Chapter 730: Incoporating a New Army
"Okay, now you put it like that, maybe we’re a little bit too big. But now we have a new enemy in the north that could attack us at any time."
"Do you think I didn’t watch the press conference yesterday? You said loud and clear that we now possess an ICBM.
There’s almost a non-zero chance they are going to attack us. We don’t mess with them, and they wouldn’t dare to mess with us."
As Yuqi uses Xiaoyun’s own words during the press conference against him, he awkwardly scratches his head in confusion.
"Is there really no other way? Just a small increase. I can even pay for it—"
"No means no. Why don’t you just try to convince your friends to join us? Then you could have your 6th army group like you wanted it."
"I’ll try it. But if it doesn’t go as planned, can you at least promise me that you’re going to—Oww!"
"Ask me one more time, and I’m going to suck you dry right in the office, right now," Yuqi warned.
"Okay, okay, I won’t ask again."
As Yuqi lets Xiaoyun’s crotch go, he slowly moves away from her before heading over to the door handle.
"Then I’m going to leave now?"
"Go away already."
---
As Xiaoyun exited the office, he quickly drove his car before a smile appeared on his face as he turned on the music.
" That was easier than I had imagined. Now, just one more thing before everything is done again."
Taking out his phone, he quickly dialed Chengyi’s number. After waiting for a few seconds, the other side finally picked up.
"Hello?"
"Chengyi, I got it done. She agreed to it."
"She did?"
"100 percent. She didn’t even make any demands. Just told me to incorporate your army into the 6th army group."
"Nice. Where do you want to meet then?"
"You’re in the Guangzhou training field right now, right? I’ll drive there right now. Tell all of your men to get ready to have a feast."
"On it!"
As the phone call ended, Xiaoyun turned the music higher as he let out a small sigh of relief.
The one thing he had been constantly worrying about since going back to Luoping was now gone.
Chengyi’s and Pinli’s troop was more than willing to join his army, much easier than he had imagined when he first talked to them after Yiming’s meeting.
With Yuqi now out of the way, there was only a formality left before his new 6th Army Corps would become a reality.
At the same time, a worry started popping up in his head. One that Yuqi herself had constantly reminded him of, over and over again.
"Maybe I do have too big an army... Eh, whatever. That’s something for the future me to deal with."
A few minutes of driving later...
"Xiaoyun!"
"Chengyi! Pinli! Long time no see, hasn’t it?"
As the two of them took turns hugging Xiaoyun, he could see all the soldiers who stood behind them.
"How have your troops been living so far? Any of your troops had any complaints or anything?"
"They had been more than happy to live in your barracks. It’s way better than what we used to have back in Changsha." Pinli answered.
"That’s good to hear... Oh, I almost forgot, you guys aren’t eating here in the cafeteria. Can you tell them to all get in formation?"
Both of them immediately turned around, directing several of their officers before the troops finally started moving their legs.
"What do you think?"
Chengyi asked as the three of them watched from the front, with soldiers getting into a uniform square formation.
"Pretty good disciplined... But why do your army all wear different kinds of clothes?"
"Um. We don’t exactly have the uniform for everybody like you guys. Most of them have to bring their own clothes when joining the army."
"That’s not going to cut it. I’ll tell the logistics department to give you guys new clothes and gear."
"Everyone, Commander Xiaoyun is not just going to give us food, he’s going to give us new clothes to wear!" Pinli yelled out loud at once.
"Thank you, Commander Xiaoyun!"
As rows upon rows of soldiers yelled out at once, Xiaoyun was a little surprised as their faces all looked genuinely grateful towards him.
Even though it felt like the least insignificant thing he could do, they seemed to be treasuring it as if he had done something crazy.
"Geez, what did your soldiers get in benefits in the past?" Xiaoyun curiously asked
"Benefits? Getting food alone is a benefit. Half the time, the soldiers only get a five bullet and a gun, and that’s it."
"Really? Is that bad?"
Seeing both of them staring back at him dead in the eyes, Xiaoyun took it as the truth.
"Well, you two are going to find out why you should have joined earlier... Everyone, follow me, I’ll bring you all to the place we’ll be eating."
---
As hundreds of thousands of soldiers marched out of the training barracks and into the city center, all of the civilians were a little shocked.
There was no announcement of a parade beforehand at all, as the soldiers all marched in unison, going down the street with the buses slowly following them.
If it weren’t for seeing their Governor leading them and the lack of weapons in the soldiers’ hands, they all would have thought this was a coup.
"We’re almost there. Just one more block and we’ll be at our destination."
As Xiaoyun yelled it out loud, the soldiers’ faces were even more excited as they could already smell the flavor in the distance.
"Xiaoyun, are you sure we can just walk in the road like this? The bus had been following us the whole time, I think." Pinli nervously asked.
"The buses can wait. Your men had been fighting endlessly in Hunan. They deserved a break more than anyone in this city—"
"Yo, Governor Chen! What is all this commotion for? Was there a planned parade today or something?"
As Shen Wen’s voice appeared to the right, Xiaoyun didn’t even need to turn his head as he waved his hand in that direction.
"Just taking my friends to get some food. A parade would have guns and the new missiles being showcased."
"Thank you!"
"Who’s that person?" Chengyi curiously asked.
"The owner of a newspaper company. And a TV station. You might want to tell your men to be more formal when we get there."
Pinli didn’t waste any time as he quickly went back to his own officers, letting them issue the warning to the rest of the army.
"I almost forgot to ask this, Chengyi, are these really the total number of troops under your army?"
Xiaoyun curiously asked as he looked behind him, which was roughly made up of around 20,000 soldiers in total.
"We didn’t bring all of them. They went to General Yiming instead... But we can convince them to join us—"
"No need. Yiming is going to be your superior, so there’s no difference... You and Chengyi can get along with him, right?"
As Chengyi nodded his head, Pinli finally came back from his trip, looking a little exhausted from running to the back.
"What are you two just talking about?"
"Nothing much... Oh, looks like we finally made it here."
The moment Xiaoyun stopped walking, all of the soldiers stopped marching at once as they were all stunned by what was in front of them.
Row after row of chairs and tables were already set up both inside and outside the restaurants, with plates full of food.
"I already ordered all of the food for the day on this entire street. You all don’t have to worry about paying at all."
"Xiaoyun, are you sure? T-This looks a little expensive. We can take some stuff from our backpacks to pay for it."
Pinli nervously asked as he could see the sheer amount of food variety in different areas of the streets.
"It’s only going to waste if you guys can’t finish it... Don’t worry about paying it back, it’s a signing bonus welcoming you guys to Luoping’s army."
Seeing Xiaoyun unwilling to compromise, the two of them had no choice but to accept his offer, as they didn’t even have the currency to pay.
"What are you all waiting for? Get your food... Remember, seconds are being served right up. No need to fight for food."
The moment Xiaoyun added the second part to his sentence, the soldiers’ irrational rush turned into a much calmer, orderly fashion of taking their plate of food.
"You two can join in too. You don’t have to stand here to talk to me."
"Thanks!"
As the two of them rushed in to join in with the rest of the soldiers and officers, Xiaoyun watched from the side before his phone suddenly started ringing.
"Hello?"
"Xiaoyun! What the fuck are you doing? You didn’t even tell me you’re buying the whole army’s food!"
"Relax. I already pay for it out of my own pocket. You don’t have to worry about paying it at all."
