Chapter 43: Late Night Thoughts
However, strangely, instead of jealousy, what filled his heart was a quiet warmth. It was an emotion that felt both familiar and real, as if he himself had been the one waiting to receive these gifts all along.
It was strange.
From the moment he’d met Rong Zishan earlier that day and even before that, when he’d met his eldest and third brothers, he had felt an inexplicable closeness toward them.
Even though they’d only met recently, it was as if his heart easily accepted the role of being their younger brother.
Maybe it was because... he had always longed to have older brothers of his own?
Because of that, although he had planned to spend the night working on a few sets of practice problems, Rong Xingyu ended up spending most of his evening carefully organizing the pile of gifts that Rong Zishan had brought for him.
It wasn’t until he was lying in bed and ready to sleep, that he finally had time to sort through the parts of the novel’s story he could still remember.
The book’s plot had been told from the perspective of the main protagonist, Rong Zhihao.
It mainly followed his return to his wealthy family and the various sweet heartwarming stories that unfolded between him, his four older brothers and the powerful love interest the eldest son of the Rong family.
At this point, most of the major characters had already appeared.
Rong Xingyu counted on his fingers, there was still the original body’s second brother and that one mysterious man, the main villain of the story.
The second brother was a top celebrity, he’s the most popular film emperor in the entertainment industry.
Rong Xingyu had even looked him up online once, so he had technically "seen" him before.
As for the story’s most mysterious villain, Rong Xingyu had only skimmed through his part before.
He remembered that the villain had a deep and complicated connection with the main love interest.
However, later in the story, their relationship completely fell apart and they became enemies.
What puzzled Rong Xingyu was that, unlike almost everyone else, this villain wasn’t at all attracted to the charming protagonist.
Instead, he constantly interfered with the supposed "perfect love story" between the two leads.
He was probably the only major character in the novel who openly disapproved of the official pairing.
Rong Xingyu sighed.
That kind of character was exactly the type he should never get involved with.
Still, when he tried to recall the details about that man, everything felt hazy, as though his memory was covered by a thin layer of fog. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t remember clearly.
But as long as he stayed far away from both the main protagonist and the love interest, everything should be fine... right?
When Rong Xingyu had first arrived in this world while holding the "script" of the story in his mind, he couldn’t help but view the people around him especially the ones connected to the main characters as if they were just background figures or two dimensional characters in a book.
Even though he had felt a strange sense of familiarity when he first met his older brothers, there hadn’t been any real emotional connection yet.
But after spending time with them everything changed.
Now, he could no longer see them as mere characters.
The calm and dependable eldest brother who told him to reach out if he ever needed help.
The cold but fair third brother who still spoke up for him when necessary.
The lively fourth brother who had just arrived today with a suitcase full of gifts.
His first real friend here, Qian Zhijun.
And Dr. Rong...
All of them had become important to him.
They are real people in his life.
When he first came into this world, Rong Xingyu had thought that if one day the original body returned, he would simply give everything back and quietly leave, keeping only the memories of the good times.
But now, lying there in the dim light, he realized that if that day ever truly came...
Could it really be that simple to just "give everything back"?
Rong Xingyu turned over in bed, his thoughts a tangled mess.
He couldn’t help but wonder if his sudden arrival in this world had already caused the story’s plot to change... some parts even felt slightly... off, almost eerie in a way he couldn’t explain.
Originally, he had believed that the original Rong Xingyu and his fourth brother were very close.
However, after digging through the original’s memories, he realized that wasn’t exactly true.
Rong Zishan had spent most of his time abroad, training and competing, so the two brothers hadn’t seen each other very often.
Even the box of gifts he brought today was apparently something he’d bought on a whim.
But his affectionate attitude today couldn’t have been fake.
So what was going on?
The more Rong Xingyu thought about it, the more confused he became. His mind was a swirl of questions with no clear answers.
Just then, his phone buzzed.
It was a WeChat notification popped up, saving him from his spiraling thoughts.
He picked up the phone and looked at the screen.
Rong Xingyu saw that it was a group chat invitation.
Ever since the school’s sports festival, many classmates had started adding him as a friend.
Before, when the original Rong Xingyu had still been around, he had a bad temper and often looked down on everyone.
In the entire class, there hadn’t been a single person who could stand him.
Other than a few people who wanted to curry favor with the powerful Rong family, no one dared to approach him, let alone invite him to join any class group chat.
But things had changed.
Ever since Rong Xingyu "turned over a new leaf" and became a completely different person, his classmates’ impression of him had gradually shifted for the better.
When he got first place in the entire grade, he didn’t act proud or arrogant.
