Chapter 414

Chapter 414: I Can’t Breathe, It’s All Your Fault
[TAMIKO]
"Yes! It is the truth, isn’t it? I don’t need you defending me! What part of that do you not understand?" Kosta cried out defeatedly.
He didn’t need a defender.
He needed trust; he needed to be loved. To be held.
Sure, the circumstances hadn’t exactly been the kindest for them, but they could work it through, right? They loved each other, even as their hearts bled. Everyone could see that, so why was it so hard for them to be on the same page?
Why was it an uphill task when they didn’t even need to have it like this?
"What do you want me to do then, huh? Watch you fight everyone while I stand and wait like a maiden waiting for her husband to come from the war? Is that what this is supposed to be?
"What the fuck is the use of my status if I cannot use it to fight for you?!" Tamiko asked angrily. He was tired of being on the opposite side of Kosta. This was supposed to be some mission for them to come to battle and eliminate their enemies.
It was always that simple, but now it felt like they were fighting the worst of the worst. That they were not fighting the Grealor invaders, but against themselves, which was even harder for Tamiko, because all he ever wanted was for his Kosta to be happy.
It hurt.
Gods, everything hurt, and Tamiko detested it all.
"This is not supposed to be about me! This is about Kawai, Tamiko!" Kosta shouted, silencing the entire battleground.
No one had expected them to be that loud, but even worse, what they would be fighting about. This was a battle for the Lycan Chief, the royal omega of Kawai, for the protection of their people, the people of Kawai.
This was insanity to say the least, and honestly, everyone was too shocked to ever say anything. It was like they were watching a love story that was currently having its standards in the deepest darkest pits of hell.
The royals stared in shock at the sight before them.
It was unbelievable to say the least.
"What is going on now?" King Zaffuto asked as he looked in the direction of the sound. This wasn’t how he wanted the day to be, but the fact that most of them were on one side and Tamiko on the other should have reminded him of how high the stakes were.
"This is so not good," Danny said as he rushed to where Kosta and Tamiko were. The Lycan Lord Sadako and the mad king followed suit, even though there was a crowd gathering around the prince and his Erasthai.
It was a spectacle.
But nothing was as soul-crushing as the sight that met the royals there. This was not something they would talk the duo out of, and the way it was all panning out was heart-shattering.
"Be ready," was all Lord Sadako said as he watched the broken hearts before them.
"Kawai, you say?" Tamiko laughed humorlessly.
"Yes! Our people! You’re their prince! You can’t throw away the battle for one person!" Kosta begged, and Tamiko, for all he believed in, stared at the Lycan chief like the man had seriously lost his mind all the time he had spent with Sanji.
He wondered if bringing Sanji back to life would explain what sort of madness this was, because there was no way that this Kosta was acting like he was not aware of what the stakes were at the moment.
This couldn’t be their new reality.
This couldn’t be what they were fighting over, and Tamiko loathed it. He was even tired of explaining the situation at hand, because what was the point of all this if they were just going to fight each other while the world watched?
What was the point when they were still proving to each other how out of touch they were?
Tamiko could already feel the Grealors mocking them and what they believed in.
He could imagine the smirk on Gabriel’s face at the realization that, truly, they had gone soft on each other and that the battlefield was nothing more than a confrontational space for them and not a space where they had to eliminate their enemies.
The reality was fucked up, and Tamiko was too worn out to deal with this. He was just a boy who had been protective over a man he loved with all he had; surely Kosta couldn’t be faulting him for loving him openly and brazenly, right?
"I am not throwing away the battle, Kosta. I am defending the love of my life. You think I don’t want to see you fight and win battles again? You think I don’t want to see you be the man you have always been?
"You think I don’t want to hear you went to battle and won without me? You think that is what this is?" Tamiko asked, the disbelief evident.
They had already differed enough over the years, and he just didn’t understand why they still had to suffer through misunderstandings.
Love was all Tamiko had, and Kosta was the only one he could give it to.
Was it bad that Tamiko wasn’t shying away from defending the love of his life like that?
Was it such a bad choice that the prince had made?
This was not fair, but the lines were starting to get a bit blurry with every moment that passed, because surely this couldn’t be the love they had fought for over the years.
Something had to give.
Something had to make sense.
But there wasn’t much of that at the moment.
It was like they only had each other to fight, and gods, was it even more heartbreaking. What the hell was this supposed to mean for them then?
For their enemies, it wasn’t ever debatable right now. They had already proven that they were weak for each other and that the prince was nothing more than a weakling when it came to Kosta.
Maybe it was something to be ashamed of, but Tamiko stood with his head high like this was never going to be the end of them.
Gods, he was a frustrated prince.
"Then why are you suffocating me, Tamiko?" Kosta asked hoarsely and defeatedly.
Tamiko flinched.
Of all the things that he could have expected from Kosta, this was not it. And fuck it if the world ended now, Tamiko was more than ready to ship himself to hell without causing any ruckus.
Was this where their story ended?
Was this how it ended for them after all they had been through together? Was fate cruel enough to abandon them like this?
The world was unfair.
But nothing was more unfair than their love.
Fuck.
"Suffo... I... I’m suffocating you?" Tamiko asked in disbelief.
He felt like he had been gut-punched and stabbed a thousand times, only that he couldn’t see the blood, and boy did it hurt more than Tamiko ever thought possible.
At the same time, the prince never imagined that the love of his life would declare his love so suffocating.
The hush around them was making it all worse, because this would have been easier if the entire battlefield had remained fighting when they talked, but now they were a spectacle.
Tamiko’s love was a spectacle that no one even found hilarious, making it the worst bit of it all.
He was truly a clown in love, wasn’t he?
