Chapter 382: Save Your Advice, ’cause I Won’t Hear
[TAMIKO]
"He is coming to the meeting," King Zaffuto said, and for a long time, Tamiko stared at his father like the man wasn’t being serious. Of course, Kosta was the Lycan Chief. Granted, he hadn’t been seen for the past two weeks, but he was always dutiful.
The meetings that he hadn’t come to hadn’t exactly been crucial like the one today, and Tamiko knew that, too. What his father was suggesting wasn’t out of the ordinary. It was expected, and nothing would ever change Tamiko’s mind right now.
"So, you did know about what he’s been doing, and you didn’t think to stop Yilena? The only reason I never killed her was because I didn’t want you to lose your sister, Papa. I didn’t want you to lose someone else. And I paid the price for it, didn’t I?
"Even to this day, she still has the cards over Kosta’s life. She says she is his guardian, but lets him hurt. Lets me hurt. I will find a way to get my Erasthai back, Papa. Goddess help the soul that tries to stop me from having him.
"I waited for ten years, so if anyone tries to stop me, I will burn you all," Tamiko promised, and his father smiled at him sadly. He wanted to tell him that eternity was too long a time, but Zaffuto understood.
He would have gone crazy if someone did that with his Liana, so he watched as his son walked out of the throne room, his determination fierce, and the only thing the king could think of was how Tamiko had really been the best version of him.
A controlled Hinata was almost a myth, and yet Tamiko embodied so much control despite all that he had had to go through. Perhaps the meeting would show him just how much control Tamiko had, right?
"Brother," Danny said to Tamiko when the prince stepped out of the throne room.
"What is it, Danny?" Tamiko asked, his tone softer.
He wanted to lash out at his best friend, but that just wouldn’t be fair. The man had shifted packs for him, and it would not be right to let out his frustrations to the one person who had been there through and through.
Danny was innocent in all of this, and he hoped that he would understand that Tamiko needed to do some things.
"Igor embraced his omega side. It’s not just that. He... he let HIM scent him," Danny let out in a whisper, like he was scared of what Tamiko would say to that. But then Tamiko already knew it all.
He had witnessed it from the palace.
He hated his sharp eagle eyes and blamed himself for the patience he had exhibited. He let them manipulate him into believing that this was what was best for them, and Tamiko wasn’t about to let someone take his Erasthai from him again.
"Ten years of loneliness can do that to a person," Tamiko said casually as he walked alongside Danny to the council room. The meeting was soon to start, and they all needed to be there.
However, Danny wasn’t buying into this new persona that Tamiko was having.
"You’re going to just... You can’t be serious. Aren’t you supposed to be special or something?" Danny asked and Tamiko sighed defeatedly. He wanted to know how to go about this but he couldn’t exactly ask his father about it.
It was driving him insane but he needed to get his act together.
"That’s his choice, Danny. I was the one who left. I abandoned him. I let him go when I told everyone he was free to mate with another. I can’t be judging his choices right now," Tamiko said passively as the doors to the council room opened.
The council members are already seated along with his father and Lord Sadako. It wasn’t even surprising that the king had portaled to the council room. Maybe he was worried Tamiko would truly burn down Kawai, but there, that wasn’t even a far stretch.
The king knew his son wasn’t playing, and if he was being honest, he was going to give Tamiko the matchstick and gasoline, if that was all this was needed to start the fire.
"You’re impossible," Danny sighed as they walked in, and Tamiko sat at the head of the table.
"Chief Kostantin isn’t here yet, so we can’t begin," Floki, one of the ministers, said.
Tamiko just nodded. There wasn’t much he would do if his princes wanted to come in later. He didn’t want to cause a ruckus because he had fucked up already and this was probably his punishment.
So, he spent the time waiting for Kosta, staring at the majestic seat that Kosta had demanded be shifted to the farthest end of the table, away from everyone. Hs Erasthai didn’t want to be close to him, and Tamiko’s heart ached for Kosta.
He wanted to apologize, but ten years was a long time. No amount of apology or excuse could explain why he had let himself be screwed over like that. He couldn’t even defend whatever he had done in Kosta’s absence, and he needed to own up to it.
Well, all was going well as far as his loneliness and regret were concerned. But that was until the door to the throne room opened an hour later, and through it walked Igor Kostantin, looking worse than sin.
"Sorry, I’m late. I had a few issues to take care of in the acquired lands," Kosta voiced when he pushed open the door to the council room and found everyone there seated, waiting for him.
And when he heard gasps, he smirked knowingly.
But that wasn’t what Tamiko was focused on. It was the scent. The damn scent that confirmed all of Tamiko’s irate fears. The scent that reminded Tamiko that he had played the worst hand in all of history when he let Kosta go.
Then again, what the fuck should he have done?
Strung the man along like he didn’t already feel the emptiness in his system?
Tamiko was tense as he watched his Erasthai. That which was supposed to be his was currently draped in the traitor’s scent, and the worst part of it all was that Kosta was proud of it.
It was almost like this was the best thing he had ever done in his life, and Tamiko felt like puking his guts out. This was not what he had been thinking of, and certainly everyone else shared the same opinion.
This was absurd, and yet Igor Kostantin sat here pretty with a cup in his hand like he didn’t just drive everyone nuts. For a moment, Tamiko wondered if the Lycan Chief was intoxicated, but then the cup had water.
Which meant that Kosta was telling them all that he had made all of his decisions in a sober mind. That he had decided to pay back what had been done to him while he was sober, and everyone would know that he had made his decision.
But Tamiko could smell the pain his Erasthai was feeling. He could smell the hurt and the rage underneath the fucking woody scent that had blended with Kosta’s caramel scent.
It took everything in Tamiko not to drag Kosta to the nearest shower and clean that scent off of him.
He didn’t have that power over Kosta anymore. He had given it up and now he had to watch from the sidelines like a creep who wasn’t sure what the fuck life was supposed to be.
So, Tamiko struggled to compose himself by not looking at Kosta. This was the only way he would focus, because otherwise he would tear through the ministers and go on his knees and beg Kosta for forgiveness for the rest of his life, if he had to do it forever.
’Fuck,’ Tamiko cursed when he realized that Kosta wasn’t even trying to seek him out. It was a gesture that made him seethe. How the fuck had Kosta moved on so fast? But was ten years a fast pace?
Ten years was almost half the time he had spent in Grealor, so it wasn’t a little. This was the devil they had created and boy had he come to haunt the fuck out of them— most especially Tamiko. Perhaps there was a way, wasn’t there?
"Apology accepted. Now sit and we shall continue," King Zaffuto spoke, his voice strained like he was fighting every ounce of rage in him not to lash out at the man he trusted.
