Chapter 377: I Don’t Wanna Keep Living In Pain
[KOSTA]
"Yeah.... But I am heading to the palace for a meeting. If Nana got Erasthais for Tamiko to choose from, I don’t see a problem with me going to the meeting smelling like you, right?
"If they want to be traitors and play that game, then I might as well walk in smelling like the one they hate the most," Kosta said casually, and this time it was Sanji’s turn to laugh at the absurdity.
This was peak insanity.
But then, pain always had a way of ruining the most special of bonds.
"Just so we’re clear, you want to go to the place. The Kawai palace. Smelling like ME?" Sanji asked as he ran a frustrated hand through his hair. He hated what he had made of Kosta.
He hated the pain that this man was going through, and for a moment, he wanted to regret letting him lead on him like this. If Kosta did this, there was no coming back from it.
There would be so many things triggered, and yet in his pain, the Lycan Chief didn’t care for a thing. All he wanted was to feel an end to the pain he had. All he needed was the end.
He was desperate for it.
It was almost like an addiction, and having started the way to get through it, Kosta wasn’t going to stop. So, Sanji just watched in silence as Kosta stared at him defiantly.
For a moment, it was almost like they were just two friends who had been talking about plans to an end that had nothing for them to gain. But then the whispers were not stopping, not that Kosta was bothered about them.
"Yup. I’ll be quick and make them think that I am coming home to you. If you like, you can spend the rest of the evening in my shelter. And you can cook just to keep the narrative going.
"I eat almost anything, so that shouldn’t be a worry for you," Kosta said, and Snail felt his heart tingling for the Lycan.
This operation was crazy.
He had never felt this kind of sorry for anyone. And now he was feeling sorry for his enemy. The one man who could easily swing his sword and murder him in an instant. Maybe Sanji needed to stop overthinking it.
"I guess this is the part where I tell you a bit loudly that I will be waiting for you to come home, eh?" Sanji asked, and Kosta just smiled like Sanji was already into character.
It was surreal, but there was nothing unusual about what Kosta had been dealing with. Betrayal was the one thing he hated the most, and yet the one that had betrayed him the worst was seated at the palace dining happily while Kosta was suffering over here.
This was not something that he would accept with ease.
"... And the part where I respond so softly by leaning our foreheads together," Kosta said, doing just what he had said.
He didn’t care about the eyes on them anymore.
Sanji had helped him through the first few stages, so when Kosta leaned in and kissed Sanji’s cheek, they stood there like it was nothing. Igor then excused himself and left for the palace.
He may not have been to battle in the past few weeks, but he was a Lycan Chief, and the king had summoned the ministers and him for a meeting. He would be there, even if his heart had been shattered to pieces over and over in the past ten years.
He couldn’t stop, not for the royals and definitely not for Tamiko.
"Goddess help me," Kosta mumbled before he muted out everyone who was around him, and he made his way to the palace. He knew they were looking at him and wanted a piece of him.
He knew that he was being watched, but everyone who was in the palace and beyond, but he didn’t care. He was the chief they had wanted him to be. And even if he was an omega, he had to come to the palace.
This time, he had the worst scent on him. The woody scent that pissed off everyone in Kawai, and yet when mixed with Kosta’s caramel scent it seemed better. Even then, that didn’t make it any better.
And Kosta knew it too.
If it had been someone in his place doing this, Kosta would have long had their head. Well, to be fair, he had wanted to take his life, but Tamiko had made sure that he lived eternally to suffer through everything.
So, what was the point of this, right?
He would be there, always anyway.
"Holy sh— Chief?" Kiyoi, the palace chef, asked in shock Kosta walked into the kitchen. He hadn’t expected the man who had been absent for two weeks to just show up, and that too like he had stepped out of a Kawai fashion walk.
He looked drop-dead gorgeous, a stark contrast to the warrior Lycan Chief they had always known. He looked like he belonged on tables with the higher Lords who would do anything to please him.
He looked like he could ask anything of the rulers, and they would beg him to take them along. He was perfect, and they could see it too.
"Hello, Kiyoi. Can I please have a cup of water?" Kosta requested, his voice genuine and yet at the same time, it held a warning against them saying anything about him today. He didn’t want to deal with anyone.
Kiyoi was still in shock even as Sanji’s scent filtered through and made them all uneasy. They were not sure what the fuck the Chief was doing, but Kiyoi hoped that this was for the best.
The palace had heard of the propositions that the Lycan prince was constantly being sent, and while the prince never once looked at those propositions or even the women who went to him or even the men, the defiant omega here didn’t know about it.
He didn’t care anymore.
He had stopped caring after the first year had passed, and Tamiko hadn’t come looking for him.
"Are you alright?" Kiyoi dared to ask, not letting his eyes rake the Lycan Chief’s body, which was tempting for everyone. He didn’t want his head off his neck right now, and he knew that that was the one fate that would befall him if Igor was displeased with him.
"I feel like shit, but it’s nothing new," Kosta said honestly, surprising the kitchen staff.
Hell, he surprised himself too, but then what the fuck was he supposed to do? They couldn’t help him anyway. And the one person who could help had refused to pay any attention to him.
"Thank you... Have a good day," Kosta said earnestly as he stepped out of the kitchen, his cup in his hand, and walked the hallways to the council room. He could still feel the glares, but they no longer bothered him.
This was his cursed fate, and he wasn’t going to fight it anymore. He was tired.
"Sorry, I’m late. I had a few issues to take care of in the acquired lands," Kosta voiced when he pushed open the door to the council room and found everyone there seated, waiting for him.
And when he heard gasps, he smirked knowingly.
