Chapter 42: Chapter 41: Receiving Gifts
"Thank you! Please say thanks to those who prepared gifts for me. Should I open it now?" Ryzel asked.
"Of course, you can but I suggest you put them aside first, you can open them later on, especially my gift," Lyre said while smiling mischievously.
Looking at Lyre’s mischievous smile, Ryzel felt that it wouldn’t be good for him to open his gifts now. In his past birthdays Lyre has always given him something he needed so he always opened his gifts as soon as he received them.
Looking at Lyre’s expression, Ryzel decided not to open the gift any longer. Lyre always had that expression if he did something for fun so it’s better to open his gifts later when he is alone.
He also received a lot of good and bad surprises from Lyre so it would be good not to open it at this time seeing Lyre’s smile.
Lyre can really be troublesome friend sometimes so as he already said that it would be best to open it when he was alone then it is better to listen to it.
"Okay, I’ll open them later," Ryzel said. He then put all the bags Lyre was carrying at the side of the living room.
"Oh, you brought gifts, I almost forgot to bring out the gifts I have to give. Thanks for reminding me," Mervin said.
Mervin brought out something from his space bracelet.
"I didn’t have time to prepare, so I could only grab what I could. Please don’t despise it, I would bring a better gift on your wedding day," Mervin said while handing a box to Ryzel.
"Of course I won’t despise anything you gave," Ryzel said and accepted the box.
It is the thought that counts. He doesn’t need to receive valuable gifts. Even if Mervin brought something that can’t be used or just anything. Ryzel would still be thankful because Mervin still thought of giving a gift.
"Huh, aren’t these gold braids!!" Ryzel exclaimed after opening the box given by Mervin.
"Yes, I have those in our house. I heard you are into potion making so I thought giving you a rare ingredient for your potion is a better gift to give. I hope you like it," Mervin said with a smile.
"Of course I like it! Are you sure you are giving these to me?" Ryzel said with a smile but also with a hesitant tone.
"Yes of course you can have it," Mervin said with a smile.
"Thank you very much!" Ryzel said while smiling broadly.
"With this I can finally do the research I was planning to do ever since."
Gold braids are a rare ingredient for potion making. You can’t even buy it even if you have a lot of money. They can only be found on a few planets and their numbers are very limited. Those who have gold braids won’t sell it to others as it is a lifesaving plant even if it wasn’t used for a potion.
The plant is called gold braids because the plant’s roots which are used as a medicine are golden in color and they look like hair braids. Taking just a small amount of it can help alleviate a person who was already in a mania. It can also help ordinary people strengthen their physiques. That’s why those who have gold braids won’t sell it for money.
Ryzel had always wanted to do one particular research but he can’t proceed because one of the most important components should be gold braids.
However, since he doesn’t have any resources he can’t get his hands on gold braids.
After his current research to be submitted for the next term he can start his research with the gold braids as long as his instructors in the Capitals Star Academy don’t add anything more to what he is studying.
Ryzel started thinking of his research progress and what else he needed for his future research.
"Oh no, Mr. Mervin why do you give it right now? Giving Ry a rare herb at this time isn’t really good. Look at him, he was surely already thinking of what to do with the gold braids you gave him." Lyre explained.
"Is he always like this?" Mervin asked.
"Ry had always liked potions and the pharmaceutical department has always been very supportive to everyone who has talents, Ry was of course tested and earned the spots himself. Normally she won’t react like that, but you gave gold braids a very rare ingredient so of course she would be delighted and go out of focus," Lye explained.
"What? Then how long will he stay like that?" Mervin asked again while pointing at Ryzel who was standing in a daze while muttering something.

Ryzel was still contemplating his research and doesn’t know what the others are talking about. He only snapped out of his daze when the thing he was holding was suddenly gone.
"Huh," Ryzel was a bit startled when he looked at Layton Lewis who was suddenly in front of him. He saw the box of gold braids held in Layton Lewis’ box.
"General Layton, what are you doing? Please give those back to me," Ryzel asked while still looking at the gold braids in Layton Lewis’ hand.
"Then, what are you going to do after getting them?" Lewis asked calmly.
"Of course I’m going to use my time doing my research later on," Ryzel admitted.
"Research? Your research room has just been decided and you haven’t started talking to those workers before. Also I won’t give these gold braids to you for the time being. I can give it to you until a month later," Layton Lewis said while putting the box inside his space bracelet.
"Why can’t you give it back to me? Why give it after a month?"
"Ryzel, what do you plan to do after Mervin and Lyre go home?"
"Of course I’ll try preparing my research and potion," Ryzel immediately answered.
"See, you are very focused on your research. That’s why I won’t be giving you the gold braids until later," Layton Lewis said, looking at Ryzel intently.
"Okay just be sure to give it to me later."
"Of course."
Ryzel knew that Layton Lewis took the gold braids because he could be invested in his research once he got his hands on the gold braids. Layton Lewis seemed to know his habits very well.
Once he got his hands on the gold braids he would surely get all the ingredients he needed and proceed with his experiments without even minding what was happening in his surroundings which is bad for the current him.
He needed to at least take care of everything about their marriage and other follow up matters before he could do whatever he wanted with his research. He just married Layton Lewis so he was sure he needed to do some things before he could do his research freely.
Ryzel would of course do his duty as Layton Lewis’ partner. He wouldn’t just leave it be because he was still thankful that he doesn’t need to be deported and Layton Lewis will also handle the case of his inheritance.
Now that he was married he would of course do all his duties as a matter of course. He wouldn’t run from any of them. Ryzel wasn’t the type of person to just get the benefits and refuse to take hold of the responsibilities tied with it. He would do his best to do all the things he needed before he could focus on his research. As long as he could do his research afterwards he could still do his duties properly.
As long as Layton Lewis continued to do his duties as his partner properly. He would also do his best to do what he is required to do. Him doing his duties as best as he could was all dependent on the attitude of Layton Lewis. If Layton Lewis continued to treat him well then of course he will also do his best.
He would of course repay those who treat him well. He is not an idiot to do his duties to the best of his abilities if he isn’t treated properly. All his future actions regarding his duties will all be depending on how he was treated.
Now that Layton Lewis’ was treating him well of course he would do his duties well. So even if he can’t get a hold of the gold braids right away, he doesn’t have too many qualms about it.
"As for you my friend Lewis I don’t think I need to give you a gift, right? I already did my very best to help you get a wife. That’s already my gift for you," Mervin said while smiling at Layton Lewis.
"I didn’t even ask you for a gift. What you did is indeed enough to be considered as a gift," Layton Lewis said.
