Chapter 430: Blood, Fire, Ashes... A Mad King’s Vengeance [2]
[ZAFFUTO]
"Your precious Liana... She begged me to take her life. In exchange, I would spare the lives of everyone else. She pleaded. She cried. She was fully pregnant and already pushing her son when I walked in.
"She was perfectly spread out, open, and with no one to guard her. Those who tried to fight for her, she refused. Said something about their lives being precious and all. She sounded so beautiful and broken.
"And maybe I shouldn’t have murdered her. But she was the only weakness in your life. And the heir... The heir you never knew was a daughter or a son. I took that from right under your nose.
"You weren’t able to do anything other than lock yourself up like a coward. But I just want to congratulate you today, Zaffuto. You stepped out in the sun after ages of haunting the shadows," Ashton mocked.
Zaffuto listened carefully.
You would think that he was trying to understand what was happening. But what use was understanding when he had lived that pain? When he had endured it all, along with his people?
Was this the time for that?
Alpha Ashton’s eyes gleamed with pride, the kind of glint that had once upon a time brought the mad king to his knees years ago. The kind that had turned a monster into something no one would ever truly understand.
This.
A monster without humanity.
A monster whose humanity was burnt to the ground ages ago. Oh, but Ashton was so darn confident here on the battlefield that stared carefully despite the blades that were being swung along.
"Your crown truly looks heavy on you, Zaffuto. All I see... All we see is an old broken man," Ashton taunted, his voice sharp.
It was almost unbelievable how he had remained strong under the King’s gaze and how his pride had remained intact even after everything that had happened.
It was insane on so many levels, but then this was Zaffuto Hinata he was dealing with. Surely the man needed to be careful with his words, especially when it came to the queen of hearts, right?
On the other side of the battlefield, Tamiko stiffened.
Each word from the dark alpha was a stab deeper into his heart than he had ever imagined. It was a harsh replay and reality of what had happened.
Sure, he had heard the rumors and the sorrows of what had happened back then, but to get a live recount of the worst day of his father’s life was just not what he had expected.
And in his rage, the prince picked up his sword.
The same sword he had ditched because he wanted to show Kosta that war was not the answer.
But this was beyond their love story.
This was a pain that spanned over decades. This was about the hurt that had lived longer than they had lived their lives. This was about the lives that had come to a stop.
Tamiko felt his heart ache for the warriors on the battlefield.
The warriors who had probably been waiting for their wives and sisters that fateful day. Those who had lost so much only to hear Ashton recount everything like it was the kind of madness he loved refining in.
Tamiko turned to the Grealor warriors, the very objects of his hurt and everyone’s loss.
The prince swung his sword.
The first swing seemed light, but it brought down three werewolf heads. And he didn’t stop there. He didn’t wait for his father to look at him this time.
Tamiko swung.
He fought.
He eliminated them like that was what he had been born for. Each strike was so personal that the warriors died haunted by the kind of pain they couldn’t even explain. Some of them died faster than they could blink.
The Lycan warriors who were watching in shock seemed to snap out of their shock.
Lord Sadako, who had been watching out for his brother, resumed the murder.
Kosta smiled with pride as he joined his Erasthai.
Danny, who had never felt pain like he had at the moment, had shame for his homeland, for what he had stemmed from. He despised what he had served for years before Tamiko brought him to Kawai.
The hate he had had for the Grealors seemed to pick up right because as he stood there on the battlefield, Danny wasn’t the former beta of Grealor. No. He was a son who had lost family because of the Grealors.
He swung his sword against the same people who had once been his people to defend. Men he had fought alongside for the defense of the pack they loved and swore fealty to.
But would it matter now?
Familiar swords clashed against his, but this time, Danny was stronger. The urge to defend Tamiko was even crueler now. And he tore through his former countrymen. His former race. His former team.
He ripped through them like he had seen Tamiko get hurt again. Like this was supposed to serve as comfort for his best friend. And Danny didn’t stop, not even when his sword finally clashed against Gabriel Grealor’s.
"You’re a wolf," Gabe said as if that was supposed to remind Danny of what he had been loyal to. And Danny just smirked as he ripped his sword through the same thigh that Tamiko had torn through earlier.
Gabe fell to his knees once again. He was hurt, but Danny didn’t care. Instead, he twisted his sword, ignoring the screaming alpha on the ground.
"This is for Galya and our parents," Danny said as he swung against Gabe’s waist, tearing through the muscle tendons like that was heaven for him. But he didn’t stop there.
"This is for Tamiko. For all the days you hurt him because he chose to protect me. This is for my brother, the one you ruined because you couldn’t think with your head," Danny said as he sliced Gabe’s right ear.
He then sprinkled wolfsbane on it like it was his gift to the bastard who had ruined their lives. And as Gabe screamed, Danny cut the Alpha’s left thumb off and shoved it in Gabe’s mouth to shut him up.
"And that is for thinking you could come here and attack my brother again. The only reason I won’t kill you is because your life is not mine to take, Gabriel. Do well to remember that my brother is never alone.
"Never," Danny said before he kicked Gabe in the chin, and the Grealor alpha fell to the ground, bleeding and unconscious.
The Lycan warriors who were close to Danny watched in pride as justice found its way on the battlefield in different forms.
They cheered for the young Lycan lord.
But Danny wasn’t done.
Today, he didn’t care about praise.
All he cared about was his brother.
He couldn’t stop and ask Tamiko what he was feeling.
Because Tamiko was expressing it all on the battlefield. The way that the broken prince murdered the Grealor warriors was all that Danny needed to know how his brother was feeling.
The way that Tamiko tore through them like they were paper leaves in his way.
Each strike he made was fatal. It was a kill strike. One that left the receiver of his rage dead. It was crazy what was happening, but this was a battlefield. And war had come knocking.
"Kill them all!!!!"
