Chapter 67: A Quiet Walk
His face was almost too perfect with sharp features, long hair that brushed his collar, and a pair of thin gold-rimmed glasses resting on his nose.
Yue Yeqiao and Zeng Youzhen exchanged glances with their eyes wipe open.
That man looked exactly like the gorgeous man who’s gives them milk tea from the other day!
"Dr. Ding?" Rong Xingyu immediately recognized him and couldn’t hide his surprise.
"Wait, is that the same handsome guy who practiced the stage play with us last time?" Qian Zhijun asked while squinting his eyes. The man looked familiar to him too.
Rong Xingyu nodded.
Why was Dr. Ding here as well?
"So he’s a doctor!" Zeng Youzhen gasped, instantly picturing him in a white lab coat. The image made her heart race.
She couldn’t help wondering which hospital he worked at. Not that she needed medical attention, but if she ever did, it wouldn’t hurt to have such eye candy around.
Rong Xingyu shook his head. "Dr. Ding doesn’t work at a hospital. He’s actually our school doctor."
"School doctor???"
Yue Yeqiao and Zeng Youzhen said it at the same time, their voices filled with disbelief. "Since when did our school have a school doctor that handsome? No way!"
It didn’t make sense.
If someone that stunning worked at their school, they would’ve noticed him long ago.
At the very least, the school’s online forum would’ve already exploded with people obsessing over his looks.
Yue Yeqiao quickly pulled out her phone and opened the Qibao Dwith School forum.
After typing in the keyword "school doctor," she scrolled for a while and surprisingly, she actually found a post about him.
It had been posted anonymously by a student who said she had gone to the infirmary for a stomachache and had run into an unbelievably good looking school doctor.
The girl had written that the moment she saw him, her waist stopped aching, her stomach stopped hurting, and she instantly felt alive again.
That post had actually gone a bit viral back then, but most of the comments underneath were joking about whether the girl’s stomachache had been so bad that she’d started hallucinating.
Apparently, quite a few people went to the ninth floor afterward, looking for that so-called school infirmary. But every single one of them found the door locked tight, there was no trace of any handsome school doctor at all.
It all started to sound more like some kind of ghost story than reality, sending a strange chill through everyone who read it.
In the end, even the girl who wrote the post began to doubt herself. Maybe, she thought, there had been some kind of celebrity filming a show that day and she just happened to run into one of them by chance.
However, Rong Xingyu whose listening to all this was completely confused.
How could they not find him? Wasn’t Dr. Ding always in Room 907?
Before he could think any further, Dr. Ding suddenly looked in his direction.
Even from that distance, their eyes met.
Rong Xingyu could clearly see the shape of the doctor’s lips, he seemed to be calling his name, "Yuyu."
Next to him, Rong Zhenqiao turned to glance at Rong Xingyu as well and subtly gesturing for him to come over.
Rong Xingyu’s heartbeat suddenly quickened.
Could it be that Dr. Ding had actually come here for him?
He said a quick word to his friends and began walking toward Dr. Ding and Rong Zhenqiao, unaware that his steps were light, almost filled with a quiet sense of anticipation.
Soon, he reached the champagne table.
He greeted both men politely, then stood beside Rong Zhenqiao.
His gaze naturally lifted toward the man across from him.
His voice carried a faint cheerful note. "Dr. Ding?"
Ding Yixin smiled slightly and nodded. "Happy birthday," he said warmly. "I came a bit late, I hope you don’t mind."
Only then did Rong Xingyu notice a man standing not far behind Dr. Ding someone dressed like a butler, he’s holding a beautifully wrapped gift in his arms.
Rong Xingyu quickly shook his head. "Thank you, Dr. Ding. Of course I don’t mind." His tone was soft, almost obedient.
Rong Zhenqiao whose watching the exchange cleared his throat deliberately and signaled the butler to take the gift away for now.
With his older brother standing nearby the whole time, Rong Xingyu didn’t dare to speak too freely with Dr. Ding.
Only after Rong Zhenqiao excused himself to deal with something did Rong Xingyu finally turn to the man again.
"Dr. Ding, how did you know today was my birthday?" he asked curiously.
"I received an invitation from your brother earlier," Ding Yixin explained, his gaze lingering on the young man before him. "I wanted to give you a surprise."
Rong Xingyu looked especially striking this evening. He dressed neatly, like a prince from a fairytale. Under the warm lights, there was a quiet brightness about him that drew attention without trying.
Under that steady and unreadable gaze, Rong Xingyu suddenly felt his face heat up.
He couldn’t quite meet the man’s eyes.
His gaze flickered away and landing on the floor, or the tips of his shoes, anywhere else but those deep, searching eyes across from him.
Seeing his shy, flustered expression, a faint shadow passed through Ding Yixin’s eyes, something dark and complicated.
"Yuyu," he said quietly, "you look beautiful tonight."
Rong Xingyu’s head instantly dropped lower, his voice small and flustered. "Th-thank you, Dr. Ding. You... you look good too."
Ding Yixin chuckled softly, his voice is low and warm. "Shall we go for a walk?"
Rong Xingyu nodded lightly and walked alongside Ding Yixin toward the courtyard.
It was the end of December in the capital and the night air had already dropped below freezing.
However, to allow guests to still enjoy an outdoor gathering, the hotel had used some kind of advanced heating system that kept the courtyard comfortably warm despite the winter chill.
Because of that, Rong Xingyu only wore a thick wool coat over his formal suit.
