Chapter 31: Chapter 31 - Lich (5)
After the small exchange, their fights resumed.
Dante trusted Thomas to kill the giant knight. He couldn’t say a word to Thomas but he hoped Thomas understood his eyes.
"Julius." Dante yelled.
Julius appeared and grabbed his neck. "This is your signal? I thought it was someone cool."
"Hehe. I can’t think anymore." Dante smiled, revealing his missing tooth.
Julius swallowed his chuckles and teleported in front of the lich.
Dante arrived in front of the lich.
He stared at the lich’s green eyes, his previous smile vanished and replaced with something serious.
He thought this dungeon was created by the system. He thought that the monsters were not real. At least, they were not real to humans.
But the goblins proved him wrong. There were some intelligent monsters. During that time, Dante suppressed his emotions and killed everything.
For what? For some shelter and training. If he thought about it, what he did was a cruel thing.
He shook his head. He slowly stopped and frowned.
He realized and laughed, getting a strange look from Julius.
’So maybe this is why Nyrax can manipulate me to this extent. My mentality was unstable during that period. Even now, I am not myself.’
Dante felt something pushing him. His innate self pushed him to move farther. He wanted to rest and got a long sleep.
But he couldn’t. He needed to finish this dungeon. This shithole.
He lifted up his hands and said. "I am going to kill you, Aldryx."
"I have heard this phrase for uncountable times and yet here I am still alive."
"This is not living. This is merely running away. Running away from the truth." Dante said.
"What truth, child? The truth that humans are meant to die. Then, I can’t do that. My purpose is greater than my humanity."
"No one is talking about humanity or your purpose. I am talking about you. I know. I know that you are still running away. I can tell. Because I am also running right now." Dante smiled.
"It is strange, right. Giving advice to someone when I am the only one who needs to listen to this advice."
"I don’t understand, child. What do you see in me to say that I am running away?"
Dante scratched his head. "To be honest, nothing. But my instinct was telling me that way. At first, I thought it was because you and I are the opposite. You know, you being the lich and I am the sage."
"But after hearing your story, I have been thinking about my feelings."
Dante paused. He felt somewhat relieved that he managed to say something.
Dante looked at Aldryx and said, seriously.
"You are running from the fact that your people are dead."
Aldryx paused and suddenly let out a laugh.
"It is absurd. I know for the fact that my people are dead. I saw it in my own eyes. I saw spears raining from the sky, piercing into the hearts of my men."
Dante shook his head. "I guess, talking is still useless."
"Yes. For my body is not in my control. Slain me heroes."
Dante channeled mana into his arm and walked toward the lich. He saw a barrier trying to stop him.
He turned the mana on his hands to a purple aura. He pushed his hands to the barrier and fired a blast.
The blast landed on the lich and consumed it.
Dante nodded and turned back. "The lich is killed."
"That was fast and a bit anticlimactic."
Dante pointed at the knight and said, "Look."
Julius squinted his eyes and saw the giant knight. He saw green flame emerging from the armor, forming cracks.
"There are many unknown spells used by Aldryx. But the only important spells are his barrier skill and the necromancy spell."
Dante explained.
"The barrier was created solely using his will. Don’t ask me the details I don’t know. I think we will get this kind of skill after advancing beyond Tier 4 or 5. Where was I?"
"The necromancy."
"Oh yeah. The necromancy spell was a lie. The knights didn’t have anything to work up. No soul. Nothing. They are just armor."
"So how did the knights move?"
"It is not a necromancy spell but it is similar to it. Aldryx split his soul and used it to move the knights. That’s why their fighting style is the same. You understand what I am saying right?"
Julius nodded. "Right now, Aldryx is inside that giant knight right?"
"Yeah." He sat down and looked at Thomas.
"Go help him. I am going to sleep." Dante said, laying down.
He closed his eyes and used Heal. He felt the life energy slowly melding into his flesh.
It intertwined with his bones.
[Evolution detected.]
[Heal evolved to Regenerative Heal.]
[Regenerative Heal - Grade 2.]
Dante smiled at the notification and fell asleep. He trusted his friends. He gave his part.

Thomas’s Pov.
Why?Why?Why?
Thomas repeated. No matter how many times he punched the giant knight didn’t faze.
He even used his strongest skill, blue flame. Even that didn’t work against the knight. He crouched down and used water mana to turn the ground into mud.
He twisted his hands and pulled up. The mud around the knight’s legs grabbed and hardened.
Thomas clapped his hands and poured mana into it. At a certain point, the restrictions came and took away his mana. Because of that he couldn’t create an effective attack.
He threw the fire spear and the knight lifted up its sword to block the attack. It then crushed the earth grabbing its legs.
It then swung the sword, cleaving away the surface area.
Why? Why can’t I damage him? I need to do that. I need to. I have to.
Become strong, Thomas. You are the shield.
"No." A familiar voice sounded behind him.
Thomas turned around and saw Julius smiling. Julius pointed at his back and said.
"There is a sword coming."
Thomas noticed his carelessness and quickly blocked the attack. He poured everything into his body until the restrictions kicked in.
’I need to protect Julius.’
He tried to grab the sword but was blown away by the attack. He landed on the ground, his internal messed up from the blunt force.
Mana quickly rushed over him and gave him their blessing.
Thomas stopped up and spat out the blood.
"What are you thinking?" Julius said, sitting beside him.
"Tell me, I know you are getting too hard on yourself like you always do."
Thomas frowned and ignored him. "You are getting weird."
"Me? Weird? Yeah. I admit I am getting weird. But who won’t after getting exposed to this kind of world. I have grown, Thomas. I am no longer just Julius."
"So, you are Knight Julius?"
"I don’t know. I certainly don’t want to be a knight even if I admire them. What I do know is I am not just Julius. I don’t think you will penetrate the knight’s armor until you realize that kind of thing about yourself."
Thomas shook his head. "Nah. I will overcome this. I don’t need any of that self finding bullshit. I will overcome everything while being myself."
Julius smiled and let out a sigh. He took out the sword and said.
"Then let me help you. Oh and Dante is asleep, as should finish this as first as possible."
Thomas banged his gauntlets, sparks flying around and laughed.
"Yeah. I think he need sleep."
