Chapter 432: Blood, Fire, Ashes... A Mad King’s Vengeance [4]
[ZAFFUTO]
At that moment, as the Lycans looked at their king, they finally understood why the king stayed away from them for that long. They were slowly understanding the weight of their monarch’s shock.
The way that things had changed and how life seemed to have paused back then. It didn’t make any sense to them at the time, especially after the log stayed away for the first year, but now it all made sense.
Ashton had created this monster.
And they would stay on the mad king’s side for whatever the fuck he chose to do with the bastard.
"Pride? You think that will save you from me?" Zaffuto mocked, his laughter so raw and detached that Ashton felt the chills for a moment there. But still he refused to give in even as the king slowly closed the distance between them.
Ashton could already feel the magic coming from the king, the pheromones that were pushing him to bend.
The king wasn’t even doing much at this point.
He was just studying his prey, the man who had ruined his life and snatched away the love of this life.
"Do your worst. Nothing you do will make me bow," Ashton said.
The king smirked in fury. He was angry. So angry that he almost couldn’t think straight.
But this time Zaffuto had an anchor.
His son.
Seeing his little angel be on the battlefield, picking up his sword again and slashing through their enemies, was not what he had wanted for his son. And that triggered him even more because the king’s hold on Alpha Ashton tightened.
The man wasn’t even holding the Alpha, but the pheromone release was insane. It was affecting even the people who were close. People who were on the King’s side, and slowly, the battlefield slowed.
Not from their urge to stop but because the king, the mad king, was slowly proving why he was a powerhouse. Honestly, on the field, the only people who were immune to the king’s rage and pheromones were just his son and his brother, Lord Sadako.
Everyone else was getting unstable, even Kosta. So, they stepped back a few feet from where the king and the dark alpha were. It was a bit better from a distance, but then they still felt the impact of the King’s rage.
They still felt the way that the king’s aura had darkened so badly that there was lightning in the sky on a night when the full moon was shining so bright. It made no sense, but nothing ever made sense where Zaffuto Hinata was.
No one would ever be able to make it make sense.
Perhaps Lord Sadako, but beyond that, there wasn’t much.
"Don’t stress. I won’t do anything," King Zaffuto said smugly.
Ashton stared at him, shocked.
It was as if his world had pressed pause.
This wasn’t what he had been looking forward to. He expected the king to mock him, to laugh at him, to try and make him threats. But the way that the king spoke had Ashton wondering what the fuck had happened.
Zaffuto’s hands began glowing, a fierce red that was so hot you’d almost think they were truly in hell.
Ashton didn’t know what that was supposed to mean, but moments later, he started dropping his sword because the piece of metal was melting right off his hands. It was like the alpha had been holding onto fire itself.
The king watched in silence, his face stoic as the alpha suddenly screamed in agony, pulling down his armor as if that was supposed to make him any better.
The battlefield stilled as they watched the Alpha’s strength diminish and his aura slowly fade. It was like watching someone taking their own life, and it wasn’t pretty. But the king didn’t care.
The alpha who had been confidently spewing shit that had broken his heart was now slowly getting on his knees involuntarily. It was a shocker to Ashton himself, too. This was beyond him, and he had nothing to hold onto anymore.
No one to seek strength from, which was weird because he had been confident that the information Zula had given them was sufficient. But even Zula had never been able to win against her own brother.
It was a little delusional of this alpha to think he could win against the mad king who had come here with a vengeance.
"My Lili begged, not for her life or our child’s, but for the lives of the other mothers, and you spat at her pleas," Zaffuto said, like he was reminding Ashton what if was that had gotten here.
The king wasn’t even holding his sword at the moment.
His hand was still glowing with a fire that no one could put out. And the worst or even scariest bit of it all was the way his other hand was siphoning alpha Ashton magic and burying it in the same battlefield the am was being bested on.
That in itself was a cruel show because Zaffuto didn’t have to absorb the bastard magic. It was useless to him. He didn’t need to feel stronger, and the king was proving it to the warriors on the battlefield.
He was letting them know why the king had always been referred to as the monster that horrified monsters. This king was insane, and he wasn’t even denying it at this point.
"Your wife died because of you. Because of your cruelty. You lost your son because of your insanity. You didn’t deserve to be happy when we were all miserable because of you," Ashton let out even as he struggled to be free of Zaffuto’s magical hold.
It was like the world was not his to be part of anymore. He hadn’t wished for this, but life itself wasn’t exactly the kindest to people like him. Ashton had ruined what could have been the best reign in all of history.
Queen Liana Hinata was the only woman the king bowed to. The only person, actually. She was the one soul that scared the hell out of the king, and even better, she had the king’s ears.
The entire realm was already aware of how much the Queen of Hearts had saved the realm. She had been the light to Zaffuto’s darkness and Alpha Ashton Grealor had put that light out.
The dark alpha had taken what wasn’t his to take. He had ruined it all for everyone, and now his own warriors were watching their former alpha crumble on his own. It was crazy how the turns had popped up.
It wasn’t like this had been a part of the plan.
Even then, Ashton didn’t seem to believe he was bested just yet; he was already on his knees, his ears were bleeding...
Hell, he was bleeding from every opening on his body, and he still wasn’t convinced that Zaffuto was stronger than him. The mad king was never going to submit to his threats anymore.
Ashton was a determined man, and now it was costing him.
"I... I’m still... I bested you, Z... Zaffuto," Ashton said, his voice hoarse as his body shook with fury and fear even as the king drained all of his power.
