Chapter 739: A Normal Day for Once
"Morning, Miss Houqin! You’re so early today."
"Morning."
As Houqin walked past the security guards and into the hallways, she took a right turn to the break room instead of going straight to her office right away.
"M-Morning General!"
"Morning... You new here?" Houqin curiously asked as she noticed the unfamiliar-looking man standing next to the coffee machine.
"Y-Yes, I-I just got hired here."
"I see. Nice to meet you. Please excuse me, I need to get my cup of coffee."
The worker quickly walked to the side, letting Houqin fill up her mug from the cabinet as two female logistic workers soon walked in.
"Morning, Miss Houqin."
"Morning."
Just as Houqin finished filling up her mug and headed out the door, she stopped beside the open door in the hallway.
"You called Houqin General? Are you out of your mind?" One of the female logistics workers questioned.
"S-She’s a general, no? What’s wrong with me calling her that?" The new worker questioned back.
"It’s a common etiquette... Do you call Mr.Chen the Governor, or do you call him Commander when you see him?"
The second female worker questioned him. Her face looked increasingly annoyed as she lectured the young worker.
"Is there really that big of a difference?"
"If you really want to stand out, go for it. But I’m just telling you that she had told everyone to address her without using the word General."
"Okay..."
Leaving the hallway and heading back to her own office, Houqin was a little taken aback as she sat down in her seat.
"When did I tell everyone to call me Miss Houqin?"
As Houqin pondered deeply, she could vividly remember how she once told the security guard to avoid addressing her as General.
The only reason behind it was due to the fact that none of the security guards were soldiers.
They were policemen. In other words, hired private security that had extrajudicial powers around just the logistics building.
"It does sound a little weird... Do I really want to be called General Lin? Or General Houqin?"
After realizing how bad it sounded, Houqin shook her head a little before returning her attention to the work she hadn’t finished yesterday.
"Check-up warehouse 9... Recounting missing equipment for Colonel Li Miao... Allocation for next month’s spending budget plan..."
Reading through all the work she had left unfinished, she let out a small sigh before turning on her computer to start her day.
---
"Hey Houqin, what’s up with the grumpy face? You still worried about things from yesterday?"
As Xiaoyun sits right across from her desk, she only glances at him for a second before resuming typing on her computer.
"Just catching up with everything that I was supposed to finish yesterday before the weekend arrives."
"The weekend? Oh, almost forgot today is Thursday... I mean, you can just let someone else do it for you instead."
"They already do. I’m just calculating and inputting the record they had given into the monthly database."
Seeing the pile of paper that looked almost just as tall as Yuqi’s desk a few weeks ago, Xiaoyun didn’t dare to give any more suggestions.
The last thing he wanted was to get the same backlash treatment he had gotten from Yuqi’s office to Houqin’s office.
"If you say so..."
"Commander, I almost forgot to ask this. I heard on the news that you’re going to change the department to a cabinet by the end of the month?"
"Yep. Right as August ends, you’ll be the new Secretary of Defense. It’s just a name change, though, you don’t have any actual role change."
"Secretary?"
As Houqin’s face suddenly started blushing, Xiaoyun quickly realized he had used the word secretary to portray her job.
"It’s not that kind of Secretary. I just didn’t want to use the word minister. It just sounds a little overkill when we’re only in a single province."
"I understand."
Seeing her mostly returning to normal, Xiaoyun decided to change the topic as he sat up in his chair.
"Ahem, are there any s from the front line? Anything changed that I need to know of as of today?"
"Everything is on track and in progress."
The answer made Xiaoyun let out a small sigh of relief. He slowly leaned back to his chair once again as he started to look a little sleepy.
"That’s the first good news I’ve heard all week. No, month... Feel like this whole month has gone by so slowly."
"Only six days left," Houqin murmured as she suddenly stopped typing on her computer before looking over to him.
"Yeah, just six days left... What are you looking at me for?"
"Commander, I just remembered something I wanted to ask since this morning... Am I the same rank as General Yezi and Yiming?"
"Obviously. Actually, you’re technically higher than them. They only have the power to command troops, you have the power to cut logistics and direct them.
But I’m too lazy to come up with a military rank above the two of them. So you’re indeed General... Houqin."
"Thank you for answering my question."
"No problem... Ahem, Houqin, did you forget something?"
"Hm?"
"You don’t have to call me commander anymore. You can just call me by my name... if you want, of course."
Houqin’s face started to blush once again, but she quickly shook it off as her usual serious face returned.
"I think I’m going to keep calling you Commander for now. At least while we’re in the office."
"Fine with me."
As Xiaoyun watches her work on her laptop, he couldn’t help but notice bits of frustration began to appear every time she typed on her keyboard.
"Do you need me to help with anything? Or else I’m going to the administrative office now."
"You can go. I don’t have anything else to for today—"
Before Houqin could finish talking, Xiaoyun had already gotten out of his seat and headed out into the hallway.
---
"Whew... Angry women are scary."
Entering the car, Xiaoyun quickly inserted his key and started driving towards Guangzhou’s administrative building.
After driving for a few minutes, he soon arrived at the parking lot. Just as he took out his key, his phone suddenly started ringing.
"Pinli, what’s wrong?"
"Xiaoyun, are you free right now?"
"Um, I’m pretty free. Is it urgent or something?"
"It’s nothing urgent. My dad wants to talk to you." Pinli answered as his voice sounded a little nervous.
"Mister Wu Min? Sure, I can meet him. Just give me a location, and I’ll drive there."
"Okay, it’s at this restaurant..."
As Xiaoyun hung up the phone, he quickly reinserted his key before driving out of the city center.
After several twists and turns, he finally arrived at the address of the restaurant that Pinli had given him.
It was a familiar-looking restaurant. Standing right at the door, he finally realized why it looked so familiar.
He had gone to this exact restaurant back in April. The same place he had drinks with all of his officers after the parade.
"Xiaoyun!"
Seeing Pinli and Wu Min already sitting on one of the tables, Xiaoyun didn’t wait any longer as he entered past the glass door.
"Welcome—O-Oh my god, a-are you the r-real govenor?" One of the restaurant waiters nervously asked.
"Maybe."
As Xiaoyun headed towards their table, both of them got up from their seat at the same time before signalling him to follow them.
"Where are we going?" Xiaoyun curiously asked.
"To a more private room, Mr.Governor."
Going past all the different tables, the three of them soon arrive at a small private room, just big enough for a single table of four.
"Boss, how should we serve you today?"
A much calmer waiter asked as she walked into the room, setting up the tables as Pinli continued to look a little nervous next to his father.
"Just tea is fine. Unless the governor wants to have lunch here?"
"That would be nice. I’m actually kind of hungry right now... Don’t push it, Mister Wu Min, I’ll pay for this." Xiaoyun added.
The waiter only smiled as she looked over to Wu Min, who gave her a silent nod as she quickly headed out to get tea.
"Now, Mister Wu Min, let’s get straight to business. What do you want to meet me for? Is there something I can help you with?"
Wu Min didn’t answer Xiaoyun’s question right away as he waited for the waiter to come back with the teapot.
After she poured the two of them a cup of tea, Wu Min finally spoke up as the waiter closed the door to the room.
"Mr.Governor, I do have a request for you. It’s a big offer that has the potential to net you an entire province for free."
"For free? No need to joke around. I’m old enough to know praying for a harvest without sowing will never work."
"Do I look like I’m joking, Mr.Governor?"
