Chapter 416: On My Knees, Willingly Bleeding For You
[TAMIKO]
"You don’t mean that," Kosta said, and Tamiko sighed lightly.
"I can’t live in a world that hurts you, Kosta. It is worse than living in a world without you. I keep trying to make things better between us, but nothing I do seems to be enough, does it?" Tamiko scoffed in disbelief.
Tamiko then threw down his sword, something that had the entire battlefield once again shocked.
There was no way anyone would have thought that the prince, the broken prince, the man whose name was enough to terrify the entire realm into submission, had set down his sword, that too on a battlefield that had his enemies ready to strike him down.
It made no sense.
And it was also something that had everyone staring at Kosta like this was his fault, but Tamiko didn’t see it like that.
All he saw was a chance to set his Erasthai free.
A world without Kosta was cruel.
A world that hurt Kosta was insane.
The only way to make sure Kosta was free and no longer hunted was if Tamiko left.
Maybe that was what the prince intended to do after so many years, right? Maybe he would leave for another realm, no? Maybe he would go back to being a slave in Grealor. Maybe he would be a Lycan in exile with nothing to live for.
Maybe that was a fate that was befitting for him, no?
Perhaps that was what he had strived for after all this time.
"No way... did he just..." Gabe asked as he watched everything unfold.
It made no sense for Tamiko to let down his sword. It was a reckless decision that could cost him so much. This was not the time to be brave and shit, but fuck was it hard to understand what Tamiko was thinking at the moment.
"What the fuck are you doing?" Kosta asked, gripping his sword tighter, like he was preparing to fight everyone for Tamiko.
This was not his plan, truly.
All he had wanted was to be free, but now he was staring at a pliant prince, ready to obviously lay down his life for Kosta, which wasn’t what Kosta had wanted for them. He needed the prince to be beside him.
Not to be gone from his life.
What the hell kind of shit had they had to deal with now?
"As long as I hold that sword, Kosta, I will cut down everyone who tries to hurt you. As long as I live, there will be enemies who will want to hurt me through you. You’re not a weakness, my precious.
"You’re just a gem that everyone wants to exploit," Tamiko began, like he was staring at the most beautiful thing he had ever laid his eyes on. And perhaps that was his truth.
Because for Tamiko, Kosta was worth everything.
The crown.
The realm.
Kosta was worth it all.
He was worth every decision Tamiko made, and right now, Tamiko was being honest with him. Maybe their love was suffocating, but Tamiko was letting Kosta understand what this meant.
It was so hard for him to stand back. He couldn’t handle that. He couldn’t let anyone come close to the love of his life either way. So, if this had to end, then it only worked in one way.
Kosta stared in shock.
"What is wrong with you?" Kosta asked in a whisper.
"You can end this, Kosta. The suffocation, the endless murders I will continue to commit in your name. The endless kingdoms I will burn in your name. You can save them all in this instant.
"You can make them all survive, even if they don’t know it. Hell, you can be the reason all the warriors go home and bury their dead instead of leaving here as corpses," Tamiko chuckled lightly like he was talking about the weather.
Then again, he was not even trying to fight anymore.
He was just being honest.
And his honesty was toe-curling more than the threats he always made in Kosta’s name.
Maybe that was what made him the mad prince, but that didn’t matter to him, because as long as Kosta was happy, Tamiko would always be happy. It was his only truth and light.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Kosta asked, still not sure he was ready to comprehend what this was and what it would mean for him in front of all these people.
"Their lives are in your hands, my little love," Tamiko said as he pushed his sword further from him. He grabbed his twin blades and threw them in the direction of the word.
The warriors watched as Tamiko got out knives and pins that he would use in battle and set them aside, firing a little mountain of weapons right where his word was.
This was dangerous.
But Tamiko had made his decision.
He was not going to compromise anymore. T
The only way to stop this is if Kosta stopped it all.
"You’re crazy. What the fuck is wrong with you?" Kosta sighed in defeat.
"I am crazy, Kosta. You’re right, you know. I will never stop killing in your name, and I know that brings you so much shame and discontent. But sweetheart, I found a way around it, you know," Tamiko said, before he went on his knees right in front of Kosta.
It was a sight that no one had expected.
The shocked faces on the battlefield were proof of how unexpected this was. None of them had thought to wander into such cruelty and a mess, but now the opposite was happening.
Instead of Kosta being the one who was brought down, it was the crown prince.
The deadliest weapon the mad king had in his arsenal had laid his weapons down; he had stepped aside in battle, and even worse, he was on his knees.
Not because he was forced by the Grealor warriors.
Not because his former mate wanted him to kneel to save Kosta. Oh, but Tamiko would have done that without question.
But now he was kneeling, laying himself bare, stripping all armor, right in the middle of it, because of Kosta.
Because he couldn’t live with himself if Kosta was hurt because of him.
Because he was the reason Kosta was never happy.
He couldn’t live with himself if that was what was waiting for them.
Life was already cruel to them as it was, but now they had to try and work without Tamiko knowing how. To lay himself bare like that. To let everyone know and understand, this was for Kosta.
Never against Kosta.
That he was doing this because of the love he had for the Lycan chief. It was a heartwarming sight, yet a frightening one, especially the moment they understood what this meant for the prince and his Erasthai.
It wasn’t as cool as it seemed, and Kosta despised it to the core. The realization settled in a bit fast, and for a moment, the Lycan chief stilled, trying to understand if he was receiving this the right way.
This was not freedom.
This was hell.
This wasn’t what he wanted from Tamiko.
Surely, he could still explain it with ease, right?
"No," the Lycan chief murmured in disbelief as he looked at the love of life on his knees, like some prisoner who was bound for slaughter.
