Chapter 440: The Unexpected Unconditional Support
[KAWAI]
"I knew they loved each other the day the prince didn’t think twice before slaughtering the entire former council. It was so sudden back then, and he was just a rogue in the kingdom.
"And he made his identity known, snapping everyone out of whatever illusions there were of the prince," a warrior added graciously, pride in his voice like that was the only thing that ever mattered to them.
Like love was a gospel that they could sing and lean into no matter how many times shit went to the deepest darkest pits of hell. Perhaps it was what life was bound to be for them and the gods; was it fascinating?
This was the kind of shit that didn’t happen frequently, and yet when it did happen, it always had the entire kingdom in shock. This would really go a long way for them regardless of how shit went on.
"The scene today may have been different, but the emotions were the same. The last time, it was the prince tearing through the royal council for Chief Konstantin, and today, to was the chief ripping through their enemies for the price it was insane;
"...how they were protecting each other and fighting at the same time," another piped up, and they just chuckled softly as they made their way home.
This was normal for them, or so it seemed. It was a win that they had had the pleasure of watching, and it was deserved at the very least. Honestly, it was more than they had expected, and that spoke a lot.
"They were not fighting, if you ask me. They were protecting each other. That is what Erasthais do on such occasions. Come to think of it, we went to war because the Grealors seriously sat down.
"... and concluded that Chief Konstantin was the crown prince’s weakness. What a joke. It’s like they haven’t seen our Chief in action," a warrior said, adding the last bit in a scoff, and Kosta intentionally sharpened his hearing.
He wanted to hear what his warriors said about him.
It was important for him truly because having a war being waged because he was the omega Lycan was not something that gave him confidence, and if his warriors thought so of him too, then he would have to step down.
He was a warrior with pride.
He knew what he was working for, and if the people he was leading thought he was just as weak as the Grealor wolves thought, then there was no need for him on the battlefield.
Tamiko noticed the moment Kosta went stiff, even though they were walking side by side.
And while he wanted to say something to make the Lycan Chief feel better or even warn the warriors against saying anything to upset his Erasthai, he too wanted to hear what was there.
The warrior always thought of Kosta as one of them.
And even if there were bad things that Kosta did on the battlefield, they always made it known, regardless of whether the king was around or not.
Now with her prince, it didn’t matter because that was how Kosta had trained them; to be honest, regardless of what happened, they would always deal with the consequences together.
"I know, right? We have been with the Chief for the longest time, he saved our asses thousands of years ago, and he was an omega then. We have known it for years and years and still trusted him with our lives.
"I would die for him without so much as a second thought," another warrior added, and the others agreed excitedly.
"They came because they thought our Chief was weak because everyone now knew he was an omega, and was a bunch of fools," Akila laughed as he looked at the warriors.
"They think we follow him because he is some weak omega who needs to be saved," another mocked the Grealors.
"They don’t know that we follow the man, not the gender or anything, we follow our barbarian. That is all that matters. If the Grealors come again, we should sharpen our swords.
"I know they will spread the word and try to gather more people to come after our chief. I will hack them to pieces," Akila said, and the warriors cheered, earning stares from the king, but they didn’t stop.
They were happy and proud of their Chief. They were technically still awed by the Lycan Chief, and that spoke a lot to Kosta. He knew they were not just saying that because they feared what Tamiko would do to them.
They were saying it because they loved Kosta. They believed in Kosta. They followed Kosta, and regardless of what happened, they would always, always see Kosta as their leader. That was all that mattered.
Igor Konstantin let out a sigh of relief.
He had never thought that this was a conversation he needed to hear from his fellow warriors. He never thought that they would accept an omega Lycan for a commander, but now, it was more than obvious.
And Igor smiled softly as they walked home, their cloaks covered in Grealor blood and their armor too. It was the best thing that they showed them anyway.
Because now the Chief knew where the warriors stood.
Where the realm stood, and it mattered so much and gave Kosta so much relief.
"If you think of it, I think the Grealor alpha was jealous of our Chief," a warrior added as the conversation continued revolving around the battle and Kosta and all that had happened.
It was like they were telling each other the kinds of tales that no one would ever be prepared for. But if they were being honest, they were not sure what it would have turned out like.
The king was there, the prince, and the royal family were there too.
That was more than they had imagined, and it was impossible to defeat them with the riyals alone, but the fact that the royals let them participate in the battlefield made them feel way better.
"Oh, yeah. I think I know what you mean. That Grealor alpha was rejected by the prince, so now he thinks that he can come after the crown through our Chief and have it all crumble," another warrior laughed humorlessly.
He sounded pissed that anyone even thought to try and bargain their chief for whatever the fuck was happening out there.
To them, it was pure disrespect, and they hated it.
They wouldn’t let it slide.
"I don’t care what anyone else thinks of the golden couple. I just want a love like theirs. You saw how they looked at each other like the world was ending? The devotion, the love, my goodness...
"I hope my Erasthai someday loves me like that," a young warrior said as he looked at the couple before them. They were walking and engaging in their own conversation, but people around them were still awed by their love.
It was really worth more than they could ever come to understand, and perhaps that was why Kosta didn’t turn around to look at them. There was no point this time anyway. What had happened was out there, and there was no taking it all back.
"Even the dead we left there saw it. They truly do belong to each other, and anyone who tries to separate them will meet the wrath of everyone in Kawai, I suppose," the warriors said excitedly as they continued their discussions about the prince and his Erasthai.
