Chapter 43: Chapter 42: Getting Along with Lyre and Mervin
"I didn’t even ask you for a gift. What you did is indeed enough to be considered as a gift," Layton Lewis said.
"It is good that you understand. You should be very grateful to me."
"What else do you want? I already said my thanks. Besides you said it yourself it is considered as a gift."
"Oh, I just want to ask for an additional break."
"You already have five days of break so that is enough," Layton Lewis said in a very serious tone.
"Huh? What are you both talking about? Sir Mervin, how did you help general Lewis?" Lyre asked as he looked at General Layton Lewis and Mervin alternately in a confused manner.
Ryzel didn’t bother asking about it but of course he was alo curious so he was also waiting for Mervin’s answer.
"Well, it is actually very simple but the most important step. As his adjutant I’m the one who informed him about Ryzel being single," Mervin said with a smile.
"I see but how did Sir Mervin know about it?" Lyre asked.
Ryzel also wanted to ask what Lyre asked because the main army of General Layton was clearly not in the capital. How did his situation even reach their ears?
He doesn’t think he was important enough for his gossip to even reach the military which is not even in the capital. If he was a famous celebrity he could still understand but he was just a student in the Capital Star Academy. Even though he was always at the top of their grade he wasn’t narcissistic enough to claim that those leading the entire army would know him.
"Your brother is actually responsible for it," Mervin said while looking at Lyre.
"Huh? How is my brother related to it?" Lyre replied while tilting his head on the side.
"After we finished with our mission he had a spar with Dwight Barlowe. He beat up Dwight so badly that we are alarmed with his breach of discipline. Luke never did anything that would break military discipline so I needed to investigate the cause of his abnormal behavior. Then I found out that it was because of what Dwight did to Ryzel."
"I did ask my brother to beat up that bast*rd Dwight for Ry but he didn’t say anything when he got home so I assume he didn’t do that. Oops-" Ryzel stopped what he was saying and awkwardly smiled while looking at Layton Lewis and Mervin.
Ryzel wanted to facepalm about how easy it is for Lyre to cause trouble and even reveal it because of his tongue.
"Ohh, so it is you who instructed Luke to beat up Dwight?" Mervin looked at Lyre with a teasing smile.
"What are you talking about Sir Mervin? I’m sure my brother would have done the same even if I didn’t say anything because he always cherished Ry as one of his younger brothers. And Dwight really does need to receive a beating. I even think it is not enough," Lyre said while grinning without even a remorse of instigating his brother to commit a mistake.
Ryzel could indeed agree that Luke indeed treats him as his younger brother just like how he treats Lyre.
Luke must have been furious knowing that his marriage was canceled and he might be deported to one of the fringe stars. As an active soldier Luke must have known how difficult the situation of guides who were deported to the fringe stars.
"I’m sorry for causing you trouble in the military because of my situation," Ryzel immediately apologized to Layton Lewis and Mervin.
He also knew that his circumstances would reach the Army of General Layton because Luke and Dwight were part of the army but he didn’t think that Luke would really be so angry that he even broke military discipline.
"You don’t need to apologize for it. Dwight and Luke were the people who caused trouble in the military so even if you are the cause of it you are not at fault. Besides, Luke was already punished for it," Mervin explained.
"My brother was punished? What is his punishment?" Lyre asked with a little bit of guilt in his tone.
Ryzel knew that Lyre must have felt a little bit guilty knowing that his brother was punished because it is indeed him who suggested the idea first.
"No need to be worried about it. Luke was only fined for two months of his salary because his actions had a clear reason," Mervin explained.
"Wooh, What a relief!" Lyre said with a bright smile.
Ryzel was also relieved knowing that Luke was only fined. With the wealth of Lyre’s family two months of salary is really nothing to be concerned about. He knew that the military had a lot of difficult punishments especially for sentinels.
Sentinels are stronger than ordinary people especially if their level is very high so their punishment is also heavier compared to ordinary people.
"Then what about that bast*rd Dwight? Did he also receive a punishment? He is the one who is actually the one who caused the problem," Lyre asked.
"No, he did not receive any punishment because what we dealt with was only the issue of their sparring that turned into a one-sided beating. Although I agree that Dwight did indeed do something very wrong, he can’t be punished with the current issue," Mervin explained.
"What? That’s so disappointing. He is actually the one who did something wrong but he can’t be punished," Lyre muttered.
Lyre said it in a very low voice but Ryzel knew that both the sentinel with them still heard it because of their senses.
Ryzel was actually disappointed also because his bast*rd ex wasn’t punished. He wanted Dwight to be punished to at least suffer a little because of what he had done. Well even if he isn’t punished by others he would punish him himself.
"Oh don’t be too disappointed because of it. Luke did a very good job when beating him up," Mervin said mischievously while looking at Lyre and Ryzel.
"Really?" Lyre asked.
"Of course it’s true. If it isn’t because Luke beat him up severely it won’t even be ed and just be counted as a regular spar."
"That’s good! It’s a pity he wasn’t demoted. Then he wouldn’t be able to stay at General Lewis’ airship and be a bother later on," Lyre said while looking at Ryzel.
"Why would he even be a bother to me when we won’t even be seeing each other?" Ryzel asked.
"Huh?! Ryzel, don’t tell me you forgot the fact that as a guide you need to be where your sentinel is."
"Of course I remember but I am sure I would be staying inside the laboratory of the airship so I won’t even be bothered," Ryzel said.
Ryzel knew that Lyre was just worried about her, that’s why he was asking about it. However for Ryzel, it doesn’t really matter to him whether Dwight was in the same ship as him.
He knew that even if he was in an airship the place he would be at would undoubtedly be at the airships laboratory or in his own room. The chances of meeting Dwight is very minimal.
Besides, he is a person that can set aside his personal matters and deal with others professionally. It is the basics in a workplace or actually in different situations in life.
Ryzel was sure that he could still keep his mind sane even if Dwight was in front of him. He was not the type of person who would show his emotional side to others so he was sure he could still deal with Dwight professionally.
"Don’t worry about Dwight Barlowe any longer. The sixth army requested for his transfer here in the capital. I already agreed with it. So you don’t need to think more about it," Layton Lewis said while looking at Ryzel.
"I see," Ryzel said and nodded without saying anything else.
The sixth army is where the Hanes family belongs. It wouldn’t be surprising for their family to ask for Dwight to work for them as the sentinel that they have supported since his awakening.
The Hanes family definitely wanted Dwight Barlowe to repay them for their so-called help.
Ryzel knew that the Hanes family was dissatisfied with Dwight Barlow when he applied to join the army of General Layton Lewis.
They only agreed to it because it is easier to be promoted while working in the frontlines because the sixth army was assigned to the capital.
Now that Dwight would be marrying Sean they should have planned for Dwight to be transferred to the capital.
After marriage the guide is obligated to follow the sentinel wherever he was residing as the guide is responsible for their partner’s mental health.
If Sean was going to marry Dwight he would of course need to follow where Dwight is. If Dwight is still in Layton Lewis’ Army which is still assigned at the border Sean also needs to stay at the border.
