What's Wrong With Being An Omega Nanny?-Chapter 98: Thank you! Goodbye!

Chapter 98: Thank you! Goodbye!
The cab pulled up to the grand gates of the Voss estate just as the sun dipped low, painting the sky in soft orange. Elias stepped out, his legs still a bit wobbly from the hospital, but the fresh air felt good in his lungs. He rummaged in his pocket for the fare, but his wallet was nowhere to be found. He had just remembered that his wallet was in his bag and he wasn’t with his bag.
"You aren’t going to run away without paying my money, are you?" The driver asked as he frowned deeply. He had even unfastened his seatbelt, wanting to alight from the car and hold onto Elias.
Elias felt even weaker after everything he went through today. He didn’t have the energy to fight with the driver.
"I swear, I’m not going to run away. If you can just hang on and let me..."
"Hold on," a familiar voice called from behind, interrupting him.
Elias turned to see Ethan Voss climbing out of a sleek black sedan that had just pulled in behind the cab. Ethan was elegantly dressed in his half rumpled suit with a laptop bag slung over his shoulder. He looked like he had just returned from somewhere important but Elias couldn’t tell.
"Ethan?" Elias said, surprised. "Were you heading out of town?"
"I was. But the trip got cancelled," Ethan replied, pulling out his wallet and handing a few bills to the cab driver. "Here, I got this."
The driver nodded gratefully and drove off with a greedy smile on his face. Ethan paid more than the fare. The driver sped off so he won’t get asked to refund the extra cash.
Elias sighed as he shifted awkwardly.
"Thanks. I owe you one."
Ethan waved it off, uninterested.
"Are you heading to the main house?" He asked and Elias nodded his head. "Get in. I’ll drive you the rest of the way. It’s a hike from the gate."
Elias hesitated for a second, then slid into the seat close to Ethan The car smelled like leather and faint cologne. The driver started the engine, and they rolled slowly up the winding driveway toward the main house. The silence stretched for a minute, comfortable but heavy. Ethan tapped away on his laptop balanced on his lap, dealing with some work email, probably... before he spoke.
"So... Spicybites."
Elias flinched so hard he nearly hit his head on the window. His heart skipped.
’Spicybites? How the hell did he know that?’
That was the dumb username he’d picked on that dating app Milo had bugged him to try months ago.
He had opened it just for fun when he thought it was a way to make money after he quit working for the Dragos.
"Wait... how do you know about that?" Elias asked, his voice higher than he meant.
Ethan sighed, eyes still on the laptop.
"I sent the message. The one about a proposal."
Elias’s mouth dropped open. He stared at Ethan, then burst out laughing... a real, belly-deep laugh that surprised even him.
"You? Mr Serious Ethan Voss proposed to me on a dating app? I thought it was a scam!"
Ethan’s lips twitched, but he didn’t laugh.
"It wasn’t a scam. I was... testing the waters when I saw you were a dominant Omega. I’m glad you didn’t accept, though because it would’ve been messy."
"Messy? Whatever do you mean by messy?" Elias asked, still grinning.
Ethan glanced at him. "I would have been entangled in your rectangular love. You have too many people interested in you, and I don’t have the energy to be involved in that. It’s complicated,"
Elias snorted. "Rectangular love? That’s a new one. It’s not my fault that many people are interested in me. I never did anything to get their attention,"
The car rolled to a stop in front of the main house. The driver cleared his throat as he stared at the mirror.
"We’re here, sir."
Elias unbuckled swiftly before Ethan said any more words.
"Thanks for the ride, Ethan. And... sorry about the app thing. I deleted it ages ago."
"No worries," Ethan said. "You should go and rest. You look like you need it."
Elias climbed out, waving as the car pulled away. But the driver didn’t leave right away. Ethan stared at the driver through the mirror. "Give me ten minutes. I need... privacy."
The driver nodded and parked off to the side before alighting. Ethan stayed in the car, staring at his phone. The screen was open to the dating app... fifty unread messages, all from profiles he’d messaged first. He’d done background checks on every single one. Fake jobs, fake photos, fake lives. His mother kept pushing him to settle down with an omega, but Ethan wasn’t the type to walk up to strangers. He hated small talk and hated crowds even more.
But Elias? Elias was different. Elias was the first omega he ever had a conversation with. He never asked about money, never name-dropped, never tried to impress and never acted weak. Talking to him felt... easy. However, he had too many disadvantages. He was way older than Elias, and he had too many love rivals.
Ethan’s thumb hovered over a new message... an anonymous link.
’Everything you want is here. Tonight. Midnight.’
No sender name. He’d cancelled his trip the second he got it. He’d tell the family he was sick, slip out later, and see what it was about.
He turned off the screen and got out of the car.
.
.
Inside the house, the foyer was warm and bustling. Lila spotted Elias first and launched herself at him, arms wrapping around his waist.
"Elias! You’re back!"
He hugged her tight, lifting her off the ground a little.
"Oh my! You’re eating well, Lila. I can’t lift you. Did you miss me?"
"I miss you plenty!"
"Missed you too, kiddo. How’s your body?"
"Better! The doctor said I can start walking more next week." She pulled back, eyes wide. "Were you sick? Jace said you had a fever and heat."
Elias ruffled her hair.
"Something like that. I’m good now."
Mrs Voss appeared in the doorway to the living room, arms crossed. Jace hovered behind her, his face unreadable. Leo and Mr Voss were nowhere in sight... probably in the study or Leo flirting with anyone he saw..
"Elias," Mrs Voss said, her voice smooth but firm. "Welcome home. I’m glad you’re well. However, we need to talk."
Jace stepped forward.
"Are you okay? Did he... hurt you anywhere?"
Elias knew who "he" was.
"I’m fine, Jace. Really."
Lila tugged at his sleeve.
"Can we play later?"
"Sure. We’ll play a lot since I’m better now. You should go upstairs and wait for me," Elias said gently. "I’ll come up soon."
Lila nodded and scampered off. Elias followed Mrs Voss into the living room, Jace trailing behind. They all sat quietly. Mrs Voss is in the armchair, Jace and Elias on the couch. The silence was thick.
Elias has been waiting for this opportunity. He already refused to return to the Drago house. He wanted to tell Mr and Mrs Voss to allow him to stay for a few weeks till he gets an apartment for himself and Lila, since Lila didn’t want to return to the old house where she lived with their parents.
He opened his mouth, ready to speak.
"I wanted to say..."
Mrs Voss held up a hand. "Let me."
Elias closed his mouth as she interrupted him.
Mrs Voss folded her hands in her lap. "Elias, you and Lila have been with us for months. We’ve grown fond of you both. But we’ve done more than enough. It’s time for you to leave."
The words hit like a slap. Elias stared at the carpet, his throat tight. He’d known this was coming... he’d planned to leave anyway... but hearing it out loud hurt.
"I... understand ma’am," he said quietly. "You’ve been so kind. I can’t thank you enough."
Mrs Voss’s smile was small and polite.
"We heard about the matching result. 96.7% with Mr Drago. That’s... extraordinary. You should be with him. Build a life. For Lila. For yourself."
Elias’s stomach twisted. "Oh! But it’s not certain that I..."
"Please," Mrs Voss said softly. "Don’t give my son false hope. Jace cares for you... deeply. But you’ve made your choice."
Jace’s head snapped up. "Mom..."
"Jace," she warned.
Elias looked at Jace. Their eyes met for a second... Jace’s eyes were red-rimmed, pleading. Then Jace looked away.
Elias stood slowly. His voice cracked.
"Thank you. For everything you’ve done for me. The room, the food, the doctors for Lila... I’ll never forget it."
Mrs Voss nodded once. She didn’t stand.
Elias bowed his head and left.
.
As soon as he left, she turned to Jace who looked like he wanted to go after Elias.
"Did you see for yourself? If he had wanted to stay with you, he would have begged us. He already made up his mind to move to the Dragos. It’s time for you to give up, Jace. That boy doesn’t love you," she said and walked away.
Jace clasped his hands together as a single year rolled down his cheek.
’I know he doesn’t love me, Mother. But, how am I supposed to give up when I love him this much? I don’t want to see him with anyone else. If he isn’t with me... I can’t allow him to be with anyone else... Mother,’
He thought to himself as his eyes turned cold and deadly.
