Chapter 539: Chapter Three Hundred and Sixteen_2
If only I really were a man...
The light of the pile of firewood within the Daoist Temple was dim and subdued.
As Su Bei gently wiped the two swords inside the Sword Box, feeling a completely new flow of qi in his body traveling through all his bones, he murmured to himself,
Swords need nurturing.
To him, the Qingping Sword had already become second nature, but when it came to the Missing Departure, there was still quite a difference in control.
All myriad techniques under heaven, despite their countless variations, share the same fundamental principle. Since ancient times, countless cultivators have sought the same thing: the fabled immortality that spares one from death.
Only those cultivators who have achieved a lesser form of immortality truly deserve the title of "Immortal," having taken their initial steps towards Achieving Dao. As far as Sword Cultivators are concerned, the sword nurtures the person, and the person nurtures the sword. Although there isn’t such a thing as a literal fusion of man and sword, one who wishes to reach the pinnacle of cultivation must, at the very least, nurture a Sword Spirit.
A Sword Spirit of their own.
Su Bei slowly closed his eyes, his Dantian Knowledge Sea fully opened, his soul seeping out and melding with the universe around him, and he saw himself sitting cross-legged.
His soul wound around the Missing Departure once, then returned to his body.
Upon touching the sword once more, he could feel it had become a bit more intimate than before.
Seeing this, Su Bei nodded in satisfaction. He then took the Longsword, skewered a piece of pork with it, and began roasting it over the fire. "The sword has been well-nourished," he commented.
Missing Departure: "..."
Flower Bright Moon was dim, shrouded in a light mist.
Footsteps approached gently from behind Su Bei, and within the flickering firelight, a familiar wisp of white gauze could be seen.
Without the moon in the sky, everything around was somewhat dim.
The corners of Su Bei’s mouth curved into a smile. Without even looking, he grasped the woman by the waist and held her in his embrace, laughing, "Why did Ji Baoer come back alone?"
"Tell me! Where did you leave Zi Jun?"
"..."
As he spoke, his advances escalated, and her breathing quickened.
Pinned beneath him, he traced the shell of her ear, his touch following the curves of her body.
Li Zijun’s eyes were wide with shock, her mind a blank slate as Su Bei pulled her towards him without resistance.
Feeling his skilled hands caressing her body, she was unable to think for a moment.
She had just bathed, and her body still carried a fragrance, creating an amorous atmosphere within the Daoist Temple.
Her complexion gradually turned rosy, though it was unclear whether it was due to the inappropriate actions or because of his large hand gripping her wrist.
Su Bei frowned slightly, beginning to sense that something was amiss.
Ji Baoer’s body should have felt more ample, and she certainly wouldn’t have this inexperienced feel; he could even sense the woman beneath him trembling.
"Mas... Master."
Li Zijun finally snapped out of her shock, her small hands somewhat frantically pushing at Su Bei, nervously saying, "I am not Sister Nan Ji... I am Zi Jun..."
"..."
Her words carried a hint of aggrievement as she turned her head to the side, biting her lip.
Su Bei was instantly stunned, leaning over and staring blankly at the woman before him.
What beastly act had he just committed?
The atmosphere grew awkward. Su Bei wanted to comfort her by patting her head, but he feared the gesture might be misunderstood. His hand froze in midair as he swallowed hard, "Apprentice, your master didn’t know it was you..."
"You are wearing your master’s wife’s clothes, and the firelight is dim..."
Li Zijun mumbled a low acknowledgment, her facial expression unclear.
"Master... could you please get off first."
"..."
Su Bei gave her an awkward smile, then gently got up, touched his nose, and after thinking for a moment, said, "Your master really didn’t know..."
As he spoke, he grabbed her snow-white wrist, trying to pull her to her feet.
The firelight flickered, casting its glow on the two individuals, each lost in their own thoughts.
For some reason, as Su Bei looked upon Li Zijun’s jade-like, lustrous face, a rush of impulse welled up in his heart. His own heart began to race.
Compared to Nan Ji, his actions just now had been undeniably bold. The way Li Zijun felt under his touch, however, was vastly different.
Yet that gentle but elusive distance only fueled a peculiar feeling in Su Bei.
Seemingly forgetting the previous awkwardness, Su Bei nonetheless raised his hand, extending two fingers tentatively towards Li Zijun’s face.
He hesitated for a moment, but finally, his fingers touched her smooth, jade-like cheek.
Li Zijun’s delicate body shuddered slightly, her eyes as bright as stars. She created a slight gap in her struggle but, this time, did not react fiercely. Instead, she closed her eyes, allowing Su Bei to gently stroke her beautiful face with two fingers.
Gentle as jade.
All of a sudden, Su Bei saw pearlescent teardrops falling from the corner of Li Zijun’s eyes, gliding down her snow-white cheeks.
The flickering firelight illuminated two streaks of tears.
Su Bei’s hand paused, then gently slid to Li Zijun’s tender chin, lifting it so he could gaze into her stunning face.
With two fingers, he gently wiped away her tears and said softly, "I’m sorry. As your master..."
Li Zijun’s eyes locked onto Su Bei, brimming with tears.
She didn’t even know why she was crying.
Was it because of his offense?
Or because the relationship between them was doomed to have no future?
Upon seeing the momentary daze in his eyes, Li Zijun didn’t know what kind of expression to make.
Was it helplessness?
Li Zijun gently lifted her head, a smile touching her lips as she hid the last tear in the depths of her eyes. "Flowers in the mirror, the moon in the water," she murmured. "Disciple does not blame Master."
"This dress was given by Sister Nan Ji. Master mistook me for someone else because of it."
"..."
Su Bei smiled awkwardly at her, suppressing the horrifying thoughts that had surged within him.
Why were all the disciples he took on so strange? Each one seemed as if they had been with him for ages, and there always felt like there was an indefinable emotion between them.
Just then, the door opened.
Ji Nanjue, dressed in different clothes, entered, then looked around with a perplexed expression.
She sat down beside Su Bei, barefoot, wiping the still-damp droplets of water from her skin.
A flicker of confusion crossed her eyes.
Normally, he would have pounced on me. Why is he so calm today?
What happened between them while I was away? The atmosphere is so odd.
"Husband, what’s wrong? You seem distracted?"
Su Bei smiled at her, then held Ji Nanjue in his arms.
Within Su Bei’s embrace, Ji Nanjue sensed a whirlwind of emotions. She tilted her head and kissed him on the lips.
She had thought a great deal just now. She knew the path ahead was long and arduous. Life was unfeeling, and it would make their journey together exceptionally difficult. However, being able to enjoy this moment of peace brought a sense of contentment to her heart.
Her mentality began to shift a little.
—Not seeking to be together day and night, but cherishing having once possessed.
"It’s nothing."
"It’s late; we should sleep..."
Su Bei stroked her hair.
Ji Nanjue stood up and took the distracted Li Zijun by the hand. She examined her own dress on Zi Jun and nodded, "Zi Jun looks quite good in this dress..."
Li Zijun’s face flushed red.
Then Ji Nanjue glanced at Su Bei and said, feigning coldness, "As punishment, you will sleep outside tonight. I’ll sleep with Zi Jun."
"How about that, Zi Jun?" She winked at Li Zijun.
Li Zijun was stunned for a moment. She looked up at Su Bei, then at Ji Nanjue beside her, and said with some reluctance, "That doesn’t seem right... It looks like it’s going to rain outside."
Su Bei knew Nan Ji was giving him an out; she must have sensed the earlier awkwardness. Warmth spread through his heart as he looked at Ji Nanjue. "I’ll just go outside..."
At that moment, a faint sound of footsteps came from not far away.
The sudden noise made everyone’s eyebrows furrow at once, with Su Bei expressing doubt, "Who could be passing by this late at night?"
"..."
