Chapter 16

Chapter 16: Chapter 16 - Raid (1)
They sat on the ground, staying low from the goblins. Dante drew a circle on the ground.
"This is a village. There are two layers from what I gathered about the village the past week. The outer layer is stationed for guards and low level pets. They don’t let any monsters come near them."
Although their mana is quite low. They make up with numbers. I believe they have around 30 or 40 goblins." Dante said.
He pointed at Thomas and made a smile. "That will be your job. Lure all the guards and defeat them. Because of your abilities, I believe head on in battle will be where you shine."
Thomas nodded, grinning a large smile. "Got it."
Dante looked back at his crude drawing and thought for a moment. He took a glance at Julius and saw his friend’s eyes.
Dante smiled to himself. ’It seems that Julius is still feeling down from the troll. I should boost his confidence.’
"Julius. You and I will be directly teleported into the village. There are about 15 normal goblins inside the village." Dante said seriously.
Julius nodded with a determined expression.
"And I want you to fight the boss. The boss’s mana level surpassed the troll. What do you think?" Dante smiled.
Julius was taken back by his friend’s suggestion. "Wait. Wait. I don’t think my hits are strong enough to take on the boss."
Dante looked at his friend in silence.
Julius scratched his neck, thinking deeply. The first thing on his mind was that he was suited for that. Then, he shook his head.
’I don’t want to be left behind.’
Julius looked up from the ground and glanced at Dante. He slowly nodded. "Okay. I will face the boss. What about the monsters around him?"
Dante slapped his chest and said, "You don’t need to worry about that. I will give you my support."
Thomas laughed. "Now, I am fired up."
"Julius, teleport Thomas there." Dante said to Julius.
He turned toward his huge friend and made a fist. Thomas recognized the meaning and a fist as well.
Dante bumped his fist to his friend and said. "Gave us a huge surprise."
"I will. Hunt safe." Thomas said with his booming voice.
Julius grabbed Thomas’s shoulder and vanished.
Dante waited and started thinking about his plan. Originally, the plan was a bit different but he couldn’t help with that.
Humans were meant to adapt to the changes. As a sage, he should adapt first.
Julius appeared beside him.
"So we go in?"
Dante shook his head. "Not right now. I want Thomas to gather the guards first."
They didn’t have to wait a long time.
The ground suddenly shook. Dante’s eyes scanned Thomas and smiled.
A pillar of earth emerged from the front gate of the village. On top of the pillar was a huge man, laughing menacingly.
Thomas gathered a ball of fire mana and threw it to the gate, burning it with raging fire. After watching the gate burn, he jumped down from the pillar and landed on the ground.
He inhaled a short breath and ran away from the village. Goblins yelled out and followed him.
Dante noted that around 45 goblins and their pets followed Thomas. He even saw some strong goblins in the mix. The village boss must have ordered them to do so.
After all, Thomas showed quite a lot of strength. If he was a boss, he would be worried about getting Thomas.
"Julius." He called his friend.
Julius grabbed his shoulder. "Are you ready?"
"Kinda." Dante said, grabbing the axe tightly.
Julius nodded and used his skill.
In an instant, the world shifted. Dante found himself in midair. But due to his high alert, he managed to land safely.
His eyes adapted the change in location and scanned across the inner layer. The buildings were crudely made from mud. Though some were made from wood.
But a certain building caught his attention.
The building was two stories tall. The materials were much better than all the others. Dante’s eyes caught a huge goblin coming out the building.
The goblin was a head taller than Thomas, about 7 feet tall. The goblin wielded a spear.
Dante also noticed that all the goblins were surrounding them. ’As I thought, the boss is smart.’
The boss stepped forward.
Julius took a stance, ready to attack at any moment.
Dante also tightened his grip and stepped away from Julius. His job was to support Julius. In this situation, the only things he needed to do was kill every other goblins.
It was not like he hated the goblins. They were just getting in his way. No. They were just a stepping stone for him.
Just that.
"Julius."
"Okay."
The two charged forward, facing their respective targets.
Dante drew out his condensed mana and coated to his axe. With his axe mastery, he could make a swing fly.
The range was a bit low but it was the best when fighting against the numbers. Quickly, he beheaded three goblins.
He ignored the notification and started going to the next target. He halted his step and brought the axe near him, blocking the incoming arrows.
Dante smiled. Those kinds of sneak attacks were useless to him. He embedded his axe to the ground and aimed his arm to the watch tower nearby.
He closed his eyes for no reason and fired two mana bolts. He then tilted his head as the others goblins were now ganging on him.
He slapped away the short sword and kicked the goblins in the chest. Because of the physical difference, the goblins were easily overpowered.
But he had to move a lot as the numbers were a bit too much for him.
’Thomas should take care of them pretty easily.’ He thought, breaking one of the goblin’s arms.
He lifted up the goblin and threw it to the incoming two. He created two mana bolts and fired.
Suddenly, he stopped his attack. He quickly turned around and saw the two goblins. One tall and the other short.
Their mana were much denser than the fodder goblins.
The short goblin carried a sword and shield. The tall one was unharmed.
The short goblin dashed forward, swinging the sword.
The speed surprised Dante. Dante parried the sword strike with his axe.
’The physical power is similar to me.’ Dante thought. He wasn’t the best at physical attack, the only reason he could keep up with his two friends was because he was good at using his mana.
Even the maximum power he could use with his mana manipulation was weaker than Thomas.
Although, he hadn’t tested against Julius.
’I should try.’
The short goblin took a step back.
The tall goblin lifted up his hand.
Dante’s eyes saw the tall goblin manipulating mana strangely.
’I want to see what it does but curiosity kills the cat.’ Dante also lifted up his arm and fired a mana bolt.
The short goblin intercepted the mana bolt with his sword, slashing down.
The tall one finished creating a rune in the air and poured mana into it.
Dante felt crushing force on his entire body. He grinned his teeth and used the mana to support his body.
The short goblin didn’t miss that and immediately attacked at him.
