Chapter 76: A Fever and a Shot
So Rong Xingyu used the break to go to the school clinic.
After knocking and entering, he saw the man in a white coat inside the room.
Rong Xingyu: "..."
Was he addicted to role playing or something?
Ding Yixin looked at Rong Xingyu approaching and raised an eyebrow slightly in surprise.
He pushed his glasses up and asked calmly, "Little student, where do you feel unwell?"
Rong Xingyu: "..."
He sat on the chair and said through clenched teeth, "I have a cold."
Ding Yixin nodded.
He stood up and walked toward Rong Xingyu while holding something in his hand that looked like a thermometer.
"Let’s take your temperature first. Little student, please take off your pants."
Rong Xingyu: "???"
When Rong Xingyu froze right there on the spot, Ding Yixin’s eyes narrowed and his gaze behind the glasses slowly moved downward.
His posture made it look like he would reach for Rong Xingyu’s pants at any moment.
Rong Xingyu: "..."
Rong Xingyu instinctively reached out to hold the waistband of his pants, two large red patches immediately rising on his cheeks.
"N-no, that’s not necessary!"
Don’t bully him just because he hadn’t seen much of the world! What kind of doctor needs someone to take off their pants just to check their temperature?!
Rong Xingyu stammered, "This isn’t the ninth floor... why are you here? Where’s the other school doctor?"
He had not planned to come to Ding Yixin at all.
He came straight to the first floor clinic during the break and the moment he walked in and saw Ding Yixin in a white coat sitting behind the desk, he almost lost all his senses.
Ding Yixin let out a soft laugh and said, "Didn’t I show you my license and the hiring letter? As the school doctor, if I’m not in the school clinic, where else would I be?"
When he heard those words, Rong Xingyu could not help feeling speechless. He muttered quietly, "You really think you’re the school doctor... I think you’re addicted to role playing."
The smile on Ding Yixin’s face grew deeper. He leaned down slightly and looked into Rong Xingyu’s eyes. "Yuyu, what did you say?"
Rong Xingyu’s ears felt a bit hot and he turned his face away. "Nothing."
"Dr. Lin had something to do, so he took the afternoon off. I’m covering for him here for a while." Ding Yixin held Rong Xingyu’s arms with both hands and turned his whole body back to face him.
Seeing how Rong Xingyu’s eyes wandered everywhere except toward him, Ding Yixin cleared his throat and forced down his smile.
Then he lifted his hand and gently placed the back of it on Rong Xingyu’s forehead.
"A slight fever." Feeling the higher-than-normal temperature, Ding Yixin’s smile slowly faded.
Rong Xingyu felt the hand that was slightly cooler than his own skin resting on his forehead and the touch was strangely comforting.
When Ding Yixin’s hand left, a small feeling of reluctance secretly rose in his heart.
Rong Xingyu: "..."
No, no, he must be confused because of the fever.
Ding Yixin told him to wait, then took out a brand-new, unopened mercury thermometer.
He lowered his head and carefully disinfected it, his long fingers holding the thermometer as he gave it a few light shakes.
"Yuyu, be good. Let’s take your temperature first."
Rong Xingyu felt a bit embarrassed.
The tone sounded like someone coaxing a child.
He lifted his head slightly and opened his mouth, his eyes closing without thinking.
His soft and pink tongue trembled a little when it touched the cool air.
Ding Yixin held the thermometer and pressed the end of it against Rong Xingyu’s tongue.
The contrast of silver and red created a sharp visual shock, making Ding Yixin’s eyes darken.
Rong Xingyu only felt the cold object resting on his tongue for a long time without moving. He was just about to open his eyes when he heard Ding Yixin say, "Yuyu, lift your tongue."
For some reason, Ding Yixin’s voice sounded a bit hoarse compared to before.
Rong Xingyu obediently lifted his tongue and pressed the thermometer under it.
"Hold it for three minutes."
When Rong Xingyu opened his eyes again, he saw Ding Yixin sitting behind the desk, looking at him with a soft smile.
He even reminded him, "Be careful. Don’t bite and break it."
Rong Xingyu: "..."
Being stared at like that made Rong Xingyu suddenly feel uncomfortable sitting there.
If he closed his eyes again now, would it look too deliberate?
He thought about it, forget it, forget it, it was only three minutes.
He had no choice but to hold the thermometer in his mouth and count the seconds silently in his mind, hoping the three minutes would pass quickly.
But when the temperature check was finally over, Rong Xingyu almost wished he could keep sitting there with the thermometer.
Because when Ding Yixin took it and looked at the numbers clearly under the sunlight, he frowned and asked Rong Xingyu, "You’ve had a fever for several days already?"
When Rong Xingyu nodded, Ding Yixin asked him for the names of the medicines he had been taking recently.
After that, Ding Yixin shook the thermometer a few more times and put it away.
He looked at Rong Xingyu and said softly, "Yuyu, let me give you a shot."
Rong Xingyu: "..."
Rong Xingyu: "!!!"
He grabbed the corner of his school uniform jacket, his eyes wide as he looked up at Ding Yixin.
The moment he heard the words "give you a shot," he felt his whole body freeze.
Rong Xingyu swallowed his saliva hard and tried to resist. "I—I want to take medicine."
He came to the school clinic exactly because he didn’t want his big brother to drag him for a shot. How did he end up needing one anyway!
Even when he pulled his pants down a little and lay face down on the bed in the school clinic, Rong Xingyu still couldn’t understand why he came here this afternoon to suffer.
