Yveline knew she probably wouldn't survive the day. First, she endured the torment of the Soul Leech for so long, then used the Blood Shield that damaged her core, and now she was injured by the Tainted Beast Soldier. On top of that, the backlash from the contract had left her with almost every debuff imaginable.
Before dying, she wanted an answer.
"Is Luxe okay?" she asked.
Luxe was her only friend back in Andarheim, the underground kingdom of the Dark Elves, and also her female lover. Behind every sadist, there's a masochist who silently endures.
Luxe was the latter.
It was Luxe who encouraged Yveline to defy her predetermined fate and resist the Lord of Night, Svartalf.
When Yveline was imprisoned with broken limbs, it was Luxe's support that kept her alive until Synlos responded to her pleas.
Later, when she escaped and was hunted down, Luxe, who helped her flee, was dragged back by the guards.
According to Dark Elf law, she would have died horribly. In Yveline's view, Luxe was already dead, so she never told anyone about it.
But now, Luxe's name appeared from the mouth of a Half-Elf who could never have walked out of Andarheim alive. There was only one possibility...
He had really seen Luxe or knew her whereabouts!
At this point, the Dark Elf was calmer than ever, desperately guessing what the other party wanted, trying to exchange for the answer.
"I can tell you the location of the monster nests nearby, and the hidden points of the monster dark stakes I've placed in various villages and towns in the name of the Dark Brotherhood, as long as you tell me Luxe's whereabouts."
"But I'm not interested in those."
"Then what are you interested in?" Yveline sneered, "Are you interested in me? If your female companion doesn't mind, there's still time."
"I'm only mildly interested in you now," Xia Ya sighed, "I still prefer the Yveline who ran through the forest bathed in the morning light."
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
Yveline frowned.
The intimate address made her nauseous, and she had never run through the forest bathed in the morning light.
How ridiculous, a filthy Dark Elf, how could she appear in such a sacred place?
"There will be a chance," Xia Ya smiled, "Back to the point, do you still have enough magic to summon a Glutton Fiend?"
"Enough, so what?"
"Do as I say."
"And then you'll tell me Luxe's whereabouts?"
"Yes."
Reason told the Dark Elf this was impossible, but she still held on to hope.
Even if he was lying to her, hearing good news before dying would allow her to die with a smile.
Luxe was her last barrier between her and the Abyss.
"Okay, I'll do as you say."
The stubbornness in the Dark Elf's eyes softened, gradually igniting a spark of hope.
Xia Ya clicked his tongue.
Even though he had repeated this many times, Yveline's longing gaze still made him sigh.
This character was far more tragic than the NPCs in the Starter Village.
Luxe was indeed alive, not only alive but had become the queen of Andarheim.
This elf named Luxe was a complete schemer.
From the beginning, she coveted Yveline's candidate status, so she desperately got close to her, encouraged and incited her to rebel against Dark Elf traditions, to pursue freedom, trying to get her killed.
But later, Yveline didn't die; instead, she became a follower of Synlos, so Luxe hurriedly planned a jailbreak to let her escape.
After being caught, Luxe didn't suffer any punishment but instead replaced Yveline as the candidate offered to Svartalf.
In the end, this woman miraculously survived and became queen.
A year later, upon learning that Yveline was still alive, she disguised herself and approached Yveline, attempting to assassinate her personally.
Because she understood that what the Lord of Night desired most was Yveline; other characters were just foils. However, Yveline always resisted the Lord of Night and ultimately became a follower of Synlos.
Though the Lord of Night was powerful, in front of the Destroyer of Worlds, he was nothing but a weakling, forced to swallow his pride.
If Svartalf knew what she had done, the Lord of Night would surely kill her.
So Luxe tried to silence Yveline.
But Yveline knew none of this.
In her heart, Luxe was still the embodiment of an angel, the last bastion of true goodness and beauty in the world, and the final low wall preventing her from fully falling into the Abyss.
While Xia Ya was lost in thought, Yveline summoned a level 20 Glutton Fiend.
This creature looked like a moving pitcher plant, with dense teeth and a pair of small fleshy wings on its back. As soon as it landed, it frantically bit the air, but Yveline controlled it.
"Is that enough?"
Xia Ya nodded, "Don't move yet, summon a Mana Lamprey and a Tainted Blood Leech."
"You... sigh, fine."
Yveline frowned, but under Xia Ya's undeniable gaze, she complied.
What Xia Ya asked for were low-level summoning tricks, not consuming much magic, though she was nearing her limit.
She sighed, feeling like a clown, helplessly continuing the performance.
A twisted Mana Lamprey and an even more twisted Tainted Blood Leech appeared.
"Have the Glutton Fiend eat them."
Yveline did as told.
The Glutton Fiend's stomach took up 70% of its body, and now the Tainted Blood Leech and Mana Lamprey were writhing and biting inside it, causing the Glutton Fiend to roll on the ground in pain.
"Start a fire."
Boom.
The flames rose.
"Then..."
Xia Ya quickly recited four or five more steps, and gradually, the impatience in Yveline's eyes disappeared. She vaguely realized that he seemed to be conducting a complex alchemical experiment.
With everything prepared, the Glutton Fiend, having consumed a bellyful of monsters, appeared drunk, its tongue hanging out.
It was held in the mouth of a Giant-Maw Devil Vine, oblivious, while the vine soaked in boiling tainted blood, equally unaware of its predicament.
Snap.
Xia Ya snapped his fingers, as if completing a major project.
"Finally, drop a single drop of blood into the Glutton Fiend's mouth. Your blood."
This novel is available on "pawread.com".
Yveline complied.
Then she stared intently at the Glutton Fiend.
Even if he was playing her, witnessing such an interesting experiment in her final moments was better than dying at the hands of the Soul Leech.
The dark purple blood dripped in, seemingly breaking some balance, causing the intricate structure to collapse.
The Glutton Fiend's belly suddenly swelled, and the Giant-Maw Devil Vine immediately opened its mouth, swallowing it whole.
Boom.
The Glutton Fiend exploded inside its mouth with a muffled sound, but it was contained, not a drop spilling out.
The Giant-Maw Devil Vine was severely injured, its surface cracking, with dark green sap mixed with black liquid seeping from its body, flowing into the boiling tainted blood, intertwining...
Under the distillation of the flames, the mixture rapidly condensed, seemingly generating some suction, extracting the essence of all the substances, ultimately merging into a fist-sized blob of viscous material.
"Here, drink it," Xia Ya said.
Yveline frowned, finally steeling herself to drink it.
After all, she wouldn't survive anyway.
A few seconds after drinking, her eyes widened in shock!
She stared blankly at Xia Ya:
"How did you do it?"
"That's a secret."
Xia Ya smiled.
Simultaneously, the system prompt appeared:
[Yveline's favorability towards you increased by 75,000, Hatred → Neutral]
