Chapter 538

Chapter 538: Chapter Three Hundred and Sixteen_1
Faint starlight fell upon Li Zijun’s face. Strands of hair on her forehead, wet with droplets, trickled down to her collarbone.
Her wet clothes clung to her body, making her exquisite, well-defined figure almost as visible as if she were half-bare. With her jade-like arms gently bent, her captivating allure was fully revealed.
With gentle hands, she gathered her soaked hair behind her head. The water drenched her robe, outlining her perfect figure. She felt somewhat bashful looking at Ji Nanjue.
Her clothes, not yet fully shed, clung to her body, faintly translucent, revealing the color of her skin underneath. Her usually loose-fitting robe hadn’t revealed much, but now, the true splendor beneath was evident.
Ji Nanjue watched her with obvious astonishment, then a playful smile touched her lips as she said, "Sure enough, master and disciple—even your lying is cast from the same mold..."
"Forget it. If you want to call me sister, then do so. ’Mistress,’ on the other hand, sounds oddly old-fashioned."
...
Her jade-like legs, hidden beneath the water, gently stirred the surface, creating a few ripples.
Then, bracing herself with her jade-like arms, she rose, completely naked. The water reached just past the tops of her thighs, revealing a slender, flat waist without a hint of excess flesh.
"Take off your clothes. You can’t very well bathe with them on, can you?"
This robe had been with Li Zijun for who knows how long throughout their journey, though it bore no stains.
Feeling rather shy, Li Zijun slipped off her dress, placed it on the bank, and then immediately submerged herself in the pool, hiding herself completely.
Ji Nanjue didn’t laugh at her and sat down beside her.
The air was somewhat heavy; the period just before rain always felt particularly restless.
Her small hands gently played with the water, letting it splash down, before she suddenly asked, "You’ve only seen him a few times. How can you be so sure of your feelings?"
"At your age, it’s normal to admire someone, but your words and actions don’t suggest you’re an impulsive person."
"I’m very curious. Can you share your thoughts with me?"
She paused, feeling her question was indeed a bit pointed. Ji Nanjue then added with a smile, "Of course, it’s okay if you don’t want to say..."
As she spoke, her eyes were on Li Zijun.
"Thoughts, huh?" Li Zijun gently pursed her lips, not looking at Ji Nanjue, but softly murmured.
Gazing at the somewhat murky pool water, she pondered for a moment before saying softly, "Does liking someone really require a reason?"
"Isn’t it more like, at a certain moment, something stirs your heart so deeply that, before you even realize it, that person has found a place within you?"
"Perhaps it’s just a glance, or a particular action."
Ji Nanjue was taken aback. Li Zijun’s voice, though gentle, was tinged with a sadness that, for some reason, conveyed a deep sense of gloom.
Then Ji Nanjue pulled Li Zijun tightly into her embrace, her cheek against hers. "Love at first sight?"
Previously, Ji Nanjue might have scoffed at the term "love at first sight," dismissing it as nonsense. Two people falling for each other after just one look? That could only be lust for beauty, she would have thought. Now, however, her heart was gradually coming to accept the term. Her life’s path and Su Bei’s had often intertwined unintentionally. After they had faced death together and returned from its brink, the emotional bond forged through shared hardship was naturally profound. Perhaps even before that night, she had already etched that person into her heart, only she hadn’t acknowledged it in her long-closed heart.
"That’s true enough," Ji Nanjue murmured, mostly to herself.
Li Zijun gave a bitter smile, realizing Ji Nanjue had misunderstood her.
Her feelings for Su Bei, how could they be as light and casual as Ji Nanjue implied? It had taken nearly a century of shared experiences and understanding to be certain of her feelings.
"Sister Nan Ji, Zi Jun is feeling a bit cold..." Li Zijun hugged her arms lightly, blinking her eyes at Ji Nanjue.
"Let’s go back," Li Zijun added.
Ji Nanjue smiled warmly at her, her feelings somewhat complex, and replied, "You go on. Sh... Sister will stay by herself for a while."
Ultimately, she was a woman. Even though she knew there would never be a day when her relationship with Su Bei could be public, she still felt a sense of rejection towards any woman who might divert even a fraction of his tenderness from her. Moreover, this woman was his disciple... From any perspective, emotional or logical, it felt deeply improper. A bizarre thought emerged in Ji Nanjue’s mind: his disciple, her master... with herself in between? What a complex relationship... a three-generation household, right? It’s all Su Dudu’s fault. There’s no right or wrong in love. If one had to find fault, the root of it all lay with that fickle scoundrel. If it weren’t for his indiscriminate affections, how could he have incurred so many debts of the heart? He, on the other hand, certainly had his fun...
Li Zijun waved her hand in front of Ji Nanjue’s face a few times. When Ji Nanjue snapped out of her daze, she playfully pinched Li Zijun’s delicate nose and said with a smile, "You’ve been wearing that dress for too long. If you don’t mind, wear this one of mine for now..."
...
She gestured to the white gauze dress on the bank.
Li Zijun blinked her eyes, then gave Ji Nanjue a sweet smile.
With a soft rustle, she put on the dress and began walking toward the Daoist Temple.
As Ji Nanjue watched Li Zijun’s retreating figure, she sighed softly.
