Chapter 392: Can’t Change My Awkward Timing
[KOSTA]
Ten years.
That was how long it had been;
Since Igor had gone back home to his guardian.
Before he even thought about going to see her.
And now that he was walking the road back home, he wasn’t even doing it because he had missed her.
He was doing it because she had the answers that he desperately needed. Answers that could change the trajectory of his life in so many ways, possibly forever too. This was that time when he wasn’t sure if he would get what he was going to seek.
Yet at the same time, he had to set aside his ego because, on the other side, he would be the only one who lost. And that was the one thing that he refused to do. Not after the way that he had lost Tamiko.
Yilena had promised him that things would be alright when he stepped away, and now what was happening and there wasn’t even so much as a trace of the onerous he had sacrificed everything for.
Now that Kosta walked the lonely roads, he couldn’t even see why he had given in to Yilena’s threats. He should have stood his ground. He should have told her to fuck off and he should have figured out another way through this.
He should have insisted on fighting for what he believed in, for what he loved the most.
His reluctance had cost him ten years of happiness. Worse, there was nothing, absolutely nothing, that he could show for the ten years other than the horrible fact that he had been rejected and set free.
He had been cast aside in the worst of ways and he couldn’t even fight against the rejection because the mark had faded. He was alone. Completely and utterly alone in the shell of his own making.
Gods, he really should have fought for Tamiko back then.
Maybe they would have had a different outcome.
Maybe the timelines would have been kinder.
But then regret had become a favorable companion for Igor Konstantin lately. Perhaps that was why he was not scared of what he would meet if he ever got to his guardian. After all, there was nothing left that he could lose anyway, right?
"You’re not going to the palace?" Akila asked Kosta when the Lycan chief was heading towards his home. It was almost expected after all the time that Kosta had spent away from home, but the look on Akila’s face talked of something else.
Almost like this was a realization that they couldn’t quite handle at the moment.
Perhaps it was too much of a risk and they needed to understand what the latkes were at this point. But perhaps Kosta just needed to listen to his friend because maybe this was his saving grace, right?
"Why would I? The meeting ended early in the morning, it’s not like there were any interesting shots to find there," Kosta said.
Akila understood him.
Since Tamiko disappeared, there wasn’t much activity at the palace. It was like they were slowly shutting down and everyone could see it, yet no one had the guts to ask why it was happening.
Kosta wanted answers and Yilena had them.
Yilena was going to give him an explanation for whatever the hell was happening.
"There is news about the prince," Akila said, her sword careful that for a moment Kosta almost didn’t believe him.
He didn’t have a reason to.
Akila had been trying to get him to patch up the mess with his guardian for years now and there was a chance that this was just one of those. Perhaps it was too much for them to consider at the moment, but what the hell, right?
Oh, how Kosta didn’t want to be strung along again.
"I’m not going. You knew I was headed to Yilena and you know that there is a chance that I might fight with her. This is just you trying to play it safe and I’m not buying it," Kosta said as he kept going towards his home.
However, as they walked, he noticed the sour faces that walked past him. They were not looking at him, no. It was like they had heard some terrible news and they were not yet sure how to process it all just yet.
Perhaps that was the one thing that had Kosta reconsidering listening to Akila.
He was frustrated, sure, but he also had questions that needed answers.
"What the hell is wrong with everyone?" Kosta sighed as he looked at Akila who was just shouting at him.
There was an unspoken silence between them before Kosta figured that perhaps Akila was waiting for him to agree or do something before they could leave. After all, this was all dependent on what Koa was feeling at the moment.
If the Lycan chief decided to not make a move, then even Akila wouldn’t do shit.
That was their little truth at the moment, either way.
"I still think we should go to the palace. It would make it easier to get answers there. Besides, the forbidden hallway was opened, and people were allowed to walk there. You know what that means, right?" Akila said.
Kosta stilled.
This was not supposed to happen.
This was not how he had wanted to go back.
This was not what he had been going for.
Yet as he stared into Akila’s worried eyes, Kosta couldn’t deny the fact that there was a probability that the greatest fear had come to fruition. And that was the worst possible thing that could happen to him at this point.
Maybe going to the palace wasn’t such a bad idea after all, right?
"Fuck," Kosta groaned before he created a portal ad went through it with Alika following right behind him.
The palace was filled with whispers that didn’t make sense for a moment. Kosta hadn’t expected the crowd in the palace given the fact that he had never truly seen such a crowd since the time the queen was murdered.
It had been a lonely crowd at the time and that feeling was almost similar, something scared Kosta to the core. This was a terrible dream. That was the only thing he was going to say to this.
It was his nightmare again.
Maybe he was sleeping and all the fears that he had been holding onto since the last time he had seen Tamika dh started taking form. That had to be what was happening because there was just no way that this was real.
It couldn’t be.
It was not right.
And Kosta was losing his shit over this.
"What is the king going to do now?"
"That was his heir."
"Are we going to go back to the dark days of Kawai?"
"What if this happened because he lost Chief Konstantin?"
There were so many questions that lingered among the whispers.
But that last one had to be the one that fucked with Kosta the most.
That had to be the reminder that Kosta needed to remember what his guardian had told him years ago when they had made the agreement.
...When Yilena herself had acknowledged the fact that Kosta and Tamiko had loved each other with a love that was unbreakable, a love that was so possessive and dangerous at the same time.
Now, he was straight the mess and all he could think of was Yilena’s horrifying words.
"Hinatas only fall in love once in their lives. You’re his love" Yilena had said to Kosta back then and Kosta hadn’t paid too much attention to that statement because he knew Tamiko loved him.
There was nothing to worry about.
Their future seemed brighter that evening even after what had happened.
Kosta had been so sure they would find their way back to each other.
Unfortunately, they really had found their way back to each other, only for them to go their separate ways. It was a cruel fate that had been bestowed upon them, and now Kosta couldn’t understand the first thing about the crowd at the palace.
"What happened here?" Kosta voiced as he made his way through the crowd. Actually, everyone gave way to him. It was like they had known and expected him to be here at this moment.
But when Kosta reached the source of the commotion, the Lycan chief felt the life leave him. All his fears had come to life and all he was left with was a shell that he couldn’t even turn to the hardest times.
And at that time, the Lycan chief knew that he would never, ever, get Tamiko back.
And it hurt worse than hell.
