Chapter 434: Blood, Fire, Ashes... A Mad King’s Vengeance [6]
[ZAFFUTO]
"What have you done?" Gabe asked, his voice hoarse when he finally reached his father even though he was bleeding.
The father and son were already wounded by the hurt on Gabe’s face, which was a reflection of what he was feeling as he stared at his father. It was almost the creepiest kind of hair he had seen, but what else was he supposed to make of this?
Who was he to turn to when the very people he could have turned to were too shocked to even say anything? And for a split second, Gabe regretted not coming with his friends to the invasion.
Ciel could have at least helped with the chaos.
But that was a long shot from what Zaffuto would have done if someone touched his son, right?
"Does it scare you?" Zaffuto mocked softly, you would think that he was trying to have a proper conversation with the young, broken alpha in front of him.
He didn’t have any sympathy for the man, let alone an inkling to save him from the mess that was here. This was their karma. Their reminder that wasting lives wasn’t the best of things that he and his father could do.
Of course, Ashton didn’t even have magic that could heal him anymore, so he was a defeated man, but the little that Gabe had, was focused on fixing him, given the wounds he had gotten from Danny.
"Why?" Gabe breathed as he fell down to his father, trying to check if there was anything he could do to save his father from the hand of the king.
He had hoped it was all a lie, truly, but now as he stared at his father, there was nothing left. They were doomed. As if that wasn’t enough, the king was just staring at him boredly.
The Mad King didn’t answer the Alpha’s son.
Instead, he just flicked his wrist and quieted the entire battlefield.
It happened before anyone could blink.
One moment, the warriors were fighting each other, and the next, the Grealor warriors who were still standing fell down, lifeless. Their swords clung to the bloodied grass like it was where they were meant to be.
They had fallen without so much as a scream, and there wasn’t blood spilled by the king. Anyone who did know any better would assume that they were taking a snap.
Perhaps it was the right kind of nap because right now, everyone was silent.
The Kawai Lycans were too shocked to say anything.
Hell, even the prince was shocked at what had happened, but he didn’t ask or say anything. In fact, he just walked closer to his father while Kosta and the others followed suit.
The only Grealor remnants left on the battlefield were the human alpha and his broken son. It was just the two of them in a sea of Kawai warriors who wouldn’t hesitate to jump then if the mad king wished it so.
"Oh—" Gabriel shrieked as he froze.
His whole army had been downed in literal seconds. Not even enough for a heartbeat. This was the craziest shit he’d ever been involved in, and he wasn’t sure how to take it.
Maybe it was time for him to leave, right?
Tamiko and Kosta watched the madness unfold with their arms entwined. The amusement on their faces was more than anyone could imagine at a time like this, and Gabe felt like he was about to go nuts.
Perhaps he really was headed for the madhouse this time. The way that Konstantin was watching him was unnerving, and Gabe found himself under the gaze of everyone on the battlefield.
Everyone, including his beaten and bested father. It wasn’t how they had thought the battle would be, but what the fuck was he supposed to make of this at the moment, then?
The king, though...
He didn’t look surprised to see that he had flattened an entire army and made certain that no one would be able to understand shit.
Besides, what was there to understand in a place where only the enemy had fallen too badly, it was for the history books??
"Now it’s just us, Gabriel," the king said sharply, his smirk not faltering even once.
He stepped forward, each step a reminder to Gabriel that he had lost everything. A warning of what could happen. Of what this could mean for them. It was not happiness, at least that much, the Alpha’s son was aware of.
This was a personal battle, and the king had won it all for them.
The king had put to rest the craziest question that had lingered for over forty years. It had taken him a while to get up and face what had happened years ago, but the king had done it.
He had made the unexpected possible, and there wasn’t much left.
Gabe faltered in his steps, even though or was of no use at the moment. The king was never going to go easy on him. The king saw not the Alpha of Grealor but the man who had tortured his son.
The one who had hurt his son the most, and he wasn’t about to be the forgiving man that anyone could ever think of him as. Good thing the mad king wasn’t heavy on the kindness that anyone expected of him.
He was just a father now.
"You came here for the prince. For my child. You came to see him beg for mercy while in his father’s lands. You were brave enough with the portal that Sanjiro left you, but you still couldn’t even understand that my child was mine. Is mine.
"And will always, always, be my child. My little angel," the king said as he turned slightly, his eyes meeting Tamiko’s in reverence.
It was a moment that many were not sure they wanted to say anything about, and as the father talked about his son, Tamiko felt his chest swell with pride. That man was his father. The greatest gift the real had given him.
The king talked about Tamiko like the kid was his warmth, and maybe the kid really was that for him. He didn’t see Tamiko as a man who was close to hitting forty years. To him, his son was still in his Lycan puberty.
He was still under five hundred years old, and if he wanted to throw a thousand and one tantrums at the moment, the king would let him. He would let his son do whatever the fuck he wanted.
Anything except for dying, because that was the only thing that everyone would pay a grave price for.
"My little angel can kneel, you know," the mad king said, and Gabriel stared in confusion. He was in so much pain and wasn’t in the mood for a lecture from the one man who had taken down everyone he had come with.
Unfortunately for Gabriel Grealor, he did not have that much of a choice now.
Hell, he wasn’t even sure what he was supposed to do at that moment.
"But he kneels only for the one he chose. The one he loves... His beloved. His future. His husband. His consort. The one he will rule Kawai with. Not you. Never you," Zaffuto said, adding the last bit with a cruel tone of finality.
