Chapter 23

Chapter 23: Meeting the Tyrant king
A smile curled up Aries’ face at those words. They were exactly what he needed and wanted to hear; all those love confessions were already boring him.
He responded, "Of course, I’d love to. When are we leaving? We should leave now."
"Oh... you want to leave now?" The expression behind those words made Aries uneasy.
But he responded anyway, "Yes. You know I told you about the crazy, tyrant tiger king I escaped from, and who searched for me in the world kingdom, leading to your injury. He learned of the cook’s identity here and seeks to see him, and that’s me. If I go to the palace in the morning, he’ll recognize me, and that’s the end."
"Oh... that’s... really tight," Lucien muttered.
"Yes, and that’s why we need to leave the kingdom and go to yours before anything else. What have you got to take us back?"
"A teleportation device. I’ve got one that is effective, but we can’t leave now or even wait until tomorrow morning, for fear of drifting into the broken plains and charred dimensions."
"What do you mean?" Aries asked, his voice tinged with dejection.
He already suspected where this was leading, but he was still confused. Didn’t the escape protocol say a wolf man? So why was this supposed mate of his not interested in leaving immediately?
"We are in the midnight hours," Lucien explained, "and the plains are always in disorder around this time. The teleportation device I use can’t handle them properly. And since I was previously injured, it would only worsen the situation. Even though my outer wounds have healed, my core is still resting. That means we can’t leave until later in the morning or the afternoon. Also... I have something I need to retrieve here before we leave."
"Fucking hell!" Aries cursed as he heard this, and Lucien was taken off guard. He stared at Aries in absolute shock. "What does that mean?"
"You don’t need to know. So... you mean that you don’t mind me getting tortured again by the tiger king?" Aries asked, trying his best to manipulate the situation, guilt-trip him, and get his own way.
But Lucien said firmly, "Not that. You go, and I’ll be there before he can even touch you."
"Hmmm..." Aries smiled faintly at his words. Well, technically, he wasn’t wrong. If he did everything right, he could buy time from the tiger king until Lucien arrived to rescue him.
He sighed at this conclusion, feeling the weight of the situation. All he wanted now was a place to rest until his beast spell returned.
"Also, you smell really nice, and I want to assume that you’ve concealed this in one way or another, because I can only smell you while I hold you."
"What do you mean?" Aries asked, confused.
"I mean, before, when we were apart, everything was just neutral. But when I hold you, I suddenly notice this sweet scent that lightens my heart and lifts my mood—it just makes me happy, like citrus and honey. Do you know about this?"
’Wait... don’t tell me that the scent veil also has its own stupid limitations.’ Aries literally face-palmed this time, pressing his hand to his forehead.
Lucien saw him this way and moved to cradle him in his embrace, but Aries pushed his hands away.
He suddenly stood up from the bed, wore his cloak, and said, "If there’s nothing for now, I’ll leave."
"Also, you promise to come to the tiger palace and save me tomorrow, right?" he asked.
"Yes, I promise." Luciem responded.
And with that promise, Aries’ mind managed to settle a bit, because he considered himself someone who truly values promises; he assumed and expected Lucien to be that way as well.
After reaching his bedroom, he removed the cloak and had a sound sleep.
The next morning, the sun filtered into the room, waking the one sprawled on the bed. Aries’ eyes squinted open, and he looked to the side of the room—his roommate hadn’t come home last night, and the events that followed flowed into his mind.
He sat upright and began to analyze the situation.
"System, I honestly don’t know what to do and need your advice."
[Host, what do you need?]
’He should truly be a wolf prince, right?’
[Host, Kenzie should truly be a wolf prince. Let’s work out the probability.
[You once met him the first time you entered the pleasure house. He had been in a tiger disguise, but you knew he could be a wolf based on his eye color.]
[He managed to escape to the battlefield to the pleasure house right under the nose of the tiger king and even ordered a huge room and asked personally for you.]
[This means that he isn’t ordinary. For him to be able to enter the pleasure house while fully injured and still interact with the head, and get her to personally get you, means that he is holding a position he claims he does—and he didn’t even tell you more.]
[Probably, he is the boss of your boss and thus has control over the pleasure house.]
[He is a prince, as he claimed.]
[And you are his mate, as he claimed.]
[That is why he could request you after just one encounter and personally describe you to your boss.]
[With all this, there is around a 70–95% probability that he’s telling the truth and that he is the one referenced by the escape protocol.]
’Oh... just as I thought. And then, do you think I can be saved from the tiger king or not? I presume you also don’t want me to begin the journey with the tyrant king, do you?’
[Host, you need to understand that I do not arrange events that happen during your stay here, and there isn’t what or where I would want you to do. But there are things I know are good and not good.]
[The tiger king is a tyrant, but still part of the Lords you need to conquer and increase their love meter.]
[It will be a hard mission, so I’ll encourage that the system be been upgraded to a higher level so that you can confidently tackle him and break the defenses around his heart.]
[Do those that are simple and less dangerous for now, until you can handle the dangerous ones.]
[And that’s why the wolf territory seems easier for now in terms of culture, as you say. And as it stands, you know a bit about them, so you’ll be able to survive there.]]
"I should. And of course, I know a bit about them—I watched Teen Wolf. Werewolf dramas were something I liked," Aries muttered as he replied to the system.
"So, as it stands, I’ll dress up and go meet the king."
And with that, Aries had a quick bath, dressed in the decent clothes he had acquired since arriving at the pleasure house and adapting to his new role, and then left the room.
As Aries stepped out, he was suddenly met by madam Barris in front of the door. She looked at him and said, "Good. I was just about to get you."
"Yeah. We can get going now," he replied.
For the first time in weeks, Aries left the pleasure house—his safe haven. The clouded air of the tiger kingdom surged into his nose, and he sighed slightly.
Their journey to the palace was brisk; the pleasure house was just a few streets away, and they traveled by carriage. Madam Barris, someone who had never been acquainted with the palace, was happy to be entering on her second visit.
Aries straightened and stood before the great hall of the tiger king. He had just finished meeting with some necessary ministers they encountered on the way to the hall.
As he stood before the hall, he made sure to analyze everything about himself. From the beast veil to the scent veil, he ensured all were functioning correctly, and he made sure his illusion cloak was nearby so he could use it if necessary.
Soon, he stepped foot inside the hall—without Madam Barris. She had said the king had been annoyed the previous time, so she would not risk accompanying him again.
He stood before the hall and announced who he was: "I’m the chef whom the king wishes to see."
The doors opened, and he stepped inside. Behind him, one of the guards announced his entry.
"The Culinary Cub enters the hall!"
Aries kept his head bowed, eyes fixed to the ground. He walked to the center of the hall and stopped. Then, bowing deeply, he said, "Good day, Your Highness. I’m the chef you requested to see."
And nothing happened. Silence filled the hall. Aries was almost tempted to raise his head and potentially ruin everything, but then Ravien said, "I don’t really care who you are, only what you do. Go back and make a meal, then present it to me."
