Chapter 23: Chapter 22: I Will Wait for You
Ryzel asked Layton Lewis to eat already, but Layton insisted on eating only after he tried every dish. So, Ryzel tried every dish on the table for Layton to be assured and start eating.
In the current interstellar era, there are various types of food from different planets, but the guides, who have relatively low-level physiques, cannot eat the majority of them.
With a level A to level SSS physique, sentinels can destroy some zergs with just their strength alone.
They are also immune to diseases and viruses, allowing them to travel without fear of contracting an infection. So, of course, they can also eat anything, even if it’s poisonous.
With a level C to level B physique, common people are already considered strong as they can already carry five hundred kilograms (500 kg). They can also eat almost everything, as long as it’s not poisonous.
With a level F to level D physique, guides couldn’t even scratch the most common aircraft that ordinary people can destroy. They are also susceptible to ordinary colds and other ailments. That is why they cannot eat just anything, especially if they have food sensitivities.
When guides consume foods that they can’t eat, they will have a lot of problems. Some would even die just because they consumed foods they couldn’t tolerate.
The food for guides was regularly tested and cleaned for any bacterial infections or disease-causing agents.
That is why Ryzel can eat everything he wants safely, whereas other guides are still unable to tolerate particular dishes despite extensive sanitary procedures.
Seeing him try different dishes without any problems, Layton Lewis also started eating.
Ryzel was soon full after just eating a few more bites after tasting every dish, so he just watched Layton eat everything on the table.
He was quite envious of the sentinels, who could eat more delicious meals than them.
Sentinels used up more energy to maintain their bodies, and with their high-level physique, they needed more energy. That’s why they ate five times more than the guides.
Noticing his envious eyes, Layton Lewis asked, "Do you want to eat more? We can request a take-home."
"No need; I already tasted the dishes; I was just envious that you sentinels can eat more than us."
Layton Lewis chuckled.
"Well, I can’t do anything about that; it’s really inherent, depending on our physiques.
If you want to eat more, raise your physique to level D, then at least you can eat twice as much as what you are eating now," Layton Lewis suggested.
"I know, I’ll definitely improve my physique," Ryzel stated.
He watched and waited for Layton Lewis to finish eating everything on their table before asking a question he was eager to ask.
"General Layton, why did you want to marry me?"
Ryzel has long been curious as to why General Layton Lewis went to him for a match test and then married him.
He saw General Layton in his younger self practicing with his father a lot when he was younger.
He also often watched them train because he also wanted to be a sentinel when he was young.
Seeing how powerful they were when they were training, he also wanted to be like them.
When General Layton was still young, he was already as powerful as his father, as they often sparred with each other, and the winner would be General Layton. His father was just teaching him about his experiences.
His mother often visited the army to send stabilizing potions, and he stayed in the army as long as his father allowed it.
He still remembered that General Layton once helped him answer his homework and often told him stories when he was bored while his father was in a meeting.
He remembered that, after a year, General Layton was transferred to a different army. He also didn’t see General Layton afterwards.
He only saw General Layton Lewis on the news until he saw him today.
That’s why he was puzzled as to why General Layton would initiate a match test with him.
He understood that, given General Layton Lewis’ status and popularity, if he needed a guide, a large number of guides would flock to him.
"Surely there are plenty of guides who want to be your partners, right?" Ryzel continued asking.
"Yes, a lot of guides indeed wanted me to be their partner. My parents even secretly matched me with a lot of guides using my records from the army, but all the match test results don’t even reach fifteen percent."
"Is that why you wanted to marry me because of our high matching rate?"
"Yes, the second reason why I want to marry you is because of our high matching rate." Layton Lewis didn’t deny it.
Ryzel was also not offended by Layton’s answer; instead, he appreciated the honest answer.
If they don’t have anyone else, sentinels and guides will most likely marry the person who is most compatible with them; if he had additional options, he would also do the same.
So honestly, answering it without pretentiousness is much appreciated.
"You said that having a high matching rate is the second reason you’re going to marry me; then what is the first reason?"
"The first reason is, of course, because I wanted to be with you for a lifetime," Layton Lewis said seriously while looking directly at Ryzel.
Ryzel can’t understand the look in Layton’s eyes, but he can’t help but look away because of the intensity of his gaze.
He knew that Layton was serious. He really wanted to be with him for a lifetime.
"I’m not sure what you’re expecting from me, but since I married you, even if it’s out of necessity, I will do my best as your partner. But I don’t know if I can ever respond with the same degree to the feelings you have for me."
"It’s okay. As I said a while ago, I will wait for you. Even if I wait for a lifetime."
