao asked in a low voice:
"Xiaoyu, do you really like him?"
"Yes."
Rong Zhenqiao looked into Rong Xingyu’s eyes.
At that moment, all he saw in the boy’s eyes was certainty.
"..."
Rong Zhenqiao felt like letting out a long sigh, but instead, he reached out his hand and patted Rong Xingyu’s head, letting him go upstairs to rest first.
Rong Xingyu bit his lip, first glancing at Rong Zhenqiao, then at Ding Yixin.
Seeing Ding Yixin nod slightly at him, Rong Xingyu had no choice but to get up, he then walking upstairs while looking back over his shoulder every few steps.
As he walked, Rong Xingyu couldn’t help but worry in his heart: Big brother and Dr. Ding should talk things through properly, right?
Leaving the two of them in the living room, nothing bad should happen, right?
Even when Rong Xingyu lay in bed, he was still thinking about these things.
As a result, he didn’t sleep very well and he vaguely thought he could hear some sounds coming from downstairs.
What exactly happened that night, Rong Xingyu had no idea.
But when he woke up the next morning, the house was empty except for himself.
Standing in the living room, Rong Xingyu rubbed his nose, feeling a bit puzzled.
He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but the living room seemed... slightly different somehow.
"Huh? Wasn’t there a vase in the corner before? Where did it go?"
Rong Xingyu blinked his eyes. Had he remembered wrong?
It was just a decorative vase, so he didn’t think too deeply about it.
However, in the following days, both his big brother and Ding Yixin suddenly seemed busier than ever, as if they had silently agreed to be occupied at the same time.
The result was that Rong Xingyu didn’t see either of them for several days straight.
"So busy..."
Rong Xingyu pouted a little and tapping on his phone screen with some dissatisfaction.
The screen showed a message from Ding Yixin, saying he would be traveling out of city for a few days and asking Rong Xingyu to take good care of himself.
"Alright~" Rong Xingyu typed while muttering to himself, "Who asked me to be the most understanding boyfriend ever?"
Before he could even send the message, Ding Yixin’s call came through.
It barely rang once before Rong Xingyu immediately answered.
When the call connected, Rong Xingyu suddenly felt that maybe he had picked up too fast, almost like he had been too eager.
He coughed once and tried to act calm and collected, trying to put on a little attitude.
But the moment he spoke, his soft voice completely exposed his real feelings.
Ding Yixin called only to repeat the same things he had just texted.
But after all, they had only been together for a short time and they were still in the sticky, clingy stage of a new relationship.
Even the most pointless words could be said over and over again for a long time and neither of them would feel annoyed at all.
He didn’t know how long they talked, but eventually Rong Xingyu felt like the phone in his hand was starting to heat up.
"I miss you so much..." Rong Xingyu said softly.
His voice was very quiet, but unexpectedly Ding Yixin still caught that small, almost complaining sentence perfectly.
Ding Yixin let out a low laugh and said, "I miss you too, Yuyu."
His voice was already deep to begin with, but through the phone when it’s reaching Rong Xingyu’s ears, it sounded even deeper and more magnetic.
Rong Xingyu felt his ears turning numb from the sound.
He touched his ear in an awkward little motion and hummed a soft reply.
"When are you coming back?" Rong Xingyu asked again.
He heard Ding Yixin pause for a moment, and then say, "Soon."
"I’ll come back to see you very soon."
Hearing the promise, Rong Xingyu held his phone and smiled sweetly.
But he didn’t expect Ding Yixin to follow up with, "Yuyu, do you remember what you promised me before?"
Ding Yixin’s voice was a bit hoarse and if one listened carefully, there was even a tone that wasn’t quite proper.
Promised... what?
