Chapter 67: Kidnapped Nathan!
The morning sun barely filtered through the thick curtains of Elias’s hotel room, casting dim shadows across the walls. Elias stirred in his bed, his body heavy and uncomfortably warm, a faint sheen of sweat on his forehead.
His eyes fluttered open, and he groaned, the familiar ache of his heat creeping through him. He glanced at his wrist, where the watch sat silent, its warning beeps unheard since he’d muted it during the museum tour.
His phone buzzed on the nightstand, and he reached for it, seeing a text from Dr Patel.
Dr P:
Elias, your watch triggered a heat alert. Are you okay? Take your suppressants and call me.
Elias’s stomach twisted, a mix of frustration and embarrassment washing over him. "I’m fine," he muttered to himself, wrapping the blanket tighter around his shoulders. "It’s not that bad. It’s just two beeps." He typed a quick reply to Dr Patel.
E:
It’s not serious. I’ll handle it.
Before he could hit send, a knock on the door startled him. He groaned again, his body sluggish as he staggered to his feet, clutching the blanket like a shield.
He opened the door to find Jace and Rowan standing there, their expressions a mix of concern and tension. Jace’s eyes scanned him immediately, his brows furrowing.
"Elias, are you okay? You didn’t come down for breakfast."
Rowan leaned against the doorframe, his gaze softer but equally worried.
"Yeah, man, you look rough. What’s going on?"
Elias coughed, his throat dry, and leaned against the door for support.
"It’s... my heat," he admitted, his voice low, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment. "It’s starting again."
Rowan’s eyes widened, surprise flickering across his face.
"What? I thought you got rid of it last time."
Elias shook his head, his voice strained.
"No, I... I never got rid of it. I just managed it with pills."
Rowan’s jaw tightened, his concern deepening. "You’ve never... slept with anyone to deal with it?" he asked, his voice careful but edged with disbelief.
Elias’s flush deepened, and he looked away, his fingers tightening around the blanket.
"No. I don’t... I don’t do that."
Rowan’s expression softened, a mix of sympathy and shock.
"Man, that’s gotta be rough. I can’t imagine going through that without... You know." He shook his head, clearly trying to process it. "You’re tougher than you look, Elias."
Elias forced a weak smile, his body aching. "Thanks, I guess."
Rowan stepped forward, his tone firm but gentle. "You need to rest, man. Take your pills, stay in bed. I’ll tell Dr Harris you’re not feeling well."
Elias shook his head, coughing again.
"I’m fine, really. I can..."
"No, you’re not," Rowan cut in, his voice leaving no room for argument. He stepped into the room, guiding Elias back to the bed before Jace could move. The air was thick with the sweet, overwhelming scent of vanilla... Elias’s pheromones, heightened by his heat. Rowan kept his breathing steady, trying to ignore the effect, and helped Elias settle onto the bed. "Stay here. Sleep it off. We’ll handle the professor."
Jace stood frozen in the doorway, his hands clenched at his sides. The vanilla scent hit him hard, and he gritted his teeth, fighting the instinctive reaction stirring in him. He could feel his body responding, and it took every ounce of willpower to keep himself in check.
"Yeah, Elias, just... rest," he said, his voice tight. He turned and stepped out, closing the door behind him, his face flushed.
As soon as the door clicked shut, Jace leaned against the wall, his breathing heavy.
"I’m already hard," he muttered, his voice low, almost to himself.
Rowan, stepping out behind him, raised an eyebrow, his tone dry. "Yeah, me too. That scent’s no joke."
Jace’s eyes narrowed, his frustration flaring.
"You said you only see Elias as a brother. Now you’re getting a boner because of him?"
Rowan’s lips twitched, but his expression stayed serious.
"What’s your problem, Voss? You mad because Elias didn’t sleep with you? Is that why you’re so obsessed?"
Jace’s fist shot out before he could think, connecting with Rowan’s jaw with a sharp thud. "Shut up," he growled, his voice shaking with anger.
Rowan stumbled back, rubbing his jaw, but his smirk returned almost instantly.
"I knew it," he mumbled, loud enough for Jace to hear. "That’s what this is about, isn’t it? You’re pissed he doesn’t want you. I guess you should stop trying hard, bro!"
Jace’s face burned, his hands trembling with the urge to hit Rowan again.
"I don’t have time for your bullshit," he snapped, turning to walk down the hall. "Let’s just tell Dr Harris and get this over with."
Rowan followed, his smirk fading into a more serious expression.
"Fine, but you need to cool it, man. Elias doesn’t need you losing your shit right now."
They found Dr Harris in the hotel cafeteria, where the other students were finishing breakfast, their voices a lively hum over plates of eggs and toast. Jace approached her first, his tone clipped.
"Dr Harris, Elias isn’t feeling well. He’s staying in his room."
Dr Harris’s brows furrowed, concern flashing across her face.
"Is he alright? Does he need a doctor?"
Rowan stepped in, his voice calmer.
"He’ll be fine. It’s... an omega thing. He just needs rest and his meds."
Dr Harris nodded, her expression softening. "Alright. I’ll check on him before we leave. Make sure everyone gets ready to head to the health centre. We leave in twenty minutes."
Jace and Rowan nodded. The tension between them was palpable as they were both stealing glances at each other. Dr Harris made her way to Elias’s room, knocking softly. When Elias answered, his voice weak, she stepped inside, her face professional but kind.
"Elias, how are you feeling?" she asked, her eyes scanning him. He was curled up in bed, the blanket pulled tight around him, his face pale.
"I’m okay," he said, his voice hoarse. "Just... my heat. I’ll take my pills and rest."
Dr Harris frowned, her concern deepening. "Do you want someone to stay with you? I can assign a student..."
"No," Elias said quickly, shaking his head. "I’m fine alone. Really. I just need to sleep."
Dr Harris hesitated but nodded.
"Alright. Keep your phone close, and call me if you need anything. We’ll be back this evening." She left, closing the door softly, hoping he’d be okay.
The group gathered outside, ready to walk to the community health centre. Jace and Rowan stood apart, their earlier argument hanging between them like a heavy fog. The other students chatted excitedly about the day ahead, unaware of the tension. As they all started walking, both Jace’s and Rowan’s eyes kept drifting to the hotel, their worry for Elias gnawing at them.
.
.
Meanwhile, across the city at the airport, Nathan Caldwell stepped off the plane, his designer sunglasses perched on his nose, his tailored jacket catching the morning light. Despite being the son of the matching centre’s president, Nathan had always shied away from the spotlight, preferring his private life abroad. But today, he was back, and he hadn’t told his family... his father, his mother, or his siblings. He wanted to surprise them, to show up unannounced and see the looks on their faces.
He adjusted his bag, ignoring the whispers and stares from passersby who were admiring his expensive look. He made his way to the cab park, where a well-dressed driver approached him, his smile polite but eager.
"Sir, need a ride? I can take you anywhere you want."
Nathan glanced at the driver, noting his neat suit and professional demeanour. "Sure," he said, nodding. "Let’s go."
The driver loaded Nathan’s luggage into the trunk, then opened the back door with a flourish. Nathan slid into the seat, sinking into the leather, already feeling the weight of his long flight. The driver hopped into the front, fastening his seatbelt, and glanced at Nathan through the rearview mirror. "You must have had a long trip, huh? You must be exhausted."
Nathan nodded, rubbing his eyes. "Yeah, more than twenty-four hours in the air. I just want to get home and crash on my bed,"
The driver chuckled, his eyes glinting.
"You will definitely have plenty of time for that." He pointed to a small compartment beside Nathan’s seat, stocked with bottled water and snacks. "Help yourself. I always keep stuff for my passengers."
Nathan raised an eyebrow, impressed. "Nice touch," he said, grabbing a bottle of water. He twisted the cap and took a long gulp, the cool liquid soothing his dry throat. "You’re good at this," he added, gesturing to the snacks.
The driver grinned, his eyes flicking to the mirror. "Haha! I have to keep my passengers happy. You must be quite thirsty, right?"
Nathan nodded, taking another sip. "Yeah." He pulled out his phone, intending to text Viktor about his arrival, but his vision blurred suddenly. He blinked, shaking his head, but the dizziness only grew. The phone slipped from his hand, and he groaned, as he caught the driver’s grin through the mirror. His voice slurred as Nathan slid down the seat.
"You... fucking..."
The driver’s grin widened, as he hit the steering wheel.
"I got a big fish today," he said, his voice low and mocking. "I didn’t even ask where we’re going and he didn’t realise. Too easy." He laughed, the sound chilling as Nathan slumped in the seat, unconscious.
The driver didn’t look back, steering the cab toward an unknown destination, leaving Nathan unaware of the danger he was in.
.
.
Back at the hotel, Elias lay in bed, his body trembling as the heat pulsed through him. He stared at the package from Dr Patel, the toy inside a daunting prospect.
"No way I’m using that," he muttered, his voice shaky. "It’s too... big." His phone buzzed again, Dr Patel’s name flashing on the screen, but he ignored it, his head pounding. "Jeez! I’m fine," he told himself, though the ache in his body said otherwise.
He regretted not packing his usual sleeping pills and pain relievers... the ones he relied on to dull the heat’s intensity.
"I’ll sleep it off," he said, pulling the blanket tighter. "If it gets worse, I’ll go to a pharmacy tonight." His eyes fluttered closed. He just hoped it wouldn’t get worse by the time he woke up.
