Chapter 386

Chapter 386: Chapter 385, The Wanderer’s Surprise Attack_1
"Eighth Brother, we’ll do whatever you say; we’ll listen to you."
"Right, wherever you say to go, we’ll all listen to you."
"We’ve seen Xileruo World. Their world is indeed more prosperous, and we can certainly live there. With our strength, we can definitely manage it."
"It’s freezing cold here, really unsuitable for living. Even the Continent of All-Gods has abandoned it."
"What if some people don’t want to leave?"
Ba Jie explained, "It’s simple. Those who want to leave will follow Eighth Brother. Those who don’t want to leave should gather so we can see how many there are, and then we’ll leave some people to take care of them. Not everyone wants to leave."
The eighteen people nodded; this idea wasn’t bad.
They all nodded in agreement.
The meeting quickly concluded. They began discussing their next course of action.
Seventeen of them left, returning to their own villages to tally who needed to leave and who wanted to stay.
Jiang Chen and Angelina were gathered around the Du Stove.
Angelina sat on a stool, feeding firewood into it. A thick plume of smoke billowed out, making Angelina cough a few times.
Jiang Chen laughed. "You’re so silly. You have to use dry firewood; wet wood smokes."
"Why didn’t you say so earlier?"
"Idiot, even a three-year-old knows that. How could you not?"
"How would I know? I’ve never done this before."
Jiang Chen set up a metal rack next to the Du Stove and started roasting a rabbit he had hunted. The tempting aroma wafted through the air. Angelina sniffed and exclaimed, "It smells so good!"
At that moment, Olive emerged from the Covenant Space.
Looking at the delicious food, she grumbled fiercely, "Brother, you’re eating without calling me out!"
"It’s not ready yet! I’ll call you when it is."
"Is that really true? I suspect you weren’t planning to call me at all. Good thing I smelled it."
Jiang Chen glanced at Olive. "How’s your strength upgrade coming along?"
"Every time I come out, you ask me the same question."
"Of course! You’re my Covenant Beast, and you’ll be fighting alongside me in the future. If your strength doesn’t grow, how will you fight with me?"
Jiang Chen was speechless.
How could he have ended up with a Covenant Beast that had no strength? What use was this Covenant Beast then? Olive was, after all, from the Dragon Race’s Royal Family. He was counting on her to help him fight in the future, wasn’t he?
"I am growing, aren’t I? You need to wait, be patient."
"By the time you’ve grown, I’ll already be a God."
"That would be best; then I can just reap the benefits without doing anything."
Jiang Chen really wanted to give her a good smack.
What use are you?
Soon, the rabbit was roasted. The three of them sat together, eating the grilled meat. Olive savored it blissfully; the taste was indescribably delicious.
"Brother, you have to make more delicious food in the future; I’m starving for it!" Olive said while munching on the roasted rabbit, not forgetting to remind Jiang Chen.
"I know, I know. I’ll call you whenever there’s food, alright, you little glutton?"
Olive ate at a rapid pace. After Jiang Chen had taken only a couple of bites, he suddenly realized both rabbits were gone, devoured completely by Olive.
She’s simply a bottomless pit! A little glutton.
Olive looked at Jiang Chen, her eyes watery. "Brother, I’m still not full."
Still not full? This was meant to satisfy her craving, not to fill her stomach.
Jiang Chen said, "Go back to your Covenant Space and eat Dragon Crystals. Eating those is what will increase your strength."
Olive shook her head. "No way! Every time I eat Dragon Crystals, I have to spend a while digesting them. Besides, Dragon Crystals taste awful, completely flavorless. They’re nothing like grilled meat."
This dragon actually expects Dragon Crystals to be as delicious as grilled meat? Is she crazy, or am I? She has such an easy way to increase her strength, and she doesn’t even want it?
Jiang Chen said, "Why don’t you take out a Dragon Crystal and we’ll try roasting it? Maybe add some chili powder, cumin, or something?"
"That’s a good idea!"
Olive silently took out a Dragon Crystal and handed it to Jiang Chen.
Jiang Chen placed the Dragon Crystal on the fire to roast, then sprinkled it with chili powder and cumin.
Olive stared at the Dragon Crystal. "Brother, will it work?"
"I don’t know, but we have to try. What if the Dragon Crystal actually starts to smell like roasted meat? Then you could enjoy eating it and increase your strength at the same time—the best of both worlds!"
"Mhm."
Angelina got up and walked towards the window.
Just then, Jiang Chen had a bad feeling. The Dragon Crystal started to SIZZLE, its internal energy becoming violently unstable. Jiang Chen quickly pulled Olive, and they leaped out the window.
BOOM!
The Dragon Crystal exploded, and Angelina’s Kouji [Nine-Tailed] enveloped the two of them.
The entire house was blown to smithereens.
The explosion woke the surrounding neighbors, who came out of their homes to investigate. A group of Wanderers, armed with Thin Swords, also hurried over to see what had happened.
Ba Jie looked at Jiang Chen, Angelina, and Olive. He asked, "Chen Jinnan, what happened?"
Jiang Chen gave an awkward smile. "I was grilling meat and accidentally blew up the stove."
Ba Jie’s mouth twitched.
Grilling meat blew up the stove? What on earth were they grilling?
Chen Haiming said, "As long as you’re all alright. If something had happened to you, I’d have a hard time explaining it to the Commander. I’ll take you to another room; it’s vacant."
Jiang Chen gave another sheepish smile and followed Chen Haiming.
Ba Jie shook his head.
What kind of mischief was this kid up to now?
The three of them moved to another room.
Angelina grumbled, "I can’t believe you two actually thought of using a Dragon Crystal for grilling! Didn’t you know Dragon Crystals explode when exposed to fire?"
"You didn’t say so earlier! Now look, the house is gone."
"I saw how excited you both were, so I decided not to remind you!"
"Sister, you’ve changed."
"How have I changed?"
"You didn’t even warn me?" Olive’s eyes widened.
Angelina patted Olive’s head. "Sister hasn’t changed at all. It’s good for you two to learn a lesson the hard way!"
Jiang Chen took out a cigarette and walked silently to the window. His emotions were complicated. Olive’s casual remark had given Jiang Chen pause.
The speaker may be careless, but the listener takes it to heart. Perhaps Angelina really had changed. Was the Angelina standing before him the same money-grubbing little girl, or the reincarnation of a Divine being? It was just like himself. Was he a transmigrator? Or Jiang Qiu’s brother?
Angelina walked up behind Jiang Chen, hugged him from behind, and asked with a puzzled look, "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing much."
"It’s time for your ’homework.’"
Suddenly, Jiang Chen felt the cigarette lose all its appeal.
Damn it. My stamina can’t keep up! How can my mere thousand-plus stamina compare to her twenty thousand?
Jiang Chen turned back with a smile. "Enemies are here."
Angelina rolled her eyes. "Don’t try to fool me. I saw you glance at the girl next door twice today. I know you’re up to no good."
Uh... she saw that too? She was an innocent-looking girl, quite a beauty. I only glanced a couple of extra times without thinking, and Angelina noticed? Does she have the nose of a hound or something?
"No, really, enemies are here. It seems the Wanderers aren’t as united as they seem. Look through the window at the rooftops nearby. There are several dark figures heading this way; they’re probably after the Potion."
Angelina looked through the window and indeed saw one or two dark figures.
The figures, wielding Thin Swords, moved swiftly across the rooftops.
"Then what should we do?"
"Let’s notify Ba Jie first!"
Jiang Chen took out a Communication Rune and immediately informed Ba Jie.
By now, Ba Jie had also sensed something was amiss. He quickly led a group of Wanderers to intercept them.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
